Congrats, its impressive that you have this much to show so shortly after Wallachia. Gameplay footage looks great, I'm sure all the Lecarde Chronicles fans will be looking forward to this.

Best of luck!

It does look good from what I saw in the video! I find it kind of interesting that you chose the Rose Cross order. To my knowledge the only Rose Cross order is that of the Rosicrucian (Rose Cross) and they are a Gnostic order and don't have an actual Church or organization like the Christian church does.

Yes! Awesome. Can't wait. A switch port would indeed be pretty cool. Also any chance the main character could use a whip this time around like some famous family? Also, Mig es tu français? Je me suis toujours demandé.

Switch and PlayStation are being planned, however it is still early so don't take that as an official announcement just yet.

Mateo will be able to use a variety of cool weapons that suit the setting. We don't really see the whip as a sensible addition to his arsenal though. Sorry! But hopefully you will enjoy what Mateo has to offer as a character anyways!

Mig vient d'Espagne mais il vit en France.

We are thrilled to be working on an open world game again and to have a chance to explore more ideas we have had for this genre this time with the help of Bobi on our team! We are looking forward to sharing more with you all!

Migami composer Jeffrey Montoya will be returning to the 2dcon video game event August 27-29th in Minneapolis Minnesota!

We will have a booth in the Indie Island where we will be chatting with gamers and giving them an opportunity to try our new game currently in development, Chronicles of the Wolf and also Wallachia: Reign of Dracula which is coming soon to the PS4! We will be sharing photos and social media posts during the convention for those who can't attend.

It's great to be able to participate in events like this again! And it's even more fun when we have a new game to debut!

We are looking forward to a fun and productive summer with more exciting announcements to come!

Stay cool  :-)

The discord channel was pretty dead so it was deleted. It's not really a priority at this time to have one. But it could be useful for COTW later for sharing tips.

Thanks for your enthusiasm! Means a lot! ????

These devs put their soul into their games, and so their games have a soul, it's a great experience to play them, this one might be the best of the bunch, wich is saying something. I continue to think that they should be more popular.

Thanks X! This OST is my biggest effort. Not only is it the largest body of music I've made, but it has been played almost all by hand, which elevates the emotion in the music a lot. This song definitely has a jazz fusion feel. I've been inspired by the diversity in the sotn OST and also the Italian horror soundtrack band from 70's, Goblin.

It was also an honor to have Oscar Araujo (lords of shadow composer) guest compose a couple songs for the OST. What he did fits really nicely.

This is our best game without a doubt. It's been by far the most difficult dev cycle we've ever experienced. But we can't wait to finally share it with you guys. It brings a lot of new things to the table, while celebrating our past works and inspirations.

Thanks guys!

@Belmontoya/Mig: Excited about Chronicles of the Wolf. Been enamored with Lecarde Chronicles 1 and 2 for years, watching some vids and listening to the fantastic soundtrack on Youtube while doing art. Because of concerns about downloading freeware, I stopped myself from playing the games until just recently. I have cleared Lecarde Chronicles 2 100% and am around three quarters through Lecarde Chronicles 1. Even with having a few things spoiled, these games, especially Lecarde Chronicles 2, surpassed my high expectations. I am not easily impressed, either.

Philosophically, they were what I wanted from the Bloodstained Kickstarter. Not to say Bloodstained and its spinoffs weren’t enjoyable, but these games are bold, euphoric experiences. They don’t feel real, honestly, with how much they get right for me. They address a lot of my concerns and complaints about the way Castlevania has been over the last roughly twenty years. Talk about feast after famine for Castlevania. Unlike the direction I see going on with the Dead Cells DLC, these two games get to the heart of Castlevania as a whole. I don’t think saying “Metroidvania” does them justice. While Lecarde Chronicles 2 obviously uses much more from Metroidvania, and I want to say it’s the best Metroidvania-based Castlevania, it defines itself. Lecarde Chronicles 1 is like a mix of Simon’s Quest, Belmont’s Revenge, and Rondo of Blood, with just a touch of Symphony of the Night. Lecarde Chronicles 2 is a fully realized Simon’s Quest with Symphony of the Night as a supporting structure. Also, I sense some Haunted Castle and Castlevania 64 influence in these in terms of atmosphere and “shock” moments.

To me, here’s what makes “Migavania” different in my mind:

1.)   It brings in more consequential, varied platforming, horizontal and vertical.

2.)   Experience points are not essential.

3.)   Stat boosts have instant purpose to the game progression, making upgrades and money acquisition more rewarding.

4.)   Areas feel distinct and cohesive, and they do not overstay their welcome.

5.)   The game includes genuine “spooky,” “unnerving” horror moments.

6.)   The game progression has momentum and feels meaningful, especially through the use of visual and text-based foreshadowing.

7.)   There are thoughtful, contextual visual and text-based puzzles beyond just lock-and-key progression that create an air of investigative mystery.

8.)   The game continues to challenge with new obstacles, objectives, and puzzle types even as late as 95% into the game.

9.)   The world feels organic, and the music supports this brilliantly with how often it changes with variations on themes and/or new songs, but also knowing when to switch to no music or just ambient sounds.

10.)    Bosses have a satisfying old-school pattern recognition.

I could write a massive essay on these games. These are the kind of games I always wanted to make. They are now among my favorite games in any franchise, and they have jumped right to the top tier of Castlevania games in any genre. Konami should really not ignore what was accomplished with these games. But the ten things I noted above were key because they weren’t afraid to break what’s been expected by Symphony of the Night. I know Chronicles of the Wolf is bringing back experience points, but I hope the game doesn’t become less rewarding as a result. Without experience points, exploration and finding items became that much more important and satisfying in the gameplay loop.

I have to say, the music news you are sharing for Chronicles of the Wolf is very encouraging. It really sounds like you’re building off the philosophies in the Lecarde Chronicles 2 especially. Thanks for doing all this. You’ll be amused to know that I’ve found myself humming songs from Lecarde Chronicles 2—Efrain’s theme, the Caged Corpse boss, and Illusionist boss being some. And that University theme was a real gem. Just in general, the way you played to the moments, even subtle ones, was so effective. Early on, the way that cursed inn has an unsettling overture before you actually break into its lower sections and the Castlevania IV Stage 4 remix starts—so awesome. Your Flooded Basement track has that nice watery feel to it that jazz/blues creates. The only part that I feel off on is around 1:03, it hangs on a set of notes, and my ears are expecting it to go up like a note or octave at some point in variation to build up that part, but it stays there a little long before transitioning to the next part without a slight variation for the mind to travel with.

I’m thankful that CotW is being made, and grateful for the Lecarde games. Regardless of how Chronicles of the Wolf turns out, the Lecarde games have ended up as landmark experiences for me, reminding me why I love games. They go way beyond emulating a style; they built something new from what has been, honoring it but expanding it quite a bit. I really hope Chronicles of the Wolf has those risky “wow!” moments from the Lecarde games where you get a little nervous but also intrigued—things like the Book of Caged Souls, the time-distortion puppet show, the Death Wall, the gravestone numbers vault, the solution to the Neptune Helmet riddle, the HEAVENS letter trick, the whole Anna story, the Death Room, Efrain’s “funeral,” Jeanne’s trap, the Hell Picture, the Illusionist, the red-fogged rooms, the Spiritualists’ meeting room, the magic mirrors reveal…just so many mind-blowing moments. (And that you had to wait for some to reach fruition—creating a big mystery--was especially interesting.) Even in Lecarde 1, the Pillar boss and the curtain rising of Wilhelm Von Viltheim and Liese Von Viltheim’s atmospheric battle. Just gaming at its best for me—so immersive and artistic. There came a point where I was assuming I’d “seen it all” in Lecarde 2, and then the game just kept topping itself.

Wishing you success and I’m hoping Chronicles of the Wolf will be able to maintain what Lecarde Chronicles 1 and 2 did without being tempted to just follow modern trends of what a “Metroidvania” “should” be. We already had a long run of games trying to be Symphony of the Night, and that’s not what’s needed. Keep being bold and doing your own thing. It’s hard to put into words just how much happiness these games have elicited, and I’m looking forward to seeing what Chronicles of the Wolf does. Honestly, it’s my most-anticipated game. Thanks!

