Thread title: What if I told you that Simon Belmont was gonna be in Smash?
What if I told you... This quote was being *narrated by Morpheus*
Simon has been mentioned in a lot of "leaks," I could see it happening this time.
Question is, which Simon will they use?
this one obviously. The only one and true Simon.
That could be one of the skins for him.
There's been "Simon coming to Smash bros" rumors since Brawl.

Here is what it was.
I'm still very curious to see how this pans out given the previous reporting. Nothing may happen, but it's not out of the question that Konami could revisit Castlevania beyond GoS. Here's why:
1.) As reported on numerous sites in June 2017 from Konami rep: "All I can say is that there is lots of internal discussions going on within Konami regarding what games we can bring to the Nintendo Switch, other than Bomberman, a game which we are well aware of its heritage and how loved it and Castlevania is. So much so that Castlevania is getting is getting its own show on Netflix and because of that, we’re hearing a lot of desires from our fans for a new Castlevania series. So we do know there is a demand for a new game, but right now nothing is set in stone as the discussions are still on going." (i.e. http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2017/06/konami_on_super_bomberman_r_support_and_the_possibility_of_producing_more_games_for_switch (http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2017/06/konami_on_super_bomberman_r_support_and_the_possibility_of_producing_more_games_for_switch))
2.) After the previous statements, "Belmont Bomber" Simon skin comes to Super Bomberman R for Switch. (i.e. http://www.siliconera.com/2017/06/29/super-bomberman-r-update-lets-play-simon-belmont-pyramid-head-bombers/ (http://www.siliconera.com/2017/06/29/super-bomberman-r-update-lets-play-simon-belmont-pyramid-head-bombers/))
3.) Netflix announces Season 3 of Castlevania is in the works, with Season 2 launching in Summer 2018. (SEE TWO ARTICLES: https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/daily-briefs/2018-01-19/netflix-castlevania-writer-2nd-season-premieres-this-summer/.126679 (https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/daily-briefs/2018-01-19/netflix-castlevania-writer-2nd-season-premieres-this-summer/.126679) & https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2018-06-08/netflix-castlevania-animated-series-gets-3rd-season/.132605 (https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2018-06-08/netflix-castlevania-animated-series-gets-3rd-season/.132605))
4.) Curse of the Moon had "100,000 downloads less than a week after it launched...56% of them on Nintendo platform," and Ritual of the Night scored $5,545,991 on Kickstarter and has again recently gotten buzz as a replacement for Castlevania.
(https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2018-06-07-half-of-bloodstained-curse-of-the-moons-week-one-sales-were-on-switch (https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2018-06-07-half-of-bloodstained-curse-of-the-moons-week-one-sales-were-on-switch) & Google search game and Castlevania pops up in headlines).
What we see above is active interest in Switch's market, an apparently successful (and continued) revival of Castlevania's branding to a broader audience via the Netflix series, and what could be seen as "brand-poaching" of sorts with a new franchise getting compared to Castlevania and showing decent sales buzz.
I think we are gradually moving toward Konami doing something, in the same way that Capcom made their move with Mega Man 11. I don't believe it will be a truly bold move (i.e. expanding on the style of Castlevania 64/LoD), but it should be a lateral move that will complement Bloodstained's emergence. I wouldn't be surprised if we get 1.) A Castlevania 1 remake, 2.) A Castlevania III clone, perhaps even tied in to the Netflix series 3.) A mid-level Metroidvania. If any of the rumors are true, I do not believe it will be a return to Lords of Shadow or a straight GoS port, though the latter is the more likely of these two. I'm imagining it will either be done in-house with one of the seemingly newer teams, like the one that did Metal Gear Survive, or have it passed off to a company like WayForward, who I believe expressed their interest in Castlevania in the past. I'm pretty sure it will be either 2D or 2.5D when/if it does happen.
