So, a new American/Japanese co-production of a Vampire Hunter D CG animated tv series has been announced, with both Kikuchi (author of the novels) Kawajiri (guy behind the second movie, Bloodlust) on board with the project on the Japanese side, along with Taliesin Jaffe (of Hellsing) on the American side.  What do people think of this?

I really hope that they do it right.  Some of the initial interviews came across as a bit...  hmm...... are they doing this for the rigth reasons?  They keep saying 'exploit' in some of the interviews, and also saying 'Oh, no one will have heard of this, nothing's been done in 20 years!  Almost all anime fans grow out of it in a couple of years tops.'  Erm... what about teh bi-annual English translations of the novels?  The were also going on about D coming across as being some old guy.  Nooo.... never got that impression.  I felt the slightly more mature voice, like with Robbie Belgrade's Alucard, it gave teh impression of D being a lot older than he looks, which he is.

Jokes aside, Bloodlust was really cool, but I was never a HUGE fan of Vampire Hunter D. But, I'm interested.

This is such an awesome piece of news to come back to.
The plot of Bloodlust made no damn sense at all. But when your film is THAT PRETTY, it doesn't matter.

If they're going for a TV series, then they just need to hammer down plot, but with that kind of talent on board, they seem to have it all under control.
How not to be a dark lord: the answer to that is a terribly interesting answer that involves an almost Jedi-like adherence to keeping oneself under control and finding ways to be true to yourself in a way that doesn't encourage the worst parts of you to become dangerously exaggerated and instead feeds your better nature. Also, protip: don't fuck with Alchemy or strike up any deals with ancient Japanese Shinigami gods no matter how tempting the deal or how suavely dressed the Shinigami is.

I'm curious if they're doing a new story or adapting more of the novels. There's already a manga series which does the latter.

Not sure how I feel about CG-animated, but if Kawajiri and presumably Madhouse are involved, it's probably going to look tight as piss. Just keep it on the darker side and take it seriously; the one or two manga books I read were a little too ANIMU(◕‿◕✿) at times.

This coupled with the first two films coming out on Blu-ray by the end of the year and I'm pretty psyched.

Still disappointed the American comic series from a few years back didn't happen. Could have been decent; the promo art was rad.
Oh yeah, and also:
