At least konami is still thinking about us on some level...
-
At least it's a step in the right direction. I'd buy some of that.
I'd rather have some CV games, but I'd go for some collectibles...
-
Exciting news! I hope some of the merch makes it way to my country....
Lol at the article writing this: The-Once-Great-Publisher-That-Must-Not-Be-Named
-
Konami OST records sounds like a cool idea, especially for Silent Hill. Watch as they're mastered from the CD versions, lol.

*Still waiting to see if the Cv3 vinyl is the US or JP version*
-
Dang, would have loved to get the poster and t shirt. I missed out on this.
-
Just found out something that makes these vinyl soundtracks sound more promising (and likely not to be just CD rips): the guy behind Death Waltz, who releases a lot of remastered movie soundtracks and his Halloween III disc is supposed to be great, is the record label manager for Mondo Tees—and knowing this, I see now that Death Waltz records are now distributed and manufactured by Mondo. That basically ensures these will be high quality releases with cool original artwork.
-
Or you can just buy the 1998 Castlevania 1-2-3 soundtrack, which includes a few arrangements as well...? It's still cheap and easy to find out there.
I don't see the added value, except probably a new artwork, and if it's as stupid as the poster, it's a negative value. I love Castlevania soundtracks, but this thing is surfing on the current radness of old games & vinyls.
Besides, the poster was 60-80$ guys, seriously? Why not spend a similar amount of money on a real old Castlevania poster?
-
Already got the soundtracks on CD, brug, but thanks for your condescension.
-
No condescension really. Maybe you could tell me why this vinyl is interesting, or why I should be happy/excited about it, as a Castlevania fan and collector. Just calling me condescending won't make it a must-have addition to anyone's collection.
-
Just when I nearly stop caring altogether, they go and put out something that's actually somewhat interesting.

I'm guessing you are unfamiliar with Mondo? You should fix that, they are universally known for their incredible work on licensed properties.

The Simon's Quest record is up, the day/night variant anyway (the normal edition goes on sale at noon of whatever timezone Mondo works in, heh).

It looks pretty boss. I like the rendition of the "death" Dracula. The record features both NES and Famicom versions. Shame about the Konami Kukeiha Club credit and not individual musician credits, though.
I heard Mondo's record for the first game was pretty shitty and basically the CD audio slapped onto wax, so I hope fans complained and they changed their approach with this one and all VG OSTs in the future. Mondo needs to step up their game and start doing the quality work Data Discs and iam8bit are known for.
If their upcoming Silent Hill records aren't mastered-for-vinyl from the original master audio, I'll be beyond pissed.
-
Surprised I'm the only one kicking up a shitstorm about the Super Castlevania IV vinyl Mondo is releasing tomorrow.

I'm excited for Super CV4, but I don't have a Record Player...

Um,yeah...I almost pulled the trigger and bought that before the reality of my never being able to use it hit me

The fact either of you want to actually shell out for this cheap cash-in is disconcerting. That artwork is horrible and the audio quality of the previous albums (definitely the first one at least, which was proven to be directly ripped from one of the CD albums of the 90s) have been questionable. Certainly not the tribute Super Castlevania IV deserves by any means and not worth $30.

I agree, I don't really care for the SCIV art work. I've done some digging into reviews and have seen negative commentary regarding quality issues.
In terms of picking and choosing vinyls Iam8bit sell some pretty interesting ones. They recently had a Cuphead collection and the artwork and casing was superb.
I'd be buying any CV vinyl as more of a collectible. However, Electrical outlet stores here sell LP players for 99 AUD. Surely in the US they'd be a dime a dozen.
-
Yeah, both the Cv3 and 4 artwork were pretty whack. The SCV4 one looks like an adult swim show. Still love the hell out of the Simon's Quest one thoughm
-
Even if no one has a record player, just get the Vinyl soundtrack anyways. You can always get a record player down the road, but the soundtrack release itself probably won't be around for nearly as long.
-
As a big fan of SCV4, the artwork for the vinyl is underwhelming, the back cover looks a little bit better though. The art style reminds me of King of The Hill :P

Sometimes I feel like mastering my CV4 Arrangements and putting them out in an Album.

I'm sure people will buy it.

I'm sure Jorge's artwork would be killer too

You know, the rest of the artwork for SCVIV is pretty badass...