...Well, I wouldn't say I have supreme confidence in Konami, but I want to pump the brakes a little, because here's what I'm left wondering...
First: What was the other Nintendo Switch game from Konami at E3? The official E3 site suggests two Switch games were supposed to be at E3 from Konami: "Action/Adventure > Nintendo Switch" and, later down the list, "Compilations > Nintendo Switch" (https://mp1630k065.mapyourshow.com/7_0/exhibitor/exhibitor-details.cfm?ExhID=4XTDjeQv (https://mp1630k065.mapyourshow.com/7_0/exhibitor/exhibitor-details.cfm?ExhID=4XTDjeQv)). Hyper Sports R is a next-gen Wii Sports-style compilation game of various sports activities. So, was the E3 listing above suggesting that one game fit two categories--you could make a loose argument there because of the nature of sports in culture--or was the "Action/Adventure" game pulled or shown behind closed doors with some kind of extra restrictions to media? Secondly: The embargo seems to have been about Hyper Sports R, yet Gamekult, if translations were correct, said that the game being shown was not PES or Hyper Sports R and deflected the questioning when asked if it was "horror-related." (You could still make an argument for some sort of development related to Silent Hill or Metal Gear Survive, but Castlevania also fits there.) So, there are some questions there...
If we're speculating a little, besides the trends* posted earlier in this thread that are in favor of an eventual Castlevania return at some level, one has to wonder if it was decided it was too early in development to really showcase it, or if Nintendo changed their Smash reveal plans related to Simon, and therefore the potential tie-in with a Switch Castlevania was pulled for a later showing in a Nintendo Direct. I mean, we had all that alleged evidence of Star Fox Grand Prix existing from Retro and therefore perhaps making a showing, and then nothing. But that doesn't mean that game doesn't exist, either.
Knowing what the Gamekult editor was referring to, and if they can talk about it, would be huge. But if Simon is ever confirmed for Smash from the earlier roster rumors that already turned out to be correct, I think Castlevania for Switch will probably happen in some capacity, because that will be one too many rumors around the alleged game that will have come true when you consider the RE2 Remake confirmation, too.
In closing, sure, Konami is primarily more of a casino- and sports-focused company at this point, but given that they did something like Super Bomberman R (and now Hyper Sports R), I don't think they won't do games under the right conditions--i.e. potential profits to be made from market timing-driven properties.
*In that earlier post, I forgot to add that Solid Snake is back in Smash (and Bomberman was added as an Assist Trophy), which is a licensing deal with Konami, showing some continued partnership on Konami's part with Nintendo Switch.
Is this the start of Konami's redemption arc?Like I said, I still doubt it. More likely than not this was all on Nintendo themselves. They want all the starving old-school gamers, and I'd say it's working for the most part.
Is this the start of Konami's redemption arc?The same guy who leaked Simon said a new game and collection are also in the works, so it's looking very likely Castlevania is being revived!
Though if you look the handle is combat cross but the tip is spiked ball. So, it that a mix of both? I didn't think combat cross had the spike ballAhh I was Talking about the body. the chain was just taken from the older games. and thats really cool, its like its joining old and new, and I have to say it fits perfectly. :)
If those miserable bastards actually allow Simon to be in the roster, I'll buy a switch too.
And I literally have zero interest in Smash.
Nor would I buy a copy of Smash.
Ok, I was gonna get a Switch anyway. ;P
It's odd how they're retconning the combat cross design into the regular canon. That pachinko game starring Richter did it too but I thought that was just Konami recycling assets.
Man this blew my mind, I have to get this NOW. And I see that the combat cross is here to stay.
And did anyone else notice that Richter is doing the same pose he did in art work for Rondo of blood.

