Title: General Resident Evil Discussion
Post by: Laina on September 12, 2012, 03:41:06 PM
I didn't see one on here, so correct me if I've overlooked it.

So, let me start by asking who else is all cautiously optimistic over RE6? I have seen, heard & read good things about it so far & after RE5 kinda let me down (it was good, just felt way more like a rad action title than an RE), I'm feeling good about it. I am SUPER HYPED (oh, Two Best Friends Play, you have planted the word 'hyped' indelibly into my vocabulary) that zombies are back. When I saw you could walk while shooting, crawl, sprint, dodge, melee? MIND = BLAMMO! I can't wait to download the demo on Sept. 18th & get a hands on preview of it.

Im too, lets expect that they can recreate the RE1~3 terror again (dog jumping the window in RE1, anyone? lol).

Oh, in RE: Outbreak 2 we can shoot and walk at the same time too.

Nice, nice, good to know. I haven't been able to get my hands on that one yet, so I wasn't aware.

Its like in Dino Crisis, very cool, the only bad part about this game is the partners AI, even a person that never played a RE game plays better than that, if they find a rocket launcher, they will try to use that in the first enemy that they see, even if its a common zombie. Since the servers are OFF by years this are the only choice lol

I like to use my partners as "walking chests", I give some items that I will need after and I have sure that they will not use to them.

I'm kinda lukewarm about the whole series at this point. RE0~3 + Code Veonica are the series to me. RE4 & RE5 were not even remotely horrifying to me. It's all become to actiony with it's overpowered, unrealistic characters. The Movie series really turned me off too. Plus I believe the approach they took with Silent Hill really eclipsed RE in my eyes.

It's always good to see more people who watch TBFP.

I'm still kind of ambivalent about RE6. I'm not really counting on it to scratch the itch left by the first three games at all, but it does look like a lot of fun. I've still got some problems with it, but despite its flaws RE5 was a terrific co-op game, just not a great RE game, which is more or less what I expect with this one.

I know I shouldn't care too much about plot in a RE game, but from what I've seen of RE6, why in God's name does Leon shudder at lightning, for chrissakes, he's been through how many horrific monster outbreaks? And why is it in one scene he rushes to help some doomed university students but in another he wants to abandon a wounded woman because "she'll just slow us down"? Inconsistencies across different game plots I can understand but in one game, with one character? That's pretty fucking bad writing even by Capcpom standards.

I'm kinda lukewarm about the whole series at this point. RE0~3 + Code Veonica are the series to me. RE4 & RE5 were not even remotely horrifying to me. In the same boat more or less here, dood. Though I wasn't terribly fond of Code Veronica (fucking Steve ruined that game for me) or Zero (REmake but not nearly as good or as scary). I loved the shit out of RE4 just because it was a superbly crafted game (and parts of it did actually scare me), but RE5 was sort of in the same situation as Zero in that it's worse for trying to ride on its predecessors' coattails. What really pissed me off was Capcom advertising all these cool subsystems in 5 like dehydration, hallucinations, and a mixture of dark, claustrophobic areas with the open way-too-bright desert areas, and then we got... well, RE4 but with co-op and stupider.

I didn't really mind the movies before when they were doing their own thing, but now the kung-fu matrix knockoff shit is bleeding way too much into the games. With most of RE5, I honestly wouldn't be able to tell if it was RE if there weren't any monsters.

Its like in Dino Crisis, very cool, the only bad part about this game is the partners AI, even a person that never played a RE game plays better than that, if they find a rocket launcher, they will try to use that in the first enemy that they see, even if its a common zombie. Oh dear God, I remember playing some of Outbreak 1. Great idea that was released a couple years too soon to be really good. I would love it if Capcom bundled these together on Vita or 3DS; that way you could play locally with friends and not have to depend on servers for playing it the way it was meant to be.

