Title: Dungeon Geography (The Old Map Thread)
Post by: Think Tank on November 01, 2007, 11:49:24 PM
(https://i.imgur.com/8kDcTeN.gif)

After finding out that a fellow Dungeon poster went to the same school I did, I started to wonder who else out there is in the vicinity (I'm from Phoenix). Not only that, but this website has members that span the globe. I thought it would be cool to draw up a visual representation of how far the Dungeon's reach is. Here is an animated map showing over 200 Castlevania Dungeon members who have added themselves to this creation!

This thread used to be updated since 2007 but is no longer accepting submissions as of 2018. Thanks!

I should also note to all of those who are new to this thread that The Map has been around since January of 2006 on the old forum. Feel free to continue the discussions as before. And while it lasts, you can view the old thread HERE (http://forumplanet.gamespy.com/off_topic/b48310/2951989/p1/?468).

The map has evolved over time, growing in size and population.

The Castlevania Dungeon now has a GOOGLE MAP (http://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/index.php?action=googlemap) for super accurate pinpointing of your location. Update your location on that map from your profile page!

If anyone would like anything modified or removed from the text file, please PM me. Thank you.

Wow, I hadn't realized all those European entries had made it all bright now in the Europe section, wow.

I was so used to seeing it just bright in the USA area.

Question:
Do they ever teach/tell you guys why it's pronounced "ArkanSAW" instead of "ArKANSAS"?  After all, KANSAS is pronounced "Kansas" so why isn't ArKANSAS pronounced the same way?

I've always wondered.

You know, I really don't understand it either. I know I've never been told. I'm sure it has something to do with the history of the state and how it got its name, but although they give us Arkansas History all through school(most boring class ever BTW), I don't think they ever explain that.

I want to look into it now... :-\

In Reply to Topic about Girls here:

Let's see... the ones that I've seen the most (at THIS forum) are:

Clara
Laina
Sindra
MaddiChan
Akira
Rane Aria
Kamirine
Raheena
Marfisa

I'm pretty sure Rovena is female, too... and I think Pesmerga, as well.  There are others, but I hardly ever see their posts, or I do not know whether they are female or not.

I think that's about it, for this forum.

Updated the map by adding 3 more people. First update of 2010!

One of the new features of this new forum is the ability to embed a flash file... or at least it teases you with the option. I haven't been able to get it to work properly, but if I do get it to work, I will replace this animated GIF map with a fully interactive Flash animation version.

Maybe someone can help me out? I clicked the insert flash button that appears after you start a reply. It gives you a height and width and a spot to include a url. I tried this, but all it does is produce a text hyperlink, I need to be able to embed the SWF within the thread to make this work... Otherwise it's animated gifs forever. Booo.

Here's what I entered:

Code: [Select]
[flash=850,1044]http://bloodyzombie.homestead.com/files/map.swf[/flash]
This is what I get: http://bloodyzombie.homestead.com/files/map.swf But it should look more like this (http://bloodyzombie.homestead.com/files/map.html).

That's just a testing animation. I'm not going to finish the full version until someone can help me figure out what I'm doing wrong in my forum code. Thanks guys!

In the future, forum problems like this one should go on the "Possible Forum problems" sticky.
Looks like in the 2nd pic, the map is being resized, possibly to fit in the post?
I changed the limit on picture sizes, but I'm not sure if that affects the flash sizing.  I might have to investigate that further.

ATTENTION!
The map thread is great!
However, with the new SMF 2.0, we are able to do this in a more efficient fashion using our new.... MEMBER MAP!
Up on the top bar, there's now a new Member Map.  Members are encouraged to add their location on the map.

Should be a nice continuation of this thread.

EDIT:
I added myself at a Castle-like location in my state, near the university I used to go to. ;)

View the member map by going to "Member Map" (right on the upper bar).

That now makes two maps I have added myself to, this one, and Think Tank's (wherever the hell he may be these days).

So I added myself on the map.
Wow, Castlevania has fans in Morocco? That's f*cking awesome!
Lol yeah it's pretty cool. I was playing video games since I was a kid, and CV in particular , so it's not that weird. And you would be surprised at the amount of gamers you can find here  in Morocco. I'm just obsessed by Castlevania ^^. That's why i said I'm  the number 1 CV fan in Morocco. I'm pretty sure there's a lot of cv fans in here, but I don't think there can be someone other than myself that's so obsessed by CV .
You might think that owning a console in here is hard, since well we're not that rich as a country, but it's not the case. Other than the legal ways to buy a console, we also have one of the largest black markets in the world, and you can find any game or  console you want . You just need the money for it  ;D.

The new member map feature is excellent. I added myself just now. Sorry I haven't been around much lately. Been working on a film for the last 7 months. In a few weeks when it's over I will stop by and catch up with you all. I will also dig through this thread and add all the new entries to the Castlevania-themed map on the first page of this thread as well.

Miss you all.

The thread is here out of nostalgia, as now we've got our own "Member Map" which you can set up in the profile.
I'm sure when ThinkTank has a chance he'll update the CV-looking map in page1 of this thread though. :D

Guys, quick question. I may not be on the right board for this, but I don't know where to ask. In the forum, how do you give respect to other members? Maybe it's a dumb question, but I just can't seem to find the way to do it.

Welcome to the forum!

You can add respect by clicking the plus sign at the upper right hand side of the post.

But you need more posts in order to do this. I had the same question when I registered here, but was too lazy to ask :).

It's a measure used to prevent people from making new duplicate accounts just to pad their own respect.
...though it seems some people are still doing this.  How sad.

Thanks for keeping this map relic alive more than 8 years since the original post (http://forumplanet.homestead.com/mapthread/map1.html). I just updated the map on page 1 (http://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/index.php/topic,286.0.html) to 239 members.

See you all around.

It's OK, this is a Staked thread so it'll sometimes have new posts.
Not sure when ThinkTank will update the map, but we have now the Google Map plugin so you can add yourself if you so wish.
