Is it shameful that I actually kind of would play Bible Black: Castlevania Edition? But maybe that's for another thread entirely. Hehehe. They could call it "Castlevania: AFTER SUNSET".
I'll stop with those jokes now.
I still think that optioning the rights to another company is a wise move at this point. It's not like Castlevania is a huge franchise anymore -- whatever this game makes is gonna be peanuts to what people will give Iga and his partners just out of nostalgia.
Castlevania never was a huge massive earner like Silent Hill or Metal Gear, but it was also a consistent one. Almost every single post-SOTN release made reliable money, which is the strength of finding your fans and staying true to their preferred formula. Did we have gripes? Yes, of course we did. Gamers are impossible to please 100%.
That being said, Konami killed their golden goose with SH, MGS, and CV because those were always going to sell no matter what, but now they won't outside of Japanese arcades, and Castlevania and Metal Gear IN PARTICULAR were always more popular in the West.
You know what? This trailer may have been Konami taking a dig at IGA (they're certainly not above such childishness), but I blame Eric Alvarez for this.
If he hadn't gotten so cocked up and screwed LOS2 over so mightily, the Castlevania name might mean something at Konami still. What an egostical scumbag.
