Soma- status on his soul

I thought it was generally agreed that Soma was born as the reincarnation of Dracula. But I was surprised that some see an alternate theory where Soma was independent of Drac's soul prior to Aria of Sorrow.
What's the general consensus here?
Rebirth of Dracula

or

An unfortunate teenager who gained powers when he entered Dracula's Castle; not a reincarnation of anybody

It has been officially stated that he is Dracula reincarnated... I don't recall anyone here ever disagreeing with this.

Dracula was not always a monster. He was once a man named Mathias Cronqvist. A flawed, conflicted, genius of a man. How did the educated, aristocratic, crusader who piously served the church become a vampire, and eventually the Dark Lord himself, the opposing force to God? From a very young age terrors and tragedy shaped the man into the king of all evil. This is his story.

No, not here but on another forum some people argue otherwise. I just wanted to hear the general thought of the members here.

th epeople who argue otherwise are just stupid. Its official, and stating otherwise just means you are in denile.

You can always fanfic what you think..... but its still not official, feel free to tell those people they fail at life.

Well, it was more or less centered on whether Soma's soul is Mathias but purified, and the other arguement is that A.) Soma and Mathais do not resemble one another

and

B.) Soma's power was gained through entering the eclipse.

I found the interview that confirmed it, JoW, thanks for clearing that up!

I think people that tried to 'assume' that Soma was just 'a normal teenager that unfortunately got Dracula's power' is because of the storyline in Dawn of Sorrow: were two other men could be canidates to hold Dracula's soul because of when they were born.

I figure they just assumed that Soma got it when there are apparently others that could have had the soul as well, so instead of being a perfect reincarnation, he's just more of a 'holder of the soul'.

Or something like that.

But yeah, he's officially the reincarnation.

You missed the point.  Soma is Dracula.  But Dracula is not the only person who could be the lord of darkness.  Graham, Dimitri, and Dario were all people who could have become the lord of evil if they received the power of Chaos.  But Chaos prefers Soma probably just because his soul is more familiar to it.

My take on it was that when Dracula died, his powers were fragmented. His soul wandered the void for a while before reincarnating into Soma. That being said, Soma got the largest chunk of what was once Dracula's power over chaos. Those born on the same day that Dracula was defeated all received small traces of Drac's power, that could be augmented and used at any time in the future. Hence, the Dark Lord Candidates.

The Dark Lord Candidates all have traces of Dracula's power as well, though not nearly as much as Soma since he has Dracula's full soul, and thus he has the largest bid over the powers of Chaos. If Soma were to be killed, then whomever had the next largest amount of Dracula's powers within them would in theory be the next in line to control the powers of Chaos. Given that every Dark Lord Candidate has roughly the same amount of Dracula's power within them (to begin with at least), then any of them could be the next in line for that bid on Chaos.

This would explain how Graham was able to wield the Castle's powers after a certain amount of time of being exposed inside it - it recognized the faint amounts of Dracula's power within him, and simply augmented them. He fed off the Castle, in a sense. However, Soma didn't necessarily need the Castle's influence to access his powers, hence he was the stronger of the two. Both Dario and Dimitri had powers to begin with, but they were augmented by the demons of chaos that Celia summoned for them....instead of feeding off  Castlevania like Graham.

So basically, Soma is Dracula and the Dark Lord, but someone else could become the Dark Lord if Soma were to be killed and the powers of chaos moved onto the next person who could access them. However, only Soma is Dracula and that can't be changed until he dies and his soul is reincarnated again.

Savvy?

B.) Soma's power was gained through entering the eclipse.

The whole reason Dracula was able to be killed permanently in 1999 was because his powers were sealed within the eclipse, thus cutting them off from his soul so he couldn't resurrect anymore.

It was Soma inheriting the soul of Dracula that was in question, not having the powers awakened by entering the castle.

And I was pointing out that the circumstances by which Soma gained his dark powers were not suspect.

What do you mean? The opposing view of the 'Dracula's parasite soul' theory is that Soma gained Dracula's soul when he went through the eclipse, not that he was born with Dracula's/Mathias's soul and that entering the eclipse awoke his powers.

So I've never really gotten into the bullcrap 'Soma isn't Dracula' thing, because it was stated he was, not only for all the reasons that people stated such as...well...OFFICIAL plotline statements, but also because Matthias looks a hellofa lot like Soma. Obvioulsy more developed features since he's 34, and Soma's only 18, but still.

Here, compare.

primerely cheekbones, eyes, the forehead, and the lips. Even the arch of the eyebrows.