A few odds and ends:
- I know you said no whips, which I’m sad about, but I do feel like the Super Castlevania IV grapple-point swinging mechanic is something that could have been explored in this new effort. Still, the hanging rings with air dashing and The Adventure rope-climbing in Lecarde 2 was still satisfying.

- I really liked how bosses like Anna and the Illusionist spoke with you during the battles. Very memorable.

- The idea of a “journey” in the Lecarde games, with plenty of outdoor areas and a variety of indoor areas, not just one big castle, is the best way to do these kind of games in my opinion.

- I was really impressed with a lot of backgrounds in Lecarde games. I hope that subdued moodiness/grittiness, and things like the fog effects, return in Chronicles of the Wolf.

- I really like the the Belmont strut pacing in the Lecarde games, and the jumping, especially the double jump with the flip animation, just feels so good.

- There was a hiccup in some turning from left to right to attack and while crouched in Lecarde 2. That and the air dash cancelling out with directional inputs at times were the only major control flaws in that game for me, but I learned how to cope and they couldn’t take away from the brilliance within.

- Liked the encounters with Alucard, not making him the focus, but giving some extra narrative energy.

- Did need to remap the controls to make it feel more natural.

- I am writing this in a hurry, so hopefully it’s coherent. Lol.

- As I alluded to, I've been developing a gothic horror concept since the late '90s, and the Lecarde games pushed so many buttons I've been wanting to. I was inspired to do this art related to my series because of the Lecarde Chronicles music and visuals before I even played the games: (https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/pw/AIL4fc9L-_ingVPvdtjKDHduhQELcC7dcBwunmZGWYf20mbPzafbDJu57-iFGpU03sB3sL5gcDqS8ZfVmcepuW-XD7hS4f9eKTbwevNTfewlgeAnp3s_ZFEiPhKOgsJIvTPEvKX27uZdoXTtjfTDO5swXzPj=w768-h543-s-no)

If the above isn't a compliment/praise, then I don't know what is! Good job RichterB  :o

My only gripe with those games is the fact that there is no actual controller support built in. LC2 maybe (I haven't checked recently) but definitely not LC1. JoytoKey has always been a no-go for me because I just can't get the damned program to work right and I'd rather spend my precious time playing these two games. Instead I have to cross my arms over each other just to get my hands on the right spots on the keyboard. And let me tell you after a few minutes the cramps start to set in. Then it just becomes painful. In this day and age button configurations/controllers are a must. I'll probably get reprimanded again because this is a song they've heard more then once from me, lol. But I genuinely, really want to play these two titles and not miss out on the experiences and enjoyment that everyone else is having.

@Richter B

Thanks so much for those kind words. We've been with our heads down working our tails off for a long time so it's really encouraging to know that our work means something to people. We make the games that we would want to play as CV fans, classic horror fans, and platformer fans in general. We're not interested in following trends. We just try to get better at what we do, making Migami games.

Btw, I'm humbled that my music inspired you to create that cool artwork! I love the Day of the Dead aesthetic!

I'm not sure what the future holds for after this. We are getting old and this game has pushed us to the breaking point. But we've given it our all for COTW and it's everything we wanted to do with LC3. Soon we will share our best work with you all! :-)

@X

I hope you can find a way to give the LC series a playthrough. They are older games, and I personally wasn't a part of the testing phase back then (I should have been). We have learned since then that we need bigger groups for testing. I never had issues with controller support after the game came out, but I'm aware that some other people did. Many apologies if your complaints weren't given a fair acknowledgement. Those games were a long time ago and I wasn't always kind or professional back then because I was inexperienced and had a lot to learn.

There are some awesome people who are working to improve functionality for LC2. Ace has been posting updates on that here on the dungeon forum. Hopefully it will be possible for you to have a good experience with it! :-)

Someday it'll happen. I'll just have to be patient until a program comes out that will eliminate all the hoop-jumping that is still required for JoytoKey. As I've also said in the past, I'm good at the waiting game  :)

@Belmontoya

Great to hear. I'm really glad I was able to express to the creative team how impactful these games were, especially Lecarde 2. LC3 definitely sounded like it had an interesting premise, and I am glad to hear you putting everything into CotW. Kind of surprised that this could be the swansong, but you've made your mark as far as I'm concerned. Like I said, excited for this one. Few extra notes I want to add to what I said before:

- The way you made sort of "sequel" songs to some of the Castlevania classics for different times of day, but made them original songs, was so seamless and fun. They are really catchy and atmospherically powerful, like Rise of the Morning Sun and Dimming of the Holy Light...etc. That was something so fun about Lecarde 2, where there were mini dungeons and main areas, and none of them felt like copy-paste in visuals or music. It made the game feel alive. New sights and sounds were always around the corner, and that they could even be interactive, like going into background areas by pushing up or breaking things off the background was great.

- In terms of testing and polish, I feel like CotW has great bones to build on. Lecarde 1 is definitely more rough around the edges/NES hard than Lecarde 2 in things like enemy placement and transitions, and I think more casual gamers would have an easier time getting into Lecarde 2 than 1, but I still love both and they each have different strengths to enjoy. In an alternate reality, a Lecarde Chronicles Collection for Switch would be like the best of all 2D Castlevania worlds. (Still waiting for Konami or someone to build off Castlevania 64 in the 3D space.)

- Aura Blast gameplay was so cool. Especially when it played into the puzzles. And the way the intriguing Von Viltheim family was carried into the second game from the first was genius.

- I think when I first heard about CotW, I was concerned it was just about being chased by a werewolf in the vein of a Resident Evil 3's Nemesis.

- Keep doing your thing! Sounds like you're in the home stretch and really bringing your vision to life! There were times in Lecarde 2 where I sarcastically said, "Stop it! This is too good!" Like when you arrive in the second town and the villagers and world give you so much new information that's so intriguing--the
(click to show/hide)

- Thanks for the like on my art!

@X

I had no trouble getting my Rock Candy off-brand XBox 360 controller, when plugged into the USB drive, work for these games. I didn't need any extra software. Lecarde 1 I had to be extra careful on downloading since it wasn't on Mig's site anymore and it was reported as carrying malware on some other sites. Lecarde 1 also does not have rebindable controls on the controller, so I had to live with the controls however the controller picked them up. Pause button would only work on the keyboard. Everything else worked, though, and I've gotten used to it. For Lecarde 2, I remapped things like this, and it worked great: X-attack, A-jump, Y-Aura Blast (magic), and B-Special. I eventually chose L and R for the Menu and Map because I couldn't remember them on Start and Select. lol. All the same, wish you luck. I waited until this year to play these games. As I said above, though, Lecarde 2 is significantly more polished than Lecarde 1. Lecarde 1 has some of that NES hard quality to it at points. Not saying Lecarde 2 is a pushover, but it's more fair and balanced.

I have an XBOX One controller for my PC. Not sure if it will do the trick though I should give it a try. As for LC1 I downloaded it a while ago (like when it was originally released) so that's all good. LC2 is still going through some improvements so I can snag that when it's finalized. I'll also want to check out CotW once it becomes available on the market  ;D

What is the general gap of time expected from when this game launches on Steam to when it could launch on Switch? I'm excited to jump back into a Migavania, and I'm more of a console person than PC person. All the same, continued luck. Know that your work is anticipated and appreciated!

It's hard to say exactly what the gaps will be, but they shouldn't be nearly as long as was the case with Wallachia. Right now here is what we are looking at for platforms and estimated costs.

Steam
Nintendo Switch w/physicals
PS4/5 w/physicals
Xbox (digital only but Gamepass is being considered)

Chronicles of the Wolf will likely be sold for around $19.99 digitally with a planned Migami Monsterverse bundle that will include Wallachia: Reign of Dracula and Chronicles of the Wolf for $24.99 digitally.

The game is very large and most people will get a lot of gameplay out of it.

For the soundtrack it has been determined that it would be impossible to fit it all on vinyl without it costing a fortune and being at minimum 4 discs, so for COTW compact disc will be the only physical for the OST. We will be much faster with getting it onto Spotify this time though!

We are hoping to still make the last quarter of 23 but it's possible we could run a little behind. We both have been struck with some very difficult real life stuff which is making our home stretch of development very arduous.

