Title: Noticed somthing about Rondo of Blood's Op
Post by: Guy Belmont on May 07, 2018, 12:39:07 PM
I was just looking over stuff  for that fan project I'm working on you know,  looking in to whip designs and just aesthetic of CV Game by game,  and other media.  But then I came across this.

The long black part seems to be flexible, and it reminds of this,
(https://i.imgur.com/YF9slif.jpg)

The handle forms in to a long stork as it reaches the thong of the whip. That stork looks  similar to the top of Richter's whip. And as we know  the Vampire Killer can go from leather to chain, its sort of like a call back to its old self.

And thats cool cos when they were making Rondo of blood, it was like they were saying "Hey lets make the top Leather so its like a call back to its roots"

And i wonder if IGA picked that sort of whip (to me its always looked like a stockwhip in this game, and that ties nicly to older artwork of the whip)
But like I said I think he picked it cos it too resembled  the top of the whip seen in RoB and again another called back.

And I know that artwork from RoB has it looking hard like its made of steel, but you can never really go by the artwork.
As Juste is seen holding a Leather whip in  most  of the artworks. When infect in game its clearly a chain whip. So one can't really read to much in to Artwork and what not.

It also reminded me of these bullwhips too,

and that style of bullwhip could have been what inspired the RoB team to make the top of the whip.

But yeah just wnated to share that, as i thought it was cool.

I don't mean to rain on your parade, but that "flexible" section on the whip appears to be just a graphical artifact/effect to enhance the illusion of movement, not a homage or reference or anything of the sort.

I mean, there are more images of Richter, many more, that either don't feature this section, or DO feature it, but have it be rock solid and metal-looking.

It's an interesting detail to notice, but it's very inconsistent with all other official Richter art out there. Here's three examples, one from the box art, and two from the game's pixel art itself:

it's not even a reference and is just a key piece of how a whip is constructed due to the impact it has on flexibility and force generation

Well it does look like its bending. I mean really going for it.
And looking again  I don't really get the sense of movement, the chain shows us that. so I took it that they wanted it to be made of something flexible.
I mean I'm not trying to say that my idea is bullet proof as its not.

its just one of those odd things

I'm not seeing this carried across to Sotn and DXC's official artwork for Richter, where in both he wields a leather VK. It seems like it wasn't intentional.

Richter's vampirekiller is made entirely of metal save for the cork/wood handle grip. The only part about it that is flexible is the chain itself.

That works great for me, as I can use it in my fan work, so it can now be my call back  ;D

But yeah this was really the ramblings of feverish mind. I tend over analyse castlevania, especially when it comes to the Vampire Killer.
