Title: Reccomend a movie noone's ever heard of..
Post by: crisis on May 22, 2008, 05:34:32 PM
Battle Royale
(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi74.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fi242%2Fzeyno81078%2Fbattle_royale_poster.jpg&hash=1886c6c7235e0c56c13cb0efd01b9a77)
It's sick.

The Science of Sleep
(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fthecia.com.au%2Freviews%2Fs%2Fimages%2Fscience-of-sleep-poster-2.jpg&hash=7a0f0b3b821e0ddb0f2bfcb8a6d2eed5)
Funny movie, not really a comedy but it's really bugged out.. in a trippy way.

Will name more later

Alot of the ones I'm going to mention are more from the fact that they came out before most of us were even born. I saw most of these on AMC, but I am really impressed.

SLEUTH (1972)
(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fculturepulp.typepad.com%2Fculturepulp%2Fimages%2F2007%2F11%2F02%2Fsleuth1972.jpg&hash=519b55beeafb1c559fd93db762b8c33f)

Two of the best actors in history duke it out with wits and cunning in a sly and suspenseful game of cat and mouse. Seriously this is some of the best acting I've ever seen. Twist after twist they pull on eachother 'til the horrible nature of the game is revealed.

NIAGARA (1953)
(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimagecache2.allposters.com%2Fimages%2Fpic%2FCLU%2FC5029%7ENiagara-Posters.jpg&hash=7ed2ca8f1ff0672a1c7e2cf0a429258d)

A film noir in color. I like this movie for its awkward, creepy, quiet mood. And Marilyn Monroe doesn't hurt either ;) She's a lot better than most young actresses of today. Acutally the film's storyboard focuses heavily on the juxtaposiiton of Marilyn's sexy figure with the beautiful, eerie setting of the falls, and the dark premise implied. She's good at playing a little psychotic nympho and the male lead brings the best of that side out in her. It's actually a very dark movie.

SHAFT (1971)
(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fcontent.answers.com%2Fmain%2Fcontent%2Fwp%2Fen%2Fthumb%2F4%2F45%2F200px-Shaft_Movie.jpg&hash=cae1349bdad39942528f8c373cae91c9)

...Speaks for itself I think.... (This is the film that started Blaxploitation)

If you like horror ones, def check out the beyond by Lucio Fulci

one of the best horror films ever made by one of the best italian horror directors of our time.

Battle Royale is the best - BR2 is a decent watch too but not quite as good.

anyway, my votes go to:

No mans land by Danis Tanovic ( cool story about the yugoslavian war and a dude laying on an AP Mine for the whole film )

and ( here I would like to say King Kong Vs Godzilla one of my faves but to cheesy to realy qualify )

My other vote goes to:

The Gods must be crazy - An african film about a bushman who goes on a jorney to throw a bottle of coke off the edge of the world because it has brought evil to his tribe, he gets caught up with some terrorists and has to save a park ranger and some children from being hostages using only good old bushman knowhow!

That's a damn good choice, but I woulda said the second The God's Must Be Crazy.

(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.teachwithmovies.org%2Fguides%2Fgods-must-be-crazy-ii-DVDcover.jpg&hash=c3d9f50f525080f2ebb83265edb6f6b9)

Stars the same cool bushman, but this time he's out to save his two little kids who are accidentally transported on a poaching vessel. Throw in a couple of confused, unprepared tourists and two spiteful foreign militia men from opposites sides who are forced to work together; a bunch of crazy encounters with Africa's wildlife; then mix them all together as they find their paths intertwining in a hilarious vie for surivival on the high savannah, and a growing realization of doin what's right.

There's a hidden message: we're all in this together.

A non-stop-laughs, touching adventure.

nah I think your thinkin' of reanimator bro another awesome 80s classic. The beyond is about this woman who inherits this house in Louisianna and it turns out to be one of the seven earthly gates of hell. All this paranormal stuff starts happening and at the end all hell breaks loose as the gate is fully opened with lots of zombie mayhem.

Actually, he's thinking of From Beyond. Which is awesome, but not as awesome as Re-Animator. Both are by the same director and star Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton.

I'm a fan of campy, gore-filled movies. (Hey, I'm a fan of Troma.) So I'll probably enjoy The Machine Girl, unless it, you know, sucks. Just bought it. Wal-Mart's got it for $12. Gonna watch it tonight.

Here's a trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSpCWJnnWVI) for anyone interested.

Just watched it. Could use some nekkid tittehz. Otherwise a pretty entertaining ride. (Had some nice panty shots at least.) A few slow bits... The dialog and most of the plot elements were definitely corny by design, and some of it made me snicker a lot. There were some major LOL violent moments. Pretty good, and worth the $12 I paid.

K. So this one is veeeeeeery old, but it's also one of the funniest slapstick comedies ever conceived. It was ahead of its time with some of the most memorable gags comedians STILL try to reproduce faithfully, but often fail. If you've never heard of the Marxs Bros, and/or never cared, there's a 99% chance your world will change after seeing this. These are scientifically proven facts ;)

AZUMI

This ones newer, and Japanified. A surprisingly well done and executed story about a young band of ninja assassins who are forced to turn on one another to prove their abilities in order to take on a greater evil. But that was nothing; those left standing are in for the fight of their lives. Full of good martial arts, special effects and art direction. Of course there's a nice touch of anime influence as well, with larger than life villains. Oh yeah, and Azumi ain't no eye-candy slouch neither.

I hope they make a sequel.

I feel like recommending one o' my favorite flicks, one that everyone SHOULD know about: Dellamorte Dellamore, criminally released in the US under the bland and meaningless title Cemetery Man.

(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.best-horror-movies.com%2Fimage-files%2Fcemetery-man-movie-poster.jpg&hash=1f849b526a5800aab91b0465646d5c69)

It's several genres fused into one. It's a romantic surrealistic zombie comedy (romsurzomcom?). If you have no taste for the avant-garde, stay the hell away from this 'cos you'll probably hate me if you watch it.

It's funny, it's touching, it's violent, and it's pretty weird at times. It's also one of the most beautifully shot films I've ever seen.

Also, despite the campiness of the above poster, it's no indication whatsoever of the actual movie's content. And you can buy the DVD from DeepDiscount.com for $6.06, so do it! (And if you wait until this Friday when their 20% off sale is going on, you can save a whole $1.21 off that price!)

English dubs for Italian films usually are done pretty well considering the main actors are American a lot of the time. :] Although supposedly the Italian dubs are overall superior. I just choose not to watch them...like in the case with the "Man with No Name" trilogy, I can't imagine Clint Eastwood's characters being voiced by anyone other than Clint.

I do wish, however, that Anchor Bay would also supply the Italian language tracks on their DVDs. All of Dario Argento and Michele Soavi's films are A-OK in English, but it would be nifty to have the Italian dubs too. In the case of Deep Red, however, it's great that they included the full Italian dub, considering not all of the English dub had been recorded due to cuts to the film's US release. Otherwise, if you watch it in English, it's so jarring when suddenly for certain scenes the voices change and they're speaking a different language. ;D

I wonder if the Blue Underground releases of all those movies contain the Italian voice tracks.

By the way, I really need to see more Lucio Fulci movies. I've only seen Zombie/Zombi 2 (and, if it counts, that horrible atrocity known as Zombi 3). I don't think it's nearly as great as a lot of people I know claim it to be, but it is entertaining. Really gotta see The Beyond one of these days.

Jennifer Jason Leigh is totally spankworthy, and is naked PRACTICALLY ALL THE TIME in Paul Verhoeven's (RoboCop, Total Recall, Basic Instinct) excellent medieval movie Flesh + Blood. Though I can't decide what's more awesome about that movie: J.J.L.'s tits or FREAKING RUTGER HAUER(!) THE GREATEST ACTOR THAT'S EVER LIVED.

I need to see more Cronenberg flicks. Videodrome is excellent and I need to see more of his surrealist horror stuff, but I also love his more "serious" approach with the likes of Spider, A History of Violence, and Eastern Promises.

That is a very weird movie, but I think a lot of gamers would appreciate the refrences, even if it's clear the writers still have a lot to learn about games.

This, I believe, was actually the first movie I saw Jude Law in, not to mention where I was introduced to Jennifer Jason Leigh.

Yeah I agree I bought Demons thinking they would have included the original italian dub as well, to my dismay it was only in English and the english dub is shit and poorly done. I was only out 5 bucks though so I wasn't too dissappointed. I would also like the original dub for City of the Living Dead as the english one I have is okay but it could be alot better.

