I have to admit I'm pleased as punch that Marvel has kept this up so long -- I've really been enjoying X-23's stint as Wolverine and I hope I can get a few more years out of that as I honestly find her a more compelling character.
How not to be a dark lord: the answer to that is a terribly interesting answer that involves an almost Jedi-like adherence to keeping oneself under control and finding ways to be true to yourself in a way that doesn't encourage the worst parts of you to become dangerously exaggerated and instead feeds your better nature. Also, protip: don't fuck with Alchemy or strike up any deals with ancient Japanese Shinigami gods no matter how tempting the deal or how suavely dressed the Shinigami is.

Was this "death" the one where Marvel killed him off and replaced him with his daughter and was gonna try and act like he never actually existed or something?

While I enjoy the spoils that come from the comic world, I can't say I keep up with it much.  However, I have a friend who does and we chat about the comic world from time to time.  I have a foggy memory of him saying something about Marvel randomly changing their characters (their race, gender, etc.) to make their comics more inclusive or politically correct with modern ways of thinking...
...if what he was saying was true, was this part of that movement?

?

Hard to refer to comic continuity to analyze film continuity--shitloads more comic and plot-changing and alternate universes than there are films.

No, this actually predated that by a little. Marvel essentially felt that Wolverine's popularity was beginning to smother other lines that they were trying to market at the time, so they took him out. I thought it was a pretty good storyline, actually. This decision was also made a lot easier by their ongoing spat with 20th Century Fox over the X-Men and Fantastic Four film rights and associated characters, which was also the origin of the Avengers Vs X Men plotline 2 years ago, as well as the gradual diminishing and Bus-Boarding of the Fantastic 4 (they're barely present at all in any of the current comics).

Marvel wants to buy their film rights back, and Fox has refused to play ball. Marvel has offered co-film rights like they did with Sony, Fox refused. They offered huge lump sums to buy it all back, Fox refused. So as a last resort, Marvel is now attempting to deliberately devalue the properties so that Fox won't want them anymore. It's inspired, but also petty.

Fortunately, this hasn't really affected Wolverine, as the writers are handling X-23 pretty awesomely in the role, and Logan pretty much wrapped up the hugely popular 20th Century Fox iteration of Wolverine, so it's not really a "threat" to Marvel right now.

Heh, I had to go check the site when all of this Marvel Legacy stuff popped up.

I've been getting heavily into DC titles while waiting for Marvel to sort their shit out, and now I hear that Bendis just signed a deal with DC. Not sure how I feel about that...
It's like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, but instead it's Who Wants Fried Chicken? I do.

yeah mahhhvel's really shit the bed this time.  i'd rather just read a good story instead of trying to figure out what they've done to their universe.

not to worry though, DC fans are covered too!

Ahahaha, never realized - but should've known - that something like that exists.

wait, no, that's not right.  not anymore.  i suppose real life™ just tends to interfere in my reindeer games at times.

ANYWAY, they brought him back.

yeah, marvel couldn't keep that particular cash cow dead for too long.
but i'm proud of them for trying.