I love this so much. Can't wait for the Symphony of the Night one.
-
The rest of the artwork is better, but the Medusa scene looks too much like Dragon's Lair.
-
Not to mention the fact she seems to be in the wrong location as he SCV4 appearance had her in the middle of the swamps. But those four pics do looks cool. The Orphic viper image does look particularly menacing even though it wasn't nearly that big in the game :o
-
Eh, there was a building at the top of the swamps with a similar layout so I don't mind the locale in the artwork...
...but she's not nearly as cute/sexy as the CV4 version, even if the CV4 version had a questionable face.
-
If the SotN one looks decent I'm definitely buying that.
-

There was yes. But in the game it was a lot more decrepit, barely resembling what we see in the artwork.
...but she's not nearly as cute/sexy as the CV4 version, even if the CV4 version had a questionable face.
Definitely so. I think that's the first time Medusa was fully nude for a US CV release as her CVIII counterpart was made into a man serpent instead.
-
The more I look at the CV4 record art, the more I don't really mind it. I understand what Mondo is doing, at least: tying it into the upcoming cartoon.
Still, given the choice, I'd prefer original art. Mondo and iam8bit do some pretty questionable "bad fan art" covers, the former definitely much more guilty, whereas Data Discs are all about providing original game art, which I like so much more. I own the Snatcher record from Ship to Shore, and even though I'm pretty sure the cover isn't original game art, the rest of the sleeve and inserts are littered with vault art, which is awesome.
I don't hate Mondo's stuff though. The hope is that the mastering is done well, unlike their first CV record. I haven't plunked down for a record player yet so I haven't had a chance to hear my copies, but the fact CV2 and 3 provide both US and JP soundtracks means they're mastering at least part of the albums properly, so I'd be surprised if they're still doing that. I think enough people made a stink about CV1 that Mondo learned their lesson. CV3 was littered with sound effects on CD, and CV4 had some additional SFX like bells for the opening track, so if those are missing, I don't think there's reason to suspect they were taken from the CD masters.
-
I finally got a chance to look over Mondo's Castlevania IV record, and man does this thing scream "half-assed." Sure the artwork's a little iffy, but the meat and potatoes of the release really show Mondo's laziness here. For one, the tracklist is ripped straight from VGMdb's entry for the CD box set, with its so-literal-it-hurts translations ("Mechanical Trick Mansion," "Dripstone Cave"). Two, the music has all the sound effects found on Akumajou Dracula Best 2, implying that at best, Mondo may have had access to the original master tapes and remixed them for vinyl, though who's to say they didn't just slap the CD mix onto wax? Either way, they didn't give this the care that Data Discs show their releases, by recording from real hardware and mixing it with original sound elements provided by the artists. It's really embarrassing and is making me think twice about buying any more of their records.
It's also worth noting that John Linneman (DF Retro) pointed out that Mondo's Contra 3 album is pitched differently than when hearing the game through an SNES, so even when they do record from hardware (or SPC files or whatever sloppy approach they may have taken), they don't even master that properly.
My hope is that at least the Silent Hill scores are being mastered correctly from original sources. If they're just putting the CD master onto vinyl, that's a huge letdown. (I don't have good equipment to properly check out my copy of the first game's OST.) Because at least with those OSTs, there's already a final mix intended for an album release.

As a Mega Man fan, I can assure you, merchandise will wear out it's welcome all too soon, when the years start rolling by and there are no games, and just licensed media and merchandise. And when the only games that ever do come out are cheap collections and/or abominations.
-
^
Sounds like you're enjoying MegaMan Legacy Collection. :P
"Mechanical Trick" Manor is supposed to be "Clockwork Mansion", right?
Clockwork Mansion is the first Stage 4 tune (the old SPC archives has that as "Trick Manor"), and "Spinning Tale" is the second Stage 4 tune. I've never quite understood why it's called "Spinning Tale". Maybe that, too, is a mistranslation?
-
I'm honestly far more interested in the art and other stuff than the the actual vinyl. I've never really cared about that kind of stuff. But I love awesome posters, especially of new artwork. And everything except for Cv3 has been awesome so far. And have you guys seen this Alucard statue?
This is some peak level merch for the series. This and the animated series have my desire for Castlevania material pretty sated. Just bring on Bloodstained, and I'm honestly all set.
-
That Alucard statue is gorgeous! Me likey. ♥
-
Everything about this statue are awesome, but the face could use some polish, for some reason Alucard's face is looking like a teenage boy.
-
That statue is pretty good. I'm not seeing the teenage boy face though. it might just be the angle from which the shot was taken. A full facial view might change the perspective.
-
Maybe they are finally hearing us.
Halloween,Halloween,Halloween!!!!
-
That is a damn nice Alucard figure
-
Corey Felducard looks kinda neat I guess.

Likewise. I've been oogling this since I saw it. I seriously hope that I can get hold of one.