I haven't seen it, no. But it's a tad difficult to dub Italian films, considering many of the actors are speaking different languages--English, Italian, Spanish, German... They film without sound, or at least that's how it always used to be done. I don't know if things have changed since.

I tried watching The Good, the Bad and the Ugly with the Italian language track, but quickly realized that the subtitles are only for the English dub; they didn't bother to write translated subtitles for the Italian dub, so I figured, "What's the point?"

Oh. You should see Life is Beautiful. It's a comedy/romance set in Italy during the Holocaust. Even if you don't like romances, it's got some hilarious slapstick comedy in there and a lot of gags and stuff.

Here's some of my favorite lesser known movies:

Six String Samurai - Instead of a cold war there was an atomic war in the 50's and the US was decimated.  The new capitol was a place called Lost Vegas and Elvis was the King.  Now Elvis is dead though and they are looking for a new rocker to be king.  Buddy, the main character is on his way there to claim the throne but he has to fight his way through cannibals, the soviet army, a spinach monster, and Death himself, all while keeping some Kid he had saved safe.  This is a great movie with just enough cheese, action, and meta-fiction to make it one of my favorites.

Feast - I don't want to say too much about this movie because I don't want to give any of it away.  But you know those rules that horror movies have established over the years:  Don't kill kids; "Bad" people always get it in the end; The hero never loses; There always has to be some sort of explanation as to the monsters origin.  This movie breaks all of those cliche horror movie rules.

Berry Gordy's The Last Dragon - This is the greatest kung fu movie set in Harlem you will ever see. Sho'nuff!

The Triplets of Belleville - This movie isn't for everyone.  It's a french movie, but there's hardly any dialogue.  It's animated in a very unique style.  And it has awesome music.  It's a little slow paced, so if you're looking for action this isn't your movie.  This movie focuses on more character development and showing those tiny nuances here in there that make up the world.  Think French Miyazaki.

Slither - Another great horror movie.  This one actually came to theaters but it was kind of short lived.  It's a pretty good horror/romance where you feel a little empathy for the monster.

Black Sheep - Think zombie sheep.  You can't go wrong with that.

Wasn't that like a joint venture among Quentin Tarantino, Anchor Bay, and Grindhouse Releasing? For some reason I got this feeling that GR would be re-releasing the movie themselves.

Oh well. I suppose I'll have to pay an absurd price to get this movie. :P Unless I get the not-as-glorified DVD that goes under the name Seven Doors of Death, which I could get for $7 shipped.

Anyway, Danial, Feast is awesome. Totally ridiculous movie. But I don't know what horror movies you're used to, because I've seen quite a few where children are brutally murdered.

Slither is also quite rad. The guy who wrote and directed it also wrote and co-directed the Troma film Tromeo & Juliet, which has a special place in my heart alongside the first and fourth Toxic Avenger movies. TOTALLY classy trash there!

I love me my trashy gore flicks... Anyone seen Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky? That movie is a BLAST!

YEAH! Badass! Martial arts + heavy gore = hilariously good time.

Here's a sampling (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDJKeuN0DLk) for you muthafuckas unfamiliar with it.

One of the best "katana-slashing" action movies that I've seen. It's about a blind masseur who, in his journeys, arrives at a small Japanese town terrorized by a cruel gang.
The masseur turns out to be an amazing swordsman who literally slashes the gang to pieces.

The plot reminds me of the live action movie of Fist of The North Star, which has horrible.

The anime is way better.
Anyway, I don't know if the following movie is pretty popular or not:

It is one of the most interesting movies I have ever seen.
The end was satisfying.

Your image doesn't show up for me, but the image link does when I quoted your post. So yeah, The Shawshank Redemption is one of the most flawless movies ever made. That movie really is a piece of art.

Beat Takeshi's Zatoichi is pretty cool. Really like the cartoony CGI blood effects. It's a fun little movie. The DVD I bought of it came with another movie, Sonatine, one of his earlier films. One of these days I'll have to get around to watching it.

