Although it is a remake based on the early pce version, konami did put tons of hard work on it.
From what we have already known so far, it is actually pretty good!
9.5 points, I say it does deserve this.

"That's Dracula!" next to a screenshot of Shaft.  Oh, PSM.

Well thats good! Game Informer gave it a 7. Saying that old school platforming isn't grown up enough for the reviewer. It was basically bashing the fact that its straight forward level based unlike the newer CV's. They also barely mention SotN. But, on the plus side it reminded me why I have always hated that Magizine
What a horrible night to have a curse!

Good thing its getting some respect in the press.  Then again, most 2D CastleVanias have, havent't they?

Silly PSM, that's not Dracula that's just his Shaft.

:-\Something about that sentence just didn't flow right...

I remember during PSP's initial release, there were lots of rumors of SotN being ported to psp. I find it funny how things always flesh out in the end  ;D

Overall your gettting alot out of this umd and a classic historic game. I just hope non castlevania fans and castlevania fans can all appreciate this and maybe we can continue the 2d style once more.

Other than them getting Shaft confused with Dracula (unless that's some weird inside joke that I'm not getting), at least they tried to make the review more fair than GI, by adding the extras as part of the score and telling good points about the game along with the bad other than "it's hard".

I love it to be hard, because all the last Castlevania games, they were from easy to very easy to beat. Also about the 9.5 score that has get i'll say, finally someone has recognize the true value of this classic master piece, even if they have mistaken Shaft for Dracula. That will put the glasses at some others! You know who.

holy crap, VEP!  i've been wondering where you disappeared to!  we've got some catching up to do, man!

anyways, i'm glad this got a good review and hope it sells well.  unfortunately i don't have the scratch to spare for a psp, though i have many reasons to buy one...  this game is an especially good reason.

I squinted to read the review, and it seemed pretty fair and gave what I already feel about the game without having played it at all.  I mean, just for all the bonuses and being able to play Rondo of Blood alone deserves a ridiculously high score.

I'm totally excited to get this for my PSP when it comes out, and I'll probably play the hell out of it. :D

Yeah, GI is pretty much just asspaper. I used to have a subscription -- I was happy when it expired. A 7 because it's old school platforming and it's hard? WTF? I don't understand the reasoning behind that at all. A good video game, whether 2D, 2.5D, or 3D, platforming, survival, fighting, whatever is still a good frackin' game.

Yep, still not regretting letting my GI sub expire.

Isn't PSM the magazine that gave Lair a 9?

They gave it 5 out of 10.
