That is a really cute, tasteful, and well-crafted NES Sonia Sprite.

Since that time she copped the Alucard Spear...  ;D

When does this release for the NES mini?  :P

I can hack it into my NES Mini.
Then it'd go right next to my Chorus of Mysteries and Simon's Quest Remaster (the one with the map and the save function).

Just how much memory does the Mini have? You should stack the entire NES library into it, if it's possible.

If they make Sonia playable in Castlevania II, I would go so HYPER and try to Dreamcast their modded version just like I did with some NES games on Dreamcast so I didn't need a PC to play them and can play on large screen!! (well ok, I don't have the means to burn stuff on CDs like I used to, and it's so confusing, anyways, I would play it on PC).

EEEEEEE it's so outstanding how these mod masters make Castlevania games even more amazing!!
It really makes a world of a difference.

Awesome! I always hoped someone would make a Legends mod for Castlevania 3. I hope we get a fan remake or sequel out of this but even if not this is just very neat by itself :)

its pretty big but not quite that big I dont think. I have about 400 games on mine and its a pain to navigate

The NES Mini has about 500MB, about a CD's worth.
Enough to host every NES game.

I have it full of the better NES games, and a nice healthy library of SNES.
It can also play N64, SMS, Sega Genesis, GB/GBC/GBA.

If you set your folder directories to hold 30 games, the menu doesn't feel slow.  Still feels nice and sleek.

See I would do this but I have an original Xbox with Roms from each 8-bit and 16 bit console, even Sega-CD, 32-X (you'd only use them for Sonic really) and gamegear. The only thing I don't have is arcade (aside from Neo Geo) and 3DO. I'll be saving my NES Classic for a rainy day(/ rainy day fund).

looks great, though i don't envy anyone who decides to work on CV3...
there is a truly monstrous amount of information associated with that rom.

Welcome Sephirous to...YOUR DUNGEON!  ;D

Can't wait for you guys to finish this rom hack you got going. This'll surely give the Sonia Belmont character the proper justice she should have received from the start.

Wow as a Sonia fan, I approve of this highly,  this look amazing, fantastic Job, I can't wait to play it. The sprite animation is soooo smooth. Really this looks Great.
its shame more games didn't have her in it, they didn't have to keep Trevor being  the son of her and Alucard  as that really messed things up, but its a shame she didn't just get re mixed. oh well more for me.

yea IGA should have dedicated LOI to Sonia Belmont since CV:R was canned.
her story didn't need a lot of rewriting, and Sonia as lead protagonist is better than the usual dude rescue the damsel trope that's overused since the 8 bit days.

well anyways this Sonia project is looking awesome, and she's epic in Serio's Castlevania Fighter too.

though yea Castlevania adventures type of game have more interesting level design and stuff.

a Castlevania II type game featuring Sonia would be cool too, or with character select like HD and Serio's has, except its open world like CVII, and like nonlinear progression, with mansions and bosses and towns, townspeople and stuff.

Wow, I wasn't aware Sonia had this many fans. Legends was godawful which doesn't help her case. What is it about her that people like so much?

I'm still waiting for an OoE hack that has a Belmont in it so I can play the game and not be bored with the characters available.  :P

Progressivism is a likely reason. A whole clan of vampire hunters being started by a badass female warrior porkin' it with a half-vampire is a pretty novel idea. Plus, being in a lackluster game, as well as a canceled one, gives into intrest of what could've been.

Bleh. I find Sonia's to be the least compelling origin story of any of the ones offered up. I don't even like the idea of Trevor becoming Alucard in the LoS realm of stories, so the idea that all the Belmonts are part vampire because she and Alucard got together is reason enough for her to stay as a non-canon character imo. Legends being probably the worst CV title ever released is another.

honestly, i find harmony of dissonance to be a more cringeworthy experience...  the music in legends was far more competent, at least.  burning mode would've been a nice feature to see in some of the other games.
sonia's story could certainly use a lot more fleshing out, there is some potential there.  though it seems like any expansion to the existing stories seems to be up to us (the fans) anymore.

