People messing with the respect points

It seems that someone has been messing again with the respect points.
Mine has dropped 9 points in 3 hours, and I can't even find when because in my first pages nothing appears, so it's someone just trolling me, downvoting super old posts.
It's not the first time this happens.
Days ago, someone TOTALLY COMPLETELY TROLLED poor Ahasverus. I fixed that myself upvoting like 50 posts, but it really annoyed me, because I like him and it wasn't fair.

I wonder if we can implement some solution. I thought a couple solutions myself...

* One would be to get rid of the respect system, so no ones messes and if someone disagrees with other user they'd have to say why posting, or swallow it. Sometimes I wonder if the points are even worth for what they are... to me it is like a score for a game, but when I find stupid people doing stupid things it loses its charm and I think perhaps we would get along better without them.
* Other option would be to include a list of recent votes, say, like recent 200, both positive and negative, so no one can go trolling because votes would be on plain sight of everyone.
* And the other answer to this could be adding an option so that posts older than, say, a week, can't be downvoted. This can work perfectly with the previous option.
* Another option could be to require a minimum of time registered and amount of posts to vote. I'm not pointing fingers to anyone, please don't misunderstand me. But duplicate accounts of people who disagreed with me were a problem in the past for me.

As for myself, when I find out who is messing with me, I'll proceed to use the ignore function.
I have enough problems in my life to have to be worrying here where I'm supposed to have fun and relax.
In the meantime, I'd like users to posts their opinions about this subject that, from what I see, all it ever did so far was causing trouble and starting fights.

Thanks for your time.

Already found. It seems they were 2 users. And the posts were kind of new (but from days ago).
I was about to return the favour to them, but I'm better than that. I just used the ignore function.
Had I used it months ago with this user, I'd be having like 50 more points now.
And to be clear: It's not about the points, it's about the stupid attitude.
If you don't like my opinion, write about it and I can be very comprehensive and peaceful. Everyone here knows how peaceful I am to discuss things and how I get along with different opinions when it's done with respect (real respect, not the points).

Also, it's very suspicious that all that posts (all of them) were downvoted by the 2 same users (all of them).
I can't prove anything but I doubt they would agree both of them to downvote the same posts.

I can't tell user names because it is against the rules to call out someone in public, but most of that posts are in the "Era of no Belmont" thread, if anyone's wondering.

I'm sure administrators can check everyone's IP in order to avoid users having more than 1 account, if that's the case here.
I'd rather be a telltale in a peaceful forum than to stay shut in a flamebait trolling fest like other forums I've been to and that today I regret doing.
We all like here the way it is. All peace and harmony, friendly atmosphere and sweet talk. Girls-friendly, kids-friendly, even my mom would be pleased to post here. Let's keep it like that.

An IP check reveals both to be the same person, action will be taken and one account deleted.

Hate to see the respect system abused this way, it undermines the fun gamey intention. I'm sure the other mods and admins would be interested to hear what everyone thinks on this. Should we keep the respect system or is it not worth it? The 1 week voting period sounds good to me but I'm not sure to what degree if any the system can be tweaked.

Action has been taken against the offending party, now back to your regular forum activities.

Also I too think we need to take a vote on the respect system thing, I am not one for it.

Why was it installed in the first place? To me, it makes little difference, but it is increasingly dubious that only a few opinions seem to have made a difference in how it is.

Originally anonymous (which was more entertaining, because it had the whodunnit aspect and I think it was a healthy dose of realism for some), it was modified because established forum goers didn't like it. Now that it's out in the open, it's still not good. If the opinion of majority is such a big deal, it should have been voted since even trying.

As long as its usernames spicing it up with a couple of clicks of the mouse to get a reaction through usernames and avatars, it's pretty much the definition of "not serious business". Think of it as a board game. This isn't real as long as we don't mix it with reality. It's not even close to getting flaming dog poop to your doorstep. That is frivolous and silly, but this isn't even close to it.

What are chances you're ever going to meet the person who downvoted you? You won't get to see how he or she really is. And you don't really know how the person you + or - is. It can't be personal, so I suggest you don't take it personally.

FYI, this was a motivational speech.

so you lost nine points why should you worry about that when you have 500+ respect?  :P or is it more so the fact that someone just did it to be a douche instead of legitimately giving you minuses ?

* Another option could be to require a minimum of time registered and amount of posts to vote. I'm not pointing fingers to anyone, please don't misunderstand me. But duplicate accounts of people who disagreed with me were a problem in the past for me.

Pfil, dear, I like you but...

This system already exists Pfil lol
You can only vote after doing some posts and that takes a time. Even so, is someone wanted they could wait some days and do the same thing.

Also yourself said that thinks at it like a game, so treat it like one. Putting a time limit to a post be -1'd or +1'd doesnt seems right too, since someone else like me would like to read ancient posts and if its cool enough give a +1. Also imagine if we couldnt vote older posts, so what? The same person that does this type of thing would downvote all your newest posts anyway.

If someone would change something, I would suggest a reason system, so if you vote in something you should give a reason. But wait, what if someone thinks "Oh, but it takes some secons to write a reason and Im lazy, I dont want to type one or more words and..." then there is the answer: If you really think that this person deserves a vote, you will spend some seconds writing a reason, otherwise you are only randomly voting without thinking or without reason and you are helping to make this "unfair" if you want to call it like that.

But since thinking about a system is one thing and doing or implementing one is much harder, its better if we ignore it and see where these numbers can go, this respect system doesnt means anything. Look at us Pfil, do you really think that you and me deserves this giant amount of points? lol
A lot of old users are here from years and deserves to have more than 2000 points IMO, not because of time, but because they really are gentle and cool. So thats a perfect example of how this system is there only for the lulz and acts like a bonus to kill boredom, I mean, look at us, if this system doesnt existed, we wouldnt be having this casual conversation.

I don't have any problem with the karma system existing, I just don't much care for the way it works here.

Is anybody here a member of Badmovies.org?  They have a really good karma system set up.

If you're not a member, let me show it off to you.

This is an average post.

The applaud of boo options are right under the name and title and above the avatar.

Click on Applaud of Boo, and you'll get this screen.

If you go to your profile (or somebody else's profile) it gives you the options right there of seeing whose karma you changed and who changed your karma.

And if you click on those, you get this

You can click on IN TOPIC and it will take you to the exact post your karma was changed on.
