16:9 aspect ratio ... is a must, btw.

highly debatable, but if the entire thing's gonna be structured and designed around it then it's fine--just don't go the route of "let's do traditional 256x240/224 but then stretch it to 16:9 because reasons"

-Multi-chip soundtrack

something like this i'm guessing?

I heard that Shovel Knight was created with the NES limitations in mind.

In mind, but not followed to the fullest. Some colours were added, and there are many other things as well. (amount of sound effects playing at once, number of palettes on screen, sprite size, etc.) Basically something in-between the NES and Genesis in terms of performance.

I used to get tingling and numbness in my ulnar and radial nerves...bugged the crap out of me. I think it was the combination of weightlifting and working with my hands. But then I got a managerment position and didn't have to use tools on a daily basis anymore, and it went away. But now I can't lift until my AC joint problem clears up. Good times.

yeah, that's the part that bothers me more--sure, the pain sucks when it flares up but it's nothing i can't deal with; it's the times where like my hands aren't working right

and then sometimes the body just doesn't care and does both at once with handlock

Maybe lay it flat with the screen side facing up, and pull it out of the box that way? Not sure.

This is the most sound way of doing it by one's self if there are no others. Or Bengr Hausve you could lay the box down flat and cut it apart. That's another solution. But just be careful not to cut the merchandise.

Check out how much of this is Castlevania themed. Konami definitely still remembers Castlevania.