I'm sure everybody on the Internet is familiar with Versus. I just rewatched that last night. Bought the director's cut several years ago, and bought the Ultimate Edition DVD a few months back and finally got around to watching all of it. Aside from the opening sequence, I couldn't really tell what had been added (there's ten extra minutes of footage), but I liked all of what I was seeing. I still feel like the final swordfight at the end drags along and is kind of boring compared to the rest of the action (my brother feels the opposite), but it's still a cool movie.

I nabbed The Warriors at Wal-Mart a few months back when it was $5. Still haven't watched it yet.

I just made a haul over at DeepDiscount.com since their 20% off summer sale is going on. Dunno if any o' you have seen these movies, but I'm thrilled to get 'em. They're mostly trash films, ha ha.

Anita (ohhhh man, Christina Lindberg is bonerfied delicious)
Basket Case 2
The City of the Living Dead
Dario Argento Collection (includes the films Tenebrae, Phenomena, Trauma, The Card Player, and Do You Like Hitchcock?)
Demons
Django
Dust Devil: The Final Cut [5-Disc Collector's Edition]
The Films of Alejandro Jodorowsky (includes La Cravate, Frando y Lis, El Topo, and The Holy Mountain)
Heavenly Creatures
Maniac
Maniac Cop
Nightmare Detective
Repo Man
Slither
A Snake of June
Street Trash [Special Edition]
Visions of Hell: The Films of Jim van Bebber (includes Deadbeat at Dawn, The Manson Family, and all of his short films)

Only one of those I've seen is Slither, which I thought was awesome.

Nightmare Detective and A Snake of June are by Shinya Tsukamoto, who directed one of my absolute most favorite films, Tetsuo: The Iron Man.

(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fsrv14.movie-list.net%2Fsexmaniac%2Fimg%2Ftetsuo1.jpg&hash=9966bf8866094f58b07dd82e3bdef680)

The only cyberpunk movie that is IMO better than this is Blade Runner. Both are wildly different films, however. Basically, this is the first Evil Dead meets Eraserhead (David Lynch's first film, another favorite of mine, a very surrealistic horror film) meets the end of Akira when Tetsuo's body becomes both organic and metal.

It's a wiiildly imaginative film, and I really adore Tsukamoto for the work he put into it. He wrote it, he directed it, he did the cinematography and lighting, the editing, the special effects, and plays one of the lead characters. And the end result is AMAZING. This is seriously one of the most artistic movies I've ever had the pleasure of viewing. I watched it like five times within the first week after buying it.

I'm really looking forward to these two more recent movies he did. I also would really, REALLY love to see his film Tokyo Fist.

Trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1cFJBnc_5c)

Oh MAN that looks good. Too bad in the US it's only had a DVD release by Manga, and it's out of print.

I'd also be interested in seeing Tetsuo II: Body Hammer, though I hear it's nowhere near as grand as the first.

While on the subject, I should mention just how FREAKING INDUSTRIAL the original Tetsuo is. It's basically industrial music in visual form, and it's got a really nice industrial score to accompany it. Just check out the intro (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QkJ3o45yfKQ) and see what I mean.

WHAT THE BLEEP DO WE KNOW!?

(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Furubu.files.wordpress.com%2F2006%2F05%2FWhatTheBleepDoWeKnow.jpg&hash=7c9a0ee43dade1f8e767e790cf58c63d)

A vast amalgam of different philosophical, religious and scientific theories behind everything from time, gravity, dimensions, past lives, worm holes, quantum phyics and mechanics to how we tick and why we feel. A fascinating insight into what we see and especially what we don't. Running the gamut from Einstein's theory on relativity to that of the suppositions of string theory, and even how religion could possibly tie into it all; all presented in an entertaining, balanced and charming live-action narrative with interspersed animations and doccumentary interviews that never get dull.

What the Bleep dares to get your mind ticking and wishes nothing more than for you stop settling for what you're told and start searching for the answers yourself.

What's more, it's shot in my home state of Oregon :) So kinda cool for us :)

Highly recommend. This movie teaches you to keep an open mind about things.

Now, uh, on to happier thoughts. Yep, Clockwork Orange is cool, never losing its ability to shock or mesmerize. The book is so much better though. And as for Gozu, that happens to be one of my all time favorite feel-good movies. ^_^ Nothing beats sitting down with your friends to watch that with glutinous rice and milk for everybody. Yay!

