Title: The best 2 pop-culture products you enjoyed in 2017?
Post by: Bengr Hausve on November 14, 2017, 07:40:31 AM
A pop-culture product might be e.g. a video game, a music album, a movie, a book, a comic book, a theatrical play, art, something else.

These best 2 don't have to be 2017 products. Just something, you enjoyed the most in 2017. Go!  ;D

Mine 2 were:

1.) A Mae Young Classic Pro-Wrestling tournament,
bringing 32 women back to the WWE.
 About time.(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1260.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fii574%2FMusa_Garnet%2F20170822_MaeYoung_Classic__6352b92a0517fdc08d6fb8f1d163c5af.0_zpswg0wjxkd.jpg&hash=4f55a8a184b539d8a6f55d965e475db4)

2.) And Spike-Chunsoft's Danganronpa 1 (2010). Better than  Zelda: Breath of the Wild ja Mario Odyssey.

I gave a nickname to that tournament, the Pokewrestler Gotta Catch Em All Tournament. As a fan of every company but WWE, myself and several of my Twitter followers who were wrestling fans saw exactly ht this was, a recruitment tool to try and rob the Indies and prevent other companies from having access to and signing these women. In the end they surprisingly passed on some damned great talents (thankfully, Mia Yim, head your ass back to Impact darling, Rosemary awaits you, though she did fight you in Shimmer recently). Vince McMahon and Paul Levesque are both slimeballs of the ultimate variety, both sneaky snakes. And word was going around that WWE wasn't signing by talent, but by looks, something ancient in today's wrestling world when Impact, Shimmer, Shine, ROH, Stardom in Japan, Ice Ribbon and Wave, as well as SEAdLINNNG (all in Japan) don't look at beauty, but by talent.

I blocked several WWE trolls on Twitter who tried to troll about the tournament, but I found several people like myself who would never trust Vince or Paul (aka Triple Nose) who rallied and shut down trolls. The mentality of a lot of the fanbase is like dealing with a room full of middle schoolers who think they are awesome, but are rude and crude. If you truly want to see great women's wrestling, Impact, Shimmer, Shine, ROH, Stardom, Ice Ribbon, WAVE, and SEAdLINNNG have it in spades.

As for my pop icon favorites, Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead, one immensely popular (and a fanbase that cries when a CGI tiger dies), and one slowly on the rise that has come into it's own, but season 3 ended on a rather strange note.

And I'm still pissed Kairi Hojo left Stardom to go to the WWE, but in her absence, young ladies have  swooped in and taken advantage, including the porcelain doll cute Tam Nakano.

Not attacking you for liking it, but each time I see reference to that tournament, it boils my blood fiercely. The fanbase wants WWE to sign everyone, which is impossible, as quote Kenny Omega, why sign and ride the pine.

Definitely Metroid: Samus Returns and Dragon Ball Super (basically the only 2 I've had time for).

Horizon Zero Dawn on PS4 and the Wonder Woman film. Yeah those are probably my favorite 2 things.

Horizon Zero Dawn was a really good game. I enjoyed it and hope they make a sequel. Also finished Metroid: Samus Returns. It was good too, however I felt the Ridley fight was kinda forced in there as he was not part of the original game story. That and all the hoops I had to jump through just to defeat him. Thank god for internet video walk-throughs.

There was a released expansion. I don't know if they'll make a sequel, but since the game was well received, why not?

I know of the expansion too. I'll wait till it is all released on disc before I buy.

Do they still release expansions in discs nowadays?

Depending on the company in question, yes. But only those who still believe in the old wisdom: In order to make money we must be willing to spend it. Unfortunately a severe trend is blowing in the wind where the internet solves everything. The reality is, is does not, because some problems have risen due to the net. But most major gaming companies won't listen to reason. They only want to save money and the net is the cheapest way to do that. So games leave the production line too early for their own good--incomplete and riddled with bugs. And the companies' excuse is to release patches and updates later on. Lazy as f@#k. This is a problem that didn't exist back in the analogue days when the net was scarce or non-existent. Games came out virtually flawless because they had to. There was no net to download patches or bug fixes. If a game was heavily flawed upon launch, it was a failure, and the company in question would be slammed by the gaming community.

1. Probably the DC Rebirth comics in general, but if I had to pick title, probably The Button. Didn't expect to like it so much, since it's dragging Watchmen characters back into DC stories, and since Tom King was part of the writing team (seems like a great writer in general, but good lord, his Batman run has been total shit). Can't wait until Doomsday Clock makes it in a trade format.

2. Maybe the new Wolfenstein? Not as enjoyable as The New Order, but still a solid game. It's frustratingly tough until you get the hang of it, then it gets pretty fun.

Fidget Spinners. Or was that 2016? Either way, still Fidget spinners.

I was amazed that in this year of our lord two thousand and seven-teen, an actual toy was the item on children's wish lists.

What fucking year is this? 1996?

Since it's still 2017, I need to also add that I've been glued to Sonic Mania the last couple of days, so I'd definitely add this to my list. I don't think I've played a Sonic game as much since Sonic 2 or 3.

2017 for fidget spinners, I remember trying to figure out the appeal in them besides maybe kids with learning disabilities could use them to learn to concentrate and not let the mind wander. I've met parents who got them just for that purpose.
