Title: Konami remembered Castlevania, guys! You're gonna wish they didn't, though...
Post by: Foffy on January 06, 2022, 12:14:39 AM
Y'all like Castlevania, right? Do y'all like dogshit NFTs? Well, you're not in luck because Konami, celebrating the 35th anniversary, is literally selling you the bare minimum as NFTs. (https://www.konami.com/games/memorial-nft/en/)

Not much more to say here. Just more evidence they really don't care about their properties, and unique to Konami, without the people who made these franchises what they were still at the company, NFTs really might be the best thing they can come up with.

Disappointing how they treat the legacy of a franchise they obviously lost the ability to understand long ago. It's a disgrace. That art isn't even theirs.

I've had hard time understanding what NFTs are, because the explanations I have heard are basically describing the selling of nothing. Paying real money for basically nothing in return, without the consent of the artists that originally created the art being sold as an NFT. It sounds more like a scam than anything else...

Some say Chaos from AoS was comprised solely of Castlevania NFTs….

This is something which did not run too far from what I was thought. The whole things they did just doesn't make any sense at all. When you expect something long lost, they not only diss at you, but always offer you something else, plus far worse. That's Konami.
Never put hopes too high to the pitiful company. Castlevania's future relies on somebody else who do care about the IP's true value and do care about the whole 2D action genre.

What Konami is doing reminds me of those unwanted mystery boxes you see sold at stores. They're just full of crap nobody want's to buy.

That's absolutely what it is. It's a giant scam and waste of time and money, exploiting people with more money than sense, more love of "new tech" than sense, or just no sense at all. Additionally, NFTs are very wasteful of energy, which is terrible for the environment. It's just a travesty for Konami to get involved with this nonsense, I don't know what they're thinking. And I thought they had turned over a new leaf with cool stuff like the Getsu Fuuma remake...seems like they're back to their old trash tricks.

Konami has been watching too much Gary Vee… Next they’ll be going to Garage Sales and tracking down copies of their own physical games and reselling them at inflated prices on VeeBay… It’s bulletproof!!! 8)

Same here. The Getsu remake looked fun, and I've honestly enjoyed the Castlevania collections, but then they get in on this dumbass NFT crap. Just makes them look scummy and lazy.

Imagine, if you will: A picture on the internet.
And what you are buying, isn't the picture, but a receipt for the picture.

That's the simplest way to explain an NFT. It's literally just a moneymaking scam to part fools from their money.

Which is why it's funny to laugh at all the idiots buying those dumb ape nfts and then hopelessly crying out when someone "steals" it by right clicking and saving. Because you can't do shit. What you bought was not a picture, but a string of code that represents the picture on the blockchain. An overglorified reciept

Some or all of the Castlevania NFTs say that there's unlockable assets.  So it seems they're getting "something" that a non-owner doesn't have access to.  I'm guessing these unlockables are higher resolutions of the videos or images?  If they then go ahead and post that picture or share it on the internet, then they won't really own anything special other than the receipt.

I'm also curious if the owner would be able to hide the digital asset once purchased.  Does the auction page disappear once there's a buyer and then if you didn't save the file (publicly accessible representation of the asset) and didn't buy the asset, do you then lose your chance save the file if you don't find it posted by someone else who did or the item goes for auction again?

Just makes them look scummy and lazy.

As opposed to just being regular lazy with the pachislot and gacha games they've been haucking until now.

They hadn't even reached their ultimate scum form yet.

Seems like the auction was a success and there will probably be more.  I’m sure other properties are coming, but wonder how long it would be before another Castlevania one comes out.  Environmental issues aside, I think they’re rather neat.  They belong in a museum.  Sure, the average gamer can’t really get on the bidding game when they’re this pricy, but anyone can enjoy the artwork or even add it to their own “favorites” gallery (i think).  It’s kind of entertaining to watch the value of these things.  I just hope the time they spend producing these doesn’t detract them from making a new game and would like to think it’d encourage them to do so.  We’ll see how long this “fad” lasts though haha.  I feel bad for anyone who gets burned buying these things and losing money.  Hope they’re all able to take the hit.

That's the only way NFTs can appreciate. That's how the money pool gets bigger.

If the success of the Netflix series didn't convince them to start developing a new game, I don't think this fad will.

The thing that I really hate about this is that it's not too far along after the whole Wada/Heritage Auctions thing started getting heat. I'm not saying that situation is related to this, other than both being about entities wanting to find a low-effort way to make money off of gaming nostalgia.

As opposed to just being regular lazy with the pachislot and gacha games they've been haucking until now.

Heh, true. I guess I did understate the do-nothing business strategy of Konami when it comes to their IPs. I shudder to think about what they'll actually try next while not giving anything close to a shit.

At least the results might discourage other companies from adding gameplay elements to NFTs.  I don’t think I’d be happy if the price of a dlc is based on the marketplace.

And of course, they didn't factor in seven simple words that can bring the whole thing down:

"Right click. Save as. Share with others."

it'd be interesting if we got a set of nfts for the 35th anniversary of every konami game made =o.  35 is such a strange anniversary.