For some truly absurd insanity no one has heard of and those who have wish they hadn't, check out Visitor Q (another Takashi Miike joint - I laughed really fucking hard watching this crack-induced quackfest) and what I like to think of as the unofficial sequel Red Room. If you're as sick of reality TV as I am, you're gonna love this grimace-inducing gem of a film.
Title: Re: Reccomend a movie noone's ever heard of..

One day I'll get around to seeing all of Miike's work. Kind of hard, though, considering he's made so many, sometimes several films in one year. Very busy guy.

I love all the movies I've seen--Dead or Alive trilogy, Audition, Ichi the Killer, Gozu. Good stuff. The next one I'd like to see is Happiness of the Katakuris. Sounds so weird.

I just discovered GreenCine. Netflix-style service, but focusing on more independent-type films. Lots of movies available there that Netflix doesn't have, so I think I'll sign up soon.

I just ordered The Bird with the Crystal Plumage (Argento's first film--seriously, this guy is one of my absolute favorite directors, right up there with Sergio Leone and Akira Kurosawa) and Brain Damage. Looking forward to those along with all the other films I ordered (should hopefully come tomorrow). Brain Damage was made by the guy who did Basket Case and Frankenhooker...both of which are awesome films.

(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fupload.wikimedia.org%2Fwikipedia%2Fen%2Fa%2Fa6%2FBasket_Case.jpg&hash=5ea056e1bba99a521609c091f45494cc)

Suuuuch funny films. The part in Frankenhooker when all the whores blow up from ingesting the super-crack had me rolling on the floor.

Oh, and speaking of Argento, his new film, The Mother of Tears--the final in the "Three Mothers trilogy"--is playing near me next week, one night only. Gotta get a reserve ticket soon, just in case! Don't wanna miss that.

Oh dear lord, Frankenhooker! I still wake up sometimes and hear "Wanna' date?" next to me. - The horror.... Anyway, Miike is definitely a director for the ages. And his filmography is just remarkable. So many great films. Fudoh - The Next Generation is a picture-perfect Manga to movie adaptation, Izo shines as his own Matrix-flavored mind-blower, City of Lost Souls delivers a knock-out punch to the viewer by destroying practically every action movie convention out there, The Way to Fight proves violence can in fact be the most hilarious and sweetest expression of feeling out there, One Missed Call[/i] (the original, duhh) IS Japanese horror at its finest and grittiest, and Zebraman both apes and tops all of Japan's zany super-soldier hero shows masterfully. Even his family fair like The Great Yokai War is great fun to watch. Ahh, I could go on all day here.

Lemme' just say, folks who don't know Takashi Miike do need to go out there and give a coupld of the afore mentioned films a chance. And if you just want to see what a damn good director/cinamotographer/storyteller the man is, look no further than Negotiator. It's not just an excellent Miike flick. It's just a solid, slick, beautiful movie in itself. And I don't even like drama.

I've been meaning to check out the Guinea Pig films for a while. I'm probably gonna get a GreenCine subscription soon, and I think they carry most or all of them.

I watched Battle Royale and Cannibal Ferox last night. The former was good, albeit a little overhyped, and the latter was basically a cheap knock-off of Cannibal Holocaust, but still pretty sweet. I'll admit, the part where the one girl gets hanged up by hooks through her breasts made me laugh.

Gonna go watch Zombi Holocaust now.

Paavo has shoved this thread down to the bottom. >:O

I've been watching a lot of movies this past week. Caught up on a lot I've been meaning to see, like Taxi Driver and Hard-Boiled. Speaking of Taxi Driver, I saw this movie called Hardcore, which was written and directed by the writer of Taxi Driver, and it rocks, so hard. George C. Scott is ultra-badass in it. It's basically about a Christian dude whose daughter goes missing, and he finds out she's entered the world of porno, and during his search for her, he becomes slowly and slowly more aggressive and eventually starts beating the shit out of low-lifes to get his answers.

I watched this two-part TV movie called Uno bianca (White Uno). It's a three-and-a-half-hour detective story/crimer thriller directed by Michele Soavi, the director of Dellamorte Dellamore (Cemetery Man), Deliria (Stage Fright), and La Chiesa (The Church), the only other movies of his I've seen. It was really good, I dug it a lot. :o Another one of his movies, St. Francis, will be coming in the mail from Netflix either tomorrow or Friday. My free trial's almost up and that makes me sad. :( But once it's done with, I'm signing up for GreenCine.com to get my horror and independent movie fix.

