Title: How time flies
Post by: Flame on January 19, 2017, 07:54:04 PM
You ever go to an old forum you used to visit, (remember those? Remember when those were a thing before facebook fan pages?) and start going through your old posts?

You ever go to your profile and see when you registered and think, "god damn, where did the time go"? I registered here in 2010. I can't believe I've actually been here 7 years already.

Are any forums and webpages you used to frequent still there anymore?

Just this one...as in this was the only I gave enough of rat's bum about to join & that was after 5 years of intense lurking.

Never got the stones to go to any other forums. This was the first and only one.

This is the only forum I dedicate my time with.

I don't think any forum I used to go to is still active. Still, this place gives me all I need 8)

LMAO... Yeah I think this is the only "forum site" that I still use to frequent, occasionally.
The only other one that I post on ATM is an Oxford students' forum on facebook.

Occasionally I visit the Anti-Chapel forums, but none of the stuff I posted has survived The Successor's endless purges.
Also, the final forum I ever adminned still physically exists (http://killerspacechickens.smfforfree.com/), but hasn't seen a post since 2014.

For a while I held out hope of a revival, but 2014 was finally when I gave up and realized the good times were never coming back.

CVD is the only forum I visit, because something keeps me coming back.

I was in a bunch of other forums a few years ago, mainly to do with The Legend of Zelda, but I think they all died out. I also stopped going there to avoid spoilers.

I used to mod a few other forums, but those are all long dead (CV Attic, 2DGaming, a Mortal Kombat fansite). I miss the old Attic, was the first place I ever modded long, long, long, long, long time ago. Myself, Raven Reaper (the sites owner, I still keep up with him in this day and age. He's grown up with a family of his own now), Dorakyura, and Ralph (a mod here too).

Oh man, I barely remember the Attic. I think part of that was because I was never actually a member, but I lurked from time to time back in the day. Same with the Castlevania Corner.

Sad part is, I mentioned the CV Attic, and forgot the places other 2 mods, Redrum, and Master Ace (who has long vanished from the net, miss the dude as he was a good friend, and a HUGE Gundam or Macross fan).

Castlevania Corner was a good place too, but it's run was short and sweet. Forgot I modded there too.

The only place I put any real time into besides here was at the RajahWWF Forums about 16 years ago...stayed there maybe 5 years or so, I think? I eventually stopped visiting when the Asylum (the "anything goes" board) was overrun by Brit posters...not saying that's a bad thing, but I really can't relate to footy discussions. Still lurk there once in a great, great while just to see its current state. There were some horrible, hilarious things that transpired on that board...

And I went on various GameFaqs boards from time to time, but you couldn't pay me to do that now. Too many tryhard wannabe MLGers who claim "x part of game is sooo easy, not sure how anyone can have problems with that" anytime someone posts a help topic. That place is flooded with crap like that now. Anyone who can read one of their Dark Souls boards for 5 minutes without cringing is a boss, in my opinion.

The only other places I went were boring and only got a handful of posts out of me: ScrewAttack, I-Mockery, some Metal Gear forum, a DBZ message board, and probably some others I can't remember.

Most boards I posted at are dead, as in nonexistent. Some are still there but they're desert towns.

I'm glad this board has stuck around, and I hope it continues to. I've been here since I was 14 in 2000 and ya bastids ain't rid of me yet!

It's kind of depressing looking at the current state of the Anti-Chapel forums. They used to be so full of life and I spent every afternoon posting there at my high school computer lab. It doesn't feel that long ago, but it's a decade ago for me now. Now? Tumbleweeds. Someone occasionally rolls in and posts, and it'll get a response 3-8 months later when the next person does the same.

I used to frequent several boards a few years back before I started working. I ended up ghosting from them, unfortunately, because life. One of them is a complete ghost town at this point, which is depressing, as it was my favorite.

I don't post here nearly as much as I used to, but the CVD is my default homepage whenever I open the browser (along with Hotmail and Facebook).
So I do a lot more lurking (and the occasional Private Message answering), haha!

Still, I thoroughly enjoy the Fan Section.  It's one of the better places to hear about homebrew CV-style games and such.  Plus all those sweet sprites...

it's interesting that so many sites have come and gone, myspace... facebook... (hopefully on it's way out) cvc... (sob)
yet this place still stands, with more features every year.  when i came here in 2001, the world was still flat and most of us were still riding horses for transportation, now we have the hoverboard on the horizon.  hell, this place even predates youtube by a few years.

i don't say this often, but long live the dungeon and all the crazy fuckers in it.

facebook... (hopefully on it's way out)

i don't think fb will ever completely die, but if it does recede in 20 years time, it will go back to its Ivy League niche.

along with Hotmail

OH MY GOD. Remember when Hotmail was Hotmail, and not Windows Live/Outlook (a pox on the house of Microsoft Outlook!)? And it wasn't owned by Microsoft? AND IT DIDN'T SUCK?! *flails rapidly*

At least Gmail and Yahoo mail are recognizable from the old days and have kept up their quality.

The very fact that I'm using Outlook so often now and start most of my mail with "dear mr/ms" and end it with "best regards / with honor" is a clear indication that I'm getting old :P