But just know that the game has been testing very well! It will be worth the time! 🙂

Thanks!

YES! Migami Team, I saw this reposted on Twitter/X. Thank you! I put it on my wishlist, too, even though I really want it more for Switch than Steam overall. You are knocking it out of the park. I don't know that there's a game on the market that's quite like this, and I hope you get the accolades you deserve after your amazing Castlevania fan games.

As promised, it is definitely, uncompromisingly a successor to the Lecarde games. I am sort of struggling right now in terms of how much I play of the demo versus waiting for the full game, because it is sucking me in just like your Castlevania games. You do integrated world-building so well. I honestly soured on Metroidvanias by 2007-ish, but you just do something different that makes it work. I think it's that you totally respect the idea of a tough "action-platformer" within the exploration and RPG elements, your map layouts have variety with verticality and angles to them, and you make the world feel natural and alive. (In some ways, you fully realize the promise of Simon's Quest or a 2D version of Castlevania 64, both of which I was a fan of.) There aren't a lot of games where I so naturally link with the flow of the gameplay loop without getting tired of it. It feels like a living storybook. All this to say, I'm falling in love with your work on this; it's what I want out of gaming. Here are my reactions so far, with spoiler tags. In terms of progress,

All this said, thank you, thank you, thank you...and merci, merci, merci, for all the work you've put into this. It's going to be such a joy to experience.

And I did get your previous message about the port timing. Thank you. I'm someone who will either for sure get a digital or physical copy for Switch. It just depends on the wait time. Like 100%, you've already got my money on this game in some form! :D I won't rule out a Steam purchase, either, but I'd just really like to be able to play this on the go and Switch is sort of where I try to curate my favorite games.

I must say, your note of a Wallachia combo pack was interesting. I don't see Wallachia on the eshop anymore, and I was coming around to giving it a try. I liked the aesthetic of that game, I just never jumped on it because I couldn't quite make out what kind of game it was and wasn't sure if it was for me. For some reason, I took it as an arcade shooter/beat'em-up, and it sort of is, but it's really just more of a blend of home-console Contra and classic Castlevania...sort of almost in the vein of Ghosts 'n Goblins in a way. Anyway, I'm considering giving it a chance, but Chronicles of the Wolf is the first priority and my number one most anticipated game.

EDIT: Okay, beat the demo. Such a great place to end the demo! Totally sells it. Excellent boss design all the way around with the fight that ends the demo. My previous questioning about its art versus Lecarde 2 has largely been quashed with the latter parts of the demo. I think whatever the difference is, it's just a slight stylistic tweak, but it's still very detailed and atmospheric and later areas may prove to me it's all just a matter of perception, like an optical illusion. Great stuff. The music, too, I've heard more of those creepy interludes just where they should be! Love it! I tested out the jump slash hitch a bit more. It seems to only happen occasionally if you try to slash twice in the air, or downward slash. It's barely noticeable, though. Wishing you all the best!

Thank you so much for your thoughtful response! We've taken note of your concerns! We were already aware of some, and the others like "up to go in other areas" do get used later, so don't worry.

We wanted to make LC3. That wasn't possible, so all of our heart and energy that would have gone into that is now the next chapter of our own Migami Monsterverse, Chronicles of the Wolf.

While we are aware that LC2 was a little bit of lighting in a bottle, we can assure you that COTW is easily our biggest, most refined, and best game.

We've put all our heart and all we have to give into this game and we can't wait to finally share it with you all!

And don't worry the game definitely gets much darker and more intense as you go!

Wallachia is due to be back up some time this month on the eShop! We will notify everyone when it is back! We're really relieved it's finally being restored. Thanks!

That medley has it all! The creepy buildup, the moody but adventurous melody, and then the ominous boss theme (preceded by one more spooky ambient piece). I was so happy to hear the boss music included. I was going to see if I could find it to listen to because I didn't realize this was a medley at first. I REALLY like that boss tune. It has weight and momentum to it. One of the things that was so cool about Lecarde 2 was how many music change-ups there were (including individual boss themes!) and how they played to the scenes at hand so immersively. I think it's part of what makes Migami's work so organic-feeling.

