The only thing this has that I don't already own and care about is Secret of Mana (Earthbound I don't give a shit about, always felt it was overrated over stuff like the Mana games, and a lot of other SNES/SFC RPG's, Chrono Trigger I have on the PS1), it has a few games I don't own on it, never had the desire to own them (including both Star Fox games and Super Punch Out). They'll do what they did with the NES Classic, make so many, let the consumers kill each other trying to procure one, then spend a shitload of money on Ebay to have one. No thanks.

Edit: Looks like the Japanese one has Fire Emblem and Panel de Pon (big FU to Tetris Attack, now that I know better, I hate changes to games to appease to certain markets, especially now that I know better). More people know about Panel de Pon now than they did back in the 90's, not to mention the Japanese version actually gives you a hidden extra fight if you do well in the game (that versions "Bowser" is actually the second to last guy, and not the final like in TA. And I know he isn't Bowser, just using him as an example). Especially puzzle games, they did it for Magica Drop (all characters personalities, gone), Puyo Puyo (Kirby and Robotnik, grrrr), and Puchi Carat (no pre match dialogue, half the endings cut out), and Panel  de Pon (which I don't have.....yet. That's why I go Japanese versions for my puzzle games. You just don't screw with my puzzle games.

The Japanese version will receive the superior Street Fighter 2 - The New Challengers while the American one will receive Hyper Fighting? Seems legit...

Baffling they'd do such a thing.

The SFC mini has some other different games on there.  Any games you guys would want switched out from the SNES mini with any of the games from the SFC mini?

Given Ultra SF II's release and the fact it's the new conclusive version of SFII, I think SFIIT/ Hyperfighting makes more sense to me. Plus you can do more weird shit in HF and it's faster.

Not really. Japanese companies have always favored Japanese customers and always given them preferential treatment, with the original US release of Kingdom Hearts being the one exception I can think of, and even that was swiftly nixed by the release of Final Mix.

Hmm that reminds me of a thing some people wished the NES classic had, and that was an online store where more games could be downloaded, and I wished the SNES mini would've had such a thing.  Would've been a great way to roll out some more obscure games.  Maybe place Sparkster somewhere (disclaimer: I haven't played Sparkster) and, if we're getting really obscure, place the full version of Super Turrican on there amongst other things (context: the released Super Turrican was cut down from a previous version in order to fit limited cart memory).

An additionally smart thing to this would've been to add an sd/ minicart slot and actually allow for potential future releases of SNES games. For example, the original SNES Tales of Phantasia was never localised to NA or EUR, it was only ever hacked and translated. Starfox 2 could've been another example, however, I don't know if this game itself would've had enough diehard fans.

Also what would be cool is a way to play original SNES carts.  That would be neato.  I think Atgames tried it with one of their SEGA something-games in one thing, and while they were on to something there, their emulation of SEGA hardware was mediocre (sound problems for example).

Main problem IMO is the lack of Fei Long, Cammy, T.Hawk and Dee Jay. Also I prefer characters' portrait art from Super Street Fighter 2 - The New Challengers.

Y'all seem to be conflating the SNES mini as something other than what it is.

It's lacking these extra features we'd love for a good reason.

Nintendo has said that the production run will be longer than it was for the NES Mini, but there will still be only one, and no SNES Minis are projected to be shipped in 2018 or beyond. This is a quick single run novelty product, and so Nintendo isn't planning on ever expanding the lineup of games.

It's pretty easy to infer then that Nintendo is essentially doing these as a glorified publicity stunt to bolster their core Switch business by bringing attention back to Nintendo long enough to make some sales.

Which would be a great strategy... if Nintendo could still sort out their supply issues for the Switch too, which is still out of stock everywhere pretty much since launch. That'd be since March.

Nintendo: We Don't Manufacture Enough Of Our Cool Stuff ~ The Company

I swear to god, Satoru Iwata never would have stood for these regular supply and demand problems.

I think the main thing I'd want this for (if you don't count nostalgia) is FF3.  I think I own most of the other games through the Virtual Console, or an actual hard copy.

And despite the fact that I think BA is right about Nintendo's purpose with these mini-consoles, I still wish they'd have a bigger deal out of them or a brighter flash-in-the-pan.  I dunno...50 top titles, or 100, or more "cult classics" included alongside the greatest hits...and for certain: GREATER AVAILABILITY!!!  (I think of how they've talked about keeping some games "simple" so everyone can play and enjoy the whole story but don't apply the same principle for the "everyone" that wants to enjoy these retro systems.)

Were you sleeping under a rock when the Wii first came out?

Were you sleeping under a rock when the Wii first came out?

That was a notable exception then. But look at Nintendo now: every single high profile console hardware release since his death has been wracked with supply issues. Switch? Out of stock since March. NES Mini? Out of stock immediately -- paltry lip service was paid to "we're getting it back on track asap" and then instead it was abruptly discontinued. SNES Mini is shaping up to be the exact same thing, given that preorders ran out less than 10 minutes after they opened. Even the New 3DS XL is no exception these days, with it regularly out of stock at most stores in my state.

And the Wii? Terrible example to pick, as it was TEN YEARS AGO. Up until Iwata's death in 2015, Nintendo had a fair reputation in that intervening decade. And when he said "we're gonna sort this shit out", boy howdy did they ever. The Wii went on to become one of the best selling consoles ever.

Nintendo today doesn't give me any part of that impression.
