Title: Nightkeep (2D indie platformer)
Post by: Nightale on June 10, 2016, 11:53:44 AM
i d like to share my spare-time project here. I am inspired by castlevania a lot but I am creating my own lore. Someone might like it, or maybe not. Its not so good after all I am quite amateur programmer, mere hobbyist. Neither I am great animator or so but i m somewhat trying to do it decent at least.
Lore:
(click to show/hide)
The creature hunters, the rangers, the slackers. That's what people call 'em. There ain't alot of 'em, but their reputation ain't that good. These hunters look for work themselves. Every once in a while, they hear about something. Then, they go after it. They're the kind of people who visit the city, ask for a load of cash, finish the job, and then vanish into the shithole they came from. A few times, some of these hero wannabes took the money and made a run for it. While the creature they were
supposed to slay was still feeding on innocent children However, even people like them are needed sometimes. In the event of the Calamity, everyone has their purpose, and making a run for it is as good as committing suicide. It's in times like these, when people stay together, that the hunters are a sword and shield. In the world where people learned to live among monsters, everyone has their place. Whether you're a blacksmith or a hunter, you can't live without each other. Just imagine a hunter without a proper weapon, or a blacksmith running out of bussiness. Both would fall into oblivion. Thankfully, this will never happen as long as the danger of the Calamity exists. The Calamity is a strange phenomenon that occurs every 113 years. On the day of the Calamity, the sun shall not rise. It is as if a bloody moon stops time and waits until the last breath of humanity. Some call this the night of harvest. During this time, hoards of monsters rise from the darkness and destroy everything in their path. It doesn't matter how many times they're killed. One falls to the ground and two come to take its place. It's a time when humanity must vindicate and protect its existence. Hunters from all around the world come to meet at a special place to avert the Calamity. One cycle for every generation. That place is Bramecia, a village not far from the Night valley. Legend treats it as the epicenter of all evil. However, the time hasn't come just yet, so the hunters still look for work whenever they can. Among the hunters was a single woman, Arietta. She always finished the job she was paid to for. This time, something unusual happened. She wasn't looking for work, nor did she desire it. Work, however, found her. A dove flew up to her with a scroll. „Your arrival is anticipated“ it read. The letter was sent to her from Bramecia...

Thanks. Yes, I am creating pixelart myself. I studied castlevania and demon's crest art several times, it helps me to achieve/improve my direction.

Well it looks like you have quite a bit done already, and that's good. Don't give up now :)

thanks for fixing the link. Haha your faith in the project pleases me, tho I think its not so good as I tend to create things in very easy way. I think I may release some test-play room within two weeks, I will drop by here as well.

Hello, here's my Lamevania game which I have been working since 2015. I dont think its a good game but I love to create my world.
to download click orange button with "STÁHNOUT SOUBOR" , this is czech file sharing site. and then in the down right corner "STÁHNOUT POMALU".
I found out that music in build is a bit broken, if you die it does not reset the track, so two overlap and it damages ears. :) I dont intend to fix this issue within this alpha testplay, just informing you about this.

Gave your game a shot. Took me several lives to figure out how to attack as that was not mentioned in the controls briefing, lol. Sadly I couldn't get anywhere past the starting room. I assume that was intentional?

It's only alpha tech-demo, nothing else, it contains 1 test room with few enemies (should have state that at the post above). Menu, equip, other weapons and some relics were disabled in this testplay. Weird I thought controls were described at the start of the test. Any feedback @the testplay?

It mentions moving and dodging but not attack and jump

fairly solid controls. I had no real issues playing. I noticed that the jump is measured by how much or little you press the jump command. It's not a bad thing mind you. In fact it could help with administrating strategy within the game itself.

releasing tech demo, but it has some issues which should be changed. Anyway I think no one will finish it, so.

Im not sure exactly what I did lol. But in the starting room. I went to the left and it went back to the start screen. When I hit enter again I was in the game again but in a different room. I explored til I got some pink ghost boss and he killed me. Then it seemed like I got stuck in a loading loop. It said loading please wait and I could see the character in the top left corner and itd just do that over and over. Fade in... loading... char in top corner... repeat. I had to close it with task manager