Also watched the spaghetti western Django, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I hope Takashi Miike's version, Sukiyaki Western: Django, gets a US release soon, either in theaters or DVD.

Anything with William H. Macy is instant win! XD

He's an awesome guy, too. Did you know he's a volunteer fire fighter?

Which brings me to post this:

FARGO

(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fblogs.msdn.com%2Fblogfiles%2Fjim_glass%2FWindowsLiveWriter%2FFargohomeof.Snow_8BEB%2Ffargo_film%255B1%255D.jpg&hash=6ab4a74334726efd00c5cff7ea9147df)

A foolish car salesman stages his wife's kidknapping to force a ransom, but things quickly turn sour and this dark comedy only grows sadder as Jerry Lundigard's situation grows more desperate and pathetic and he ends up raking in much more than he ever bargained for. With some Oscar-worthy performances by William H. Macy, Francis McDormand and Steve Buscemi, the bitter chill of Fargo, North Dakota just got a lot cooler.

This is one of my favorite movies of the 90s. It has a brilliant, simple message at its core that money is nothing, and crime doesn't pay.

Before the success of South Park, Mat Stone and Juan Schwar -- sorry -- Trey Parker -- made this little number, and it's hilarious. (Well really it was more Trey Parker).

Full of some of the catchiest parodical music, if you liked South Park's Bigger Longer Uncut soundtrack, you'll feel right at home here. In fact the movie starts out with a piece very similar to "Quiet Mountain Town", and coins a strangely addictive phrase that gets repeated throughout the film in hilarious ways. Shpadoinkle!

How can you go wrong with songs entitled: "Let's Build a Snowman," "On Top of You," and "Hang the Bastard?"

With inspired oscar-worthy performances -- lol -- incredible sight and verbal gags, and a tale about Gold-Rush-era injustice, this had film-of-the-year written all over it.  ;D

What's fun is hearing many of South Park's character voices in early form and realizing that Trey Parker is a talented bastard who actually directs, produces, acts, and sings (well) the songs he wrote. Oh and Matt wears a stupid hat, of course.

I really couldn't stop lauhing with this one.

While we're on the subject of martial arts flicks, here is a movie with some of the most spectacular martial stunts I've seen in a long time. Now one of my favorites.

THE PROTECTOR

(Starring Thai newcomer, Tony Jaa)

(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.canmag.com%2Fimages%2Ffront%2Fmovies20063%2Fprotectorposter.jpg&hash=d78eba77e4afb80e9c676be23d0d6439)

Move over, Jackie Chan and Jet Li, there's a new kid in town and he is one badass mother fucker. Tony Jaa (who does all his own stunts) plays a young man from a rural village who grew up within the company of pachyderms and has grown to love them as friends. But poachers don't see things the same way, and when his father is slain and his elephant companion is 'napped away seemingly for ivory sales, his relentless quest for vengeance ensues. And he is RELENTLESS.

Almost like an epic scene from Shenmue, one part of the film has Jaa climbing up the stairs of a multi-story builiding's interior, and dealing with the wave after wave of villains that confront him with each level.... painfully. You'll watch legs break, necks snap, walls crumble and bodies flop over the edge all the way down to their doom. The camera never misses a beat and captures every death with artistic flair. The only thing that could make the scene better is some QTE

Cannibal! The Musical is tits. What a swell film. Bless Lloyd Kaufman for funding that work of art. BASEketball is also good, but despite starring Matt and Trey, it's a David Zucker film, and is more along his style. I'm sure you've all seen Orgazmo...but if you haven't...there's something wrong with you, and you must remedy that.

I finally saw The Beyond. Acquired a brand new, factory sealed copy of the tin edition for $34.50 shipped. :) Swell movie. Also watched Fulci's City of the Living Dead, which is also great.

I watched Orson Welles' F for Fake last night. What an incredibly gifted speaker, poet, actor, filmmaker, painter, etc. This movie is a bit complicated to really explain in a couple sentences. It's mostly all about fakery, charlatanism, trickery, lying, etc. It's a dramatic documentary of sorts; it started out as a documentary on Elmyr de Hory, a famous art forger, based on a biography written by Clifford Irving, and includes interviews with both men. However, during the making of the film, it was discovered that Irving himself was a forger, whose autobiography on Howard Hughes was a fake. Welles was then inspired by all of this to change the movie around, to edit in unique ways and make about fakery and charlatanism in the world all-around. He even for a short bit of the film makes it a biography of himself, and how he has been called a fake all his life, considering he got into acting by appearing at a theater claiming to be a Broadway star, despite never having been on a stage.