It seem that Konami, have seen that if they want to be seen as a decent up standing company again. They gotta put the effort in.
Thread title: What if I told you that Simon Belmont was gonna be in Smash?
Me: I wouldn't believe it for a moment.
Thread title: I could give you my word as a Spaniard.
Me: No good. I've known too many Spaniards.
Thread title: Isn't there any way you'll trust me?
Me: Nothing comes to mind.
Thread title: I swear on the soul of my father, Reinhart77, you will see Simon Belmont in Smash.
Me: Well mayb-- nope. Nope. Nothing.
I don't mind it as much either since rather than lifing the Combat Cross design verbatim it's more like making nods to it.
By the way, is it still David Vincent as Richter?
Yes, he's back as Richter. He was already voicing Male Robin, so it only makes sense he could reprise the role with little hassle. I'm not sure if Keith Silverstein is playing Simon again

Does anyone know if the bosses actually do stuff or do they just add visuals? I know Dracula does but wasn't sure about the others.
Does anyone know when the new Amiibos will be up for sale on Amazon?Omg Castlevania amiibos! I havent looked into if smash is making new amiibs (yet), but the idea has got my attention.

Simon kinda reminded me of a He Man action figure moving around in the game. So glad to see Luigi’s vacuum cleaner in the forefront too.

I am still absolutely floored by today. Castlevania got way more love than I expected for it, Sakurai rolled out the whole red carpet for the series.
Simon, Richter, Alucard assist, Dracula's Castle stage with unique bosses, 34 music tracks, and Death's scythe for an item...
I can see this getting a lot of people not familiar with Castlevania into the series, and I hope Konami plans to capitalize on this golden opportunity. Sakurai used the same method for Fire Emblem in Melee, and it paid off tremendously. This franchise is definitely on it's way toward a revival.
https://www.smashbros.com/en_GB/sound/index.html (https://www.smashbros.com/en_GB/sound/index.html)Tangentially related, I found it funny that Yasushi Asada did a Metroid track.
Has some of the Bloody Tears / Monster Dance track. I dig it.
Also, Kid Icarus, Simon Belmont, and Megaman. Together again for the first time! Now we just need a Captain N mii costume...
Can't even remember the last time I signed in here, but I was so damn excited when I saw this. I just wanted to be around someone else and share the excitement. When I came to the main page and saw how long it's been since the last update, I felt a pang of sadness. Here was an active, passionate fanbase that basically got left out in the cold. I know we all wanted this, and in a way, I think we needed this.
if only IGA cared to help keep Sonia Belmont canon and made the successor to the canned Castlevania Resurrection game with retconned story so Sonia's plot doesnt contradict Alucard. all they had to do was make Sonia the first Belmont, and after defeating Dracula, hold a tradition that men that marry Belmont women must still adopt the Belmont family name (some families actually use that tradition and special exceptions), and a different lore to the vampire killer whip.
very interesting plot possibilities which could have opened the door to new female Belmont heroes later in the timeline which could have side stories and adventures, which dont have to involve Dracula but still other evils, and there could be other vampires too.
that would have been better than LOI and COD combined.
I'd be happy if we got a game with a Belmont that looks like Simon looks. LoS was a step in the right direction in terms of belmont looks, (and Simon looked great) but what we really need is the barbarian conan look.I've always felt that it's a shame that we never got a game that fully realized the epic fantasy atmosphere of the oldschool game covers. I'd love to see a modern game with 3D graphics that at least attempted it. This Simon is honestly the closest we have ever gotten to that.
This makes me think, could Nintendo have the rights to make the next Castlevania?

Now, I hope they'll add Jonathan Morris and Julius Belmont as new echo fighters of Simon and Richter, and maybe Shanoa as playable character...
... Oh, and why not Nathan Graves and Reinhardt Schneider? I'M AB-SO-LU-TE-LY SERIOUS.
Sounds like you'd love Serio's Castlevania Fighter though. It's still up, but Serio's pretty much run out of steam after going at it for so long.
(God's sake, is that even still around?)
Do you think we'll see other characters represented via palette swaps?
Smash palette swaps have always been insanely well-researched. Nathan Graves' look would be easy to pull off with Richter.
and Shanoa is further damned by having enough visual similarities with Bayonetta that a more casual Smash fan who hadn't played their games could probably confuse them onscreen, which wouldn't play well since Bayonetta is already in Smash Ultimate.
Johnny Morris Smol Bean Edition, Julius, Nathan Graves, Reinhardt Schneider are VERY niche characters
Shanoa
She's arguably in the top 5 CV protagonists tier
Argued by whom?
I don't often see her referred to (especially by name) anywhere outside this website (and the Anti-Chapel forums back when those were a thing). In most discussions that I have seen, the top five tend to be the same all around, even if they shift in order.
Alucard, Richter, Simon, Trevor and for some reason LEON of all characters all get unreal amounts of press in favorites lists. And when Leon doesn't make it, Soma usually is in his place. I don't think I've ever seen Shanoa on more than a couple of those lists, and she's never very close to the top.
I'm not saying you're wrong, but I am saying that you seem to be pulling from a completely different pile than I am, so I am genuinely curious as to how you came to the conclusions you did.