I've been hyping up your past and current work to a friend, and I hope there's enough of those crazy, unique moments similar to Lecarde 2 like the time-altering puppet show, so that this friend can see how amazing and creative your game design is.

Also great to hear Kira is back. She was Jolyne Cujoh in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, too! Still have to get to Wallachia. It's on my list, but don't want to force it in the middle of some other titles I'm playing right now. I want to be able to appreciate it. I'm curious how much it connects to Chronicles of the Wolf. You mention elsewhere it's a prequel in the universe, but as I understand it Wallachia is more reality-based--i.e. no zombies, etc. Also, you mentioned some kind of combo pack of the two games before. Is that a digital thing? Physical? Just trying to figure that out too.

Good luck with everything. Excited about every little announcement. The music is not to be underestimated on this.

Picked up Wallachia: Reign of Dracula as I wait. The game in motion on the Switch looks much better than it does in videos. The sprite work is really incredible. I really appreciate how big the sprites are, too. It's a very well made game that is as advertised. It sort of reminds me of a beefed up version of a game I'd find in an arcade in the 90s. I think the variety of scenarios is nice.

I've made it to Level 6, but then I had to call it a day. (Been a while since I played a game where you have to start over from scratch--which produced a bit of anxiety--but I know that it wouldn't really make sense to have a save system in a game like this. Well, maybe a temporary save like in Harmony of Dissonance would have been nice, but I can respect the vision. And with what I've learned, I know I can get back to where I was quicker. This is like my Contra III and Super Ghouls N Ghosts days.) [EDIT: There is a difficulty-based Stage Select after you've beaten levels. Problem solved. This will be great for working on Trophies, too.] I like how there are bonus modes and trophies to keep some replay value on a game that, by design, will not be too long.

The voices and sound design are really good, and the music is fitting. I don't know if a specific song has totally grabbed my attention yet (maybe Stage 1 a bit), but I can see them growing on me. I think the special helper characters' powers are sort of more limited than I would like because you have to have so many gems to use any of them. Getting to Power Level 2 especially on any regular basis seems out of the question. I'm still getting the hang of switching between arrows in spots and understanding their properties. The addition of a sword is cool, and I like how there are some strategy elements in terms of the keys in the levels and such. (I'm always wondering about the rewards of saving a prisoner versus opening a chest.) The Tower Boss and the War Dragon were very clever, and Dragomir takes the award for coolest design in a game with great art direction. I love how the stages evolve in terms of day and night or weather, or how you go into a well in one of the stages. It's kind of fun to see Migami's take on a more straightforward action game. It has hints of your work on the Lecarde games, but is in a different context.

For some reason the resolution on the title screen and opening cinema seem less than the actual game, but it's not a big deal. The story is well directed and told for what it is.

Anyway, the game deserves a lot of credit. I don't know how it ended up doing, but in terms of quality, it's easily in the conversation with the best indies and deserved credit. It is honestly a much better game than I expected when I first saw the screenshots and trailers. So that's my misjudgment for having certain expectations. I think for me, personally, I would have liked to have seen more supernatural elements, but I know that this was intended to be more of a historical fiction take on the whole Dracula story. That said, I wonder how this ties into Chronicles of the Wolf. Maybe Christian starts the Rose Cross Knights or something? It feels like a separate universe so far. Maybe Elcin's wolf helper is connected somehow, too. All that said, solid, fun, polished game you should definitely be proud of. Do not doubt that you know what you're doing in terms of game design. This is good stuff, even in a different genre. Congrats on getting to flex your creativity on an original IP like this and sticking to your vision for it before Chronicles of the Wolf.

Thanks so much for checking out Wallachia!

As you discovered, you can re-visit any stage you've reached anytime later by the stage selector in the top right of the tutorial screen. It's not in the best spot and we apologize for that. But glad to see that you figured it out!

Because it was our first commercial game, the goal with Wallachia was to do a fun, more simple action game that would honor the great the 16 bit era Castlevania and Contra games (Sonia Belmont at the same time), and present Dracula in a different way than you would expect in his more historically aligned origin era. We wanted to honor those games, without merely cloning them.