Jesus, the AI made me want to snap the disc in half. I remember this exchange between that subway operator guy (Jim something?) and the guy I picked (the Vietnam vet who always says "I'm gettin' too old for this"):

Guy: *running in circles* HELP ME! HELP ME! OH GOD SOMEBODY PLEASE!
Me: Come here!
Guy: No. *continues to run in circles* HELP! HELP! OH GOD PLEASE HELP!

I first started playing RE with RE4. I never tried the original three before-hand. 4 was definitely on the more spooky side with those chanting cultists. RE5 wasn't as scary...except for those damned mutant spiders that took me by surprise ICK!! But as much as I forced myself I've yet to finish RE ZERO, RE code Veronica and RE Files 1. I guess I just prefer the RE4 control scheme better as I feel I have more control over the character then in the other titles.

I'm looking forward to it. Do I think it's going to be the bee's knees? No. Am I going to shoot zombie like things? Yes. I saw the demo at PAX Prime this year and it seemed pretty good.

I think RE went from being traditional Night of the Living Dead to emulating Anderson's more action oriented RE movies, which isn't very faithful but they have been entertaining games and I do look forward to playing through them all again with the RE6 collector's edition.

Not to mention playing Leon is always cool.

I still want a game with Barry as the main character dammit. (Gaiden does not count.)

Something that utilizes a lot of outdoor areas in the wilderness would be pretty awesome.

Im expecting that for years, Im almost wanting that Leon go to hell since they use him in almost all games, Barry deserves some love too, maybe instead of green herbs he can use Jill's Sandwiches for healing. lol

Anyone watched "Resident Evil: Damnation"? Its the second 3D movie with Leon and is like a prequel to RE6, I watched it today with my father and its a good movie ;D

Wait, the new RE CG movie is out? Well da~mn I know what I'm picking up on blu-ray soon! How was it compared to Degeneration (the first CG RE movie with Leon)? I wasn't a big fan of Degeneration (thought the first Anderson movie was better) but I still enjoyed it and like owning a copy of it.

Hmmm... I have somewhat more respect for the CG movies as opposed to the Anderson clusterfuck. Guess I'll just mozy on over to the Pirate Bay. *whistles*

Its much better than Degeneration, also is almost like a "bridge" to RE6, seriously if you didnt watch this you will be losing a good movie :)

WHY DID I CLICK THROUGH ALL THOSE SPOILERS?!  ;D

A lot of that I figured out from watching the trailer, glad you thought it was better, definitely going to pick it up now! Figured one of us has to feed your guys' bad habit by supporting the studios and individuals that put in their time and effort to make these things for us.  ;)

When they launched this game? I thought that they have only launched the demo.

EDIT:
Quote from: Wikipedia
Several stolen copies of the full game, in Polish and English but in German packages, were available for sale in Poland on August 31; one of them was obtained by the Polish NEO Plus magazine "in one of PoznaƄ stores." In a later statement, Capcom said this "unfortunate incident" was "limited to a small quantity of stolen copies of the German USK PlayStation 3 version of the game."

That explains a lot.

Nope, that's old and nothing leaked out of that. What happened is that Australia (lmao, of all the places) broke the street date and some other places followed suit. Also the game is avaliable for download at PSN store (but its locked until October 2th)

Some stores in my country, got it somehow earlier, so i got it yesterday and i have finish an hour ago Leon's campaign, all i can say is that even on normal it has great difficulty, because enemies do to you heavy damage and boss fights are hard as hell. Some times it's like the old games and some other times it's like you are playing some kind of matrix games. Anyway, for those who have played the demo, the real one has nothing to do with the demo.

So its better or worse than the demo? To me it sounds better but I prefer a confirmation.

It's better than the demo, but forget what you knew about RE4 and RE5

I played through Leon's portion in the demo and enjoyed it (kicking zombies ftw!). Pretty excited for my anthology edition (comes with RE1-4) to come in the mail tomorrow!

I suppose this should be in the RE6 discussion specific bu~t how many others are picking up the game for PS3?

I played it  a bit in a Xbox360 in my friend's house another day, to me its way better than RE5, so thats an improvement.

Its cool how Leon's scenario resembles the dinamics of RE Damnation ;D