Burning mode is almost Richter's Fire Whip mode.
I like this game and how they tried to mix classicvania with exploration (hidden rooms, trap rooms, hidden stage...). You can even save in the Japanese version.
While I can understand why some people dislike this origin story, I really liked it years ago before Lament of Innocence, now that LoI exists and explain a lot more of things sure I prefer it, but lets not forget that Legends tried to explain about the sub-weapons and Medusa Heads :P

Funny that you mentioned HoD too because I think these two titles were ambitious for their time but were held by something.

Oh my, there's a thread about my hack.  Didn't know word spread this far lol.

I'm still working in it as Stage 1 is done for now or at least until I get the programming done with someone's help later on down the road.  Ropes are going to be a thing  :)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjyyh5mUVnk (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjyyh5mUVnk)

The events of this remake are to be set 100 years prior to Castlevania 3.  Story may be adjusted around yet.  Not official canon of course but setting it in that big, untouched area between Leon and Trevor.

Right now my entire focus has been shifted towards helping Sephirous with  his Cadence of Agony reboot.  Will post up some stuff once I get my three random posts done so I can get stuff uploaded into the Fan section lol :)

Before I forget, her new look as well as of right now.   May change later on.  Based some of the parts off of a Lords of Shadow: MoF Simon sprite that I have saved back for a rainy day :)

Its going to be a long road until I get Legends NES done so all I ask is for everyone to be patient.  Going to aim for custom enemies, bosses and everyone's favorite stuff, Easter Eggs  ;)

I really like how you gave Sonia a proper length for her whip. The gameboy iteration was too short. Are you planning to implement her fire whip upgrade as well? Also I was thinking; You should do both ropes and stairs. It would help create more opportunities for uniquely designed stages. That, and I miss the classicvania stair climbing  :'(
Title: Re: Castlevania Legends NES Sonia Belmont reveal video
Post by: Sinis on July 31, 2017, 11:24:57 AM
Nah, there's not going to be a fire whip as that may be too much variety on what I have planned.  Going to see about implementing Sypha's attacks as elemental ones though placed in the sub weapons so if an axe or boomerang hits something it'll be frozen or takes extra damage from the fire effect however with the cost of extra hearts.  The idea can be modified a little later on but to kinda give an idea and a ground base to go by.

Stairs are actually going to stay in though seeing if it can be done alongside the rope mechanic I'd like to introduce.  Certain stages will have one or each within them as things will get progressively harder but not to the point of impossible.  Trying to aim for a Castlevania 1 difficulty and then some.  Not sure if there will be new attacks or anything yet but want to do a new jump and death animation.

Eventually in time I'll start a thread on here in the Fan Section to keep people in the loop on here.  Still not sure of how this place welcomes ROM hacks though didn't see no obligations to Cadence of Agony.  In time when it is done I'll provide a link to the IPS patch, be a couple of years from now (give or take) when that happens :)

Had another project going, Vengeance on Hell 2, another Castlevania 3 hack gone to Akumajou Densetsu ROM but people are calling for Legends NES more over that anything else so I put that to the side for all focus to be done on Sonia's NES debut :)

a hack with a storyline?  stop it, you're making me nostalgic! :P
anyhow, keep up the good work.  with the insane amount of data in CV3, there will always be something left to work on...

I know.  I wanted it in as well but had to step back once I realized that there was a lot going for sub weapons and all that plus not sure if that certain limitation for sprites on the screen at once would handle it being thrown about all the time as sometimes the bone pillar statues' fireballs would disappear due to too much stuff going on within the screen so had to take that into a factor.  Once I'm all done with my stuff for now on the Cadence of Agony reboot I'll make a thread on here in the Fan section dedicated to my ROM hack along with any and all information relating to Castlevania 3 and Akumajou Densetsu.  If anyone even wants to contribute stuff towards the project with sprite work and all that feel free to as I'm open to anyone that wants to offer a helping hand :)

Alas, I like rolling in the nostalgia lol ;)

Thanks.  When you look at all of the information in Castlevania 3 its not that much intimidating.  Just have to take it with a lot of patience and treat each animation with care :)
