I've been meaning to try this out.

I love how it incorporates whip swinging from IV and rope climbing from the GB Castlevanias.

Me too. Gotta give it props for trying to be 'sexy'.

To be both bait & trap.

I keep meaning to check this game out. The only thing I don't like is that some of the boss fights look like they take ages to win.

But the final boss (and the accompanying music) are pretty awesome. Gotta get off my ass and play it one of these days.

I've played this game and beat it on a number of occasions. The two levels that still give me grief is the cave stage and the clocktower stage. Those two are hard as f**k! A great challenge for those whom are looking to die over and over again. Personally I feel this game should be counted as a CV game. The music is also a high-pointer to listen to. I would love it if someone from here or anywhere could do higher quality adaptions of them. All in all I'd recommend this game to any diehard Castlevania fan. Need a CV fix? Then try this game out.

Not as long as you might think. Once you get to fighting them you forget about how long it takes as you try to beat them down before you die...again. although I will say that the plant boss does take some time but as long as you are patient then it should be no trouble.

It also incorporates elements from Vampire Killer too. You need to collect keys in order to progress giving this game several CV elements all in one challenging game.

Is it possible to hack a Wii that has current firmware?

Me too. I'm too lazy to look myself. I'm betting it has something to do with a port of DOS box or something like that, though.

EDIT:

Boredom won out over laziness. There is a version of DOSBox for Wii.

That outfit sure is sexy.
So if I write a fanfic where Rusty gets turned into a succubus, does that mean she would be wearing more clothes?

There's a PC-98 emulator for Wii.
There's also a PC-88 emulator for Wii.
And there's DOSBOX for Wii.

The PC-88 and 98 emulators are somewhat clunky to use but emulate the game pretty well, last I checked.  It's tough though because of the lack of an on-screen keyboard (you need a keyboard for best PC-98/88 emulation).

Dosbox has support for usb keyboards, do the others?

I agree. I found it much easier to play Rusty using a controller then the keyboard. I had to fiddle with the PC-98 emulator on my computer but it was worth it in the end.

Dalles, thanks for posting the game in a pre-configured DOSBOX format. Over the years I've always seen a few screenshots and plenty of gameplay vids but never got around to actually playing it personally. Now it's all too convenient not to miss! I'm gonna plug my wired 360 controller and take a swing at this thing. :D

I'm happy to be of help. Note: initial cutscenes may still require keyboard to skip -- if the gamepad doesn't work, don't be put off. It definitely works ingame, I played this with no JoyToKey or XPadder whatsoever. Dosbox detected the gamepad and the game supports it, I saw this myself.

An interesting article that points out a lot of the similarities between Rusty and Dracula X: Rondo of Blood:
http://www.vgmuseum.com/mrp/multi/Essays/essay-dougr.htm (http://www.vgmuseum.com/mrp/multi/Essays/essay-dougr.htm)

The noteworthy thing about this article is that it shows Rusty actually came out before Dracula X? Intriguing stuff...

Interesting article. the evidence definitely points to some sort of connection between Rusty & RoB. Also, the more I look at Rusty, the more I want to do a graphics hack that replaces the protagonist with Sonia.

I'd like to see this! However it would be a bit of a trifle as the pixel layout is 1 horizontal and 2 vertical. To date I've not seen any other game do this with their graphics. But then again I've only ever play this one game for this one PC system.

This is one of the last games I tried.
Together with the Michmede games (Dracula's Shadow and Castlevania: Quest) I believe they are the best not official Castlevania games.

Eh, one more to the collection can't hurt xD