While Wallachia stays pretty close to history for its duration, it does, like a prelude,  introduce supernatural elements and has hints of possibilities that could come.

Chronicles of the Wolf is a few hundred years later, where the events of Wallachia are legend, and the supernatural has become apparent reality.

Thanks so much for your feedback!

Is @Emppixel from Wallachia doing any work on Chronicles of the Wolf? Just curious. Wallachia really is a beautiful game--both backgrounds and sprites. And I didn't pick up on the Sonia Belmont connection before (I can see it now), but even so, Elcin is a really cool character. I don't even need the Miriam skin because the default design is that good. I'll keep an eye out for the supernatural hints near the end. Got to Stage 7 today.

Wallachia is growing on me more by itself. Little things like collecting life extensions in levels, blocking projectiles with the sword, or learning which arrows to use in certain scenarios add more depth than just an arcade run-and-gun shooter. And Stage 6--the platforming in that was definitely not a simple arcade shooter; lots of thinking needed. Also, while I've only gotten 60 gems once, I can pretty steadily get to 30 at least once per level. Maybe the wolf could have been 20 and Radu starts the 30, could have been an alternative. All the same, this is just a game that you have to return to more to understand its nuances. I can see it being in my rotation for a while with the different modes/variations it has. Especially now that the pressure is off to do a perfect run of seven levels to experience it all. Plus...it looks so good!

I've been seeing the drip of info on Twitter recently, and I'm so happy to hear things are progressing well! I've been thinking that Q1 2024 was getting tight and that an announcement of one kind or another would be coming...but thankfully it wasn't the Metroid Prime 4 kind of announcement. :-)

Still my number one most anticipated game. I can't wait for this one! The Lecarde games were joyful, healing experiences, Wallachia was a fun one, and I expect this to be gaming euphoria. Thank you for all your efforts!!!

EDIT: Honestly, if this doesn't come out on Switch right away, I might just end up getting the Steam version and then Switch down the line. I'm really curious about the idea of an updated demo. Wonder how much has changed, especially with regard to the hit box/pattern of the first skeleton boss.

The title theme for Chronicles of the Wolf was created by guest composer Óscar Araujo.

Óscar Araujo is known for his role as sole composer of the Castlevania Lords of Shadow trilogy!

I don't particularly have a lot of fondness for the Lords of Shadow trilogy as Castlevania games, but cool to see this contribution. It's a nice piece. I never listened to the whole thing in the demo, so this gave me an opportunity to appreciate it. Does that mean this theme will have iterations/callback cues during the game by Montoya? Or used during narrative text screens with Robert Belgrade? Or is it just a title screen thing? No worries either way.

CotW/LC2 Game Questions:

-I've been replaying Lecarde 2 and hyping up Wolf to a friend, and I'm wondering something. If you addressed this before, my apologies. In Servigny Mansion, fairly early in the game, you already have what I consider some signature Migami moments:
(click to show/hide)
These ideas multiply over the course of the game,
(click to show/hide)
These are not things you generally see in a lot of modern games or Metroidvanias. Some consider them too obtuse or cheap...but I think they are amazing and make the world feel alive and engaging. The amount of/variety of consequential platforming and the aforementioned oddities/curiosities make Lecarde 2 much more than a standard Metroidvania. Can I still expect to see these kind of interactive brain-teasers/surprises/jump-scares in Chronicles of the Wolf? Or is it going to feel more traditional overall like Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night?

-Was Castlevania 64 and/or Legacy of Darkness a piece of inspiration for the Lecarde games and/or Chronicles of the Wolf? As a fan of the N64 entries, I sometimes sense some of that vibe and sense of puzzles. I definitely noticed the musical cues by Montoya from the N64 games.
Title: Re: CHRONICLES OF THE WOLF

@RichterB

Thanks! Oscar's theme is reprised by both composers at different points in the game. 👍

Expect this game to be the most signature Migami game of them all but with a much better balance and presentation. This is a Migavania!

We take inspiration from all eras of Castlevania. There is some music that has similar vibes to cv64 but the inspiration for the wolf was the history of the beast of Gevaudan and the Brotherhood of the Wolf film, and not so much Cornell from Legacy of Darkness.