It's another one of Welles' revolutionary films, and is perhaps solely responsible for the fast-paced editing we're familiar with today. He intended to make a whole new form of film--and people lashed out at it at the time for being so unconventional. However, now quick cutting is very common. To think that this man has done so much to push on the evolution of movie making. Citizen Kane is solely responsible for dynamic camera angles and movements in films.

Oh, and speaking of Lloyd Kaufman and Troma, I watched Terror Firmer last night as well as the night before. Great movie. :) So much sleaze and raunchy humor. I've come to appreciate it a lot more than the first time I saw it.

Plus, Matt Stone and Trey Parker make cameos at the end.

Yeah the first one is a prequel to the OVA. It's the one I posted earlier. I love it it kicks major ass. The second one is gay though, horrendous plot which takes place after the OVA.

What's Eating Gilbert Grape?

(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.robertosbornefilmfestival.com%2Ffilms%2Fposters%2Fwhats%2520eating%2520gilbert%2520grape.jpg&hash=023dd71f9b8777d04e1e269f292a1f11)

This is one of the few movies I can stand Leonardo DiCaprio in, 'cause to be honest, he gives an amazing performance here, and so young at the time too. Also this was the movie that introduced me to John C. Reily (who has a small part as Gilbert's friend). And of course, Deppo does a great job, as always.

Jonny Depp plays, Gilbert Grape, a young, aimless man who feels trapped by his dysfunctional family, and places the blame on himself for their outcome. Describing his morbidly obese mother as a "beached whale", and constantly having to baby-sit his mentally-disabled brother, Arnie(Leo), who loves to climb the local water tower against the police's warnings, Gilbert loves them too much too leave. With everyone's excitement over Arnie's upcoming 18th birthday (Arnie wasn't expected to live this long), Gilbert faces internal grief over where his family's and his future lies. But he'll get his answer in a young woman (Juliette Lewis) who happens by chance upon his lifeless town, and she'll teach him who he never knew he was, and show him the freedom he never knew he had.

It's depressing as often as it's charming; funny as often as it's sad (there is a lot of funny parts actually), but it ultimately carries a hopeful message and a lesson on what's important in life that anyone can relate to.

Another one of my favorite 90s flicks.

Though it's hardly unknown, I just watched Foxy Brown for the first time last night, and was in love with every minute of it.

And I just ordered these two box sets from DeepDiscount.com (they're having a Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on select Anchor Bay titles):

$30.38 total for thirteen films. :) Can't beat that. Still haven't even seen any of Mario Bava's films, but I hear he's fantastic and highly influential. (My favorite horror director, Dario Argento, was his apprentice; and my favorite movie of his, Suspiria, was apparently done as an homage to Bava and his style.)

Plus, Bava made the film that the greatest metal band on earth culled its name from, MOTHERLOVIN' BLACK SABBATH, DAWG.

Great movie don't let the siskel and ebert comment fool you, this one is one damn good movie that never gets any coverage anymore. Hell I didn't even know what it was and was bored one day and saw it for 2.99 on ebay so I said aw what the hell and I was thoroughly impressed. I'd glady pay 9.00 dollars to see it in a cinema, it's a shame they don't make good scary movies like this anymore. I'm really hoping the new F13th doesn't suck. Big Fan, I'll be going to the midnight showing and I'm really hoping we stop getting shitty Jason movies and this'll set some sort of standard for the future.

It's funny this is a topic about movie's you've never heard and half of the movies in this topic are movies you can probably find at Wal-Mart. So on topic...

So criminally underrated it's not even funny. As funny as Drunken Master and so well choreographed too!

Now that you mention Drunken Master, I've gotta mention Jacky Chan's "The Young Master", one of his first movies which I find even funnier.

I can't find this movie anywhere where I live. It's so rare...

One of the best Slashers ever made with lots of big name actors in it. Jason Alexander from Seinfeld is great.