It kinda goes default with having the 3rd most acclaimed metroidvania CV.

leon makes it because the dude had THE BALLS to walk into that shit with a normal ass whip
It makes sense that they got Simon AND Richter:
Simon was in CV1, CV2, and CV4 (and Wai Wai World 1 and 2 in Japan), and an unlockable in Harmony of Dissonance's BOSS RUSH, plus CV1 was re-released on the GBA.
Richter has DraculaX from the Wii's Virtual Console (Rondo), as well as the more recent Castlevania: DraculaXX (the SNES one), which was made recently downloadable on the eShop. Plus, he was also in Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin and had a mode with Maria in that, and that was on the DS.
I think the other characters are being represented through the music. I'm ECSTATIC that we got "Awake!" from Circle of the Moon is on there.

Trevor would have brought more customers than Simon.
There are not words to express my excitement about this! If you care, here's a little story about when I found out:
So, I didn't get to see this announcement right away. I'm not sure how long it was after the official Nintendo Direct...long enough that some news source was able to link to the video. Anyway, work had started, and since it was the beginning of the school year things were particularly crazy and I wasn't paying attention to stuff like this. The day I found out, we dismissed late, and I was trying to rush home because my church Pastor's wife was babysitting because my wife had to go to the doctor. When I get home, she's reading a book to my son and agrees to finish it before heading home. Just then, I hear a *ping* on my phone alerting me to a news article I might be interested in: "Nintendo Direct reveals Simon Belmont as playable...". Remember, I hadn't been paying attention enough to even be aware that a Direct was coming up so I figure it can't be true, but I've also wanted and talked about how cool a Belmont would be since finding secret characters in the original Smash so I'm excited at the thought. My initial reaction is to start excitedly shouting, "No way! No way! There's no way! Konami's basically trashed everything good they had, there's no way they'd allow it!" as I open the article, but my pastor's wife is still there, and my daughter is asleep so...
...I get to the article, see the news and the link to the video and now it's even harder to not shout out, "Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! It's real! It's finally real, it's freaking real!" Like an idiot, I click the link to watch the direct, only making worse the desire to jump and shout and run around my house despite the aforementioned reasons I couldn't behave that way. By the time the video reached the hooded figure, I had to stop because I was about to explode. To this day, nobody (except all of y'all now) knows the true story about what happened that afternoon.
Are you joking?
I mean I love me some Trevor, to be honest I'm a bigger fan of his than Simon's, but there is no disputing the fact that Simon is pretty much the quintessential Belmont and mostt well known hero amongst the CV fandom, he is the Belmont that first started it all and has appeared in more games than any other character in the series, really the only other character within the CV world that even comes close to his popularity and notoriety is Alucard.
It makes sense that they got Simon AND Richter:
Trevor would have brought more customers than Simon.Eh, Simon is the Marth of CV. He's the original.
I'll personally be excited with Castlevania once more when I have an actual -new- CV game in my library.
I think I still like Jorge's more, but I'm ecstatic that this song made it in. So underrated.
Can Nintendo just buy the Castlevania series plz?If only.
So I was playing the Adventure mode and I wound up fight Princess Zelda, using the vaporized murdered soul of Charlotte Aulin as an assist weapon, with the desert music from PoR playing in the background, and the level had a castle built on a bridge in the sunset for a background.
I was confused. I'm not sure if that stage was meant to represent a Zelda castle or a Dracula castle.

There's so many great details. I love the mist effect on Dracula's body when your attacks miss his head. Definitely adds more visual flair than your attacks simply doing nothing like in traditional CV games. Near the end of the fight I was saying aloud "Come on, be a phase 2" and there was, and I was delighted to see the ol' Rondo Dracula Transformation. The entire Castlevania stage in World of Light is pretty awesome, too.
I also really enjoy that when Simon gets knocked down he faceplants with his ass in the air, like his classic goofy death pose.
For Simon, it appears to be this, at least to me:

-Choice 4 - Red & Black - Castlevania Chronicles Simon
-Choice 5 - Blue - Super Castlevania IV Japanese Box Art
-Choice 6 - Purple (with gray hair) - Vampire Killer Sprite colors (this one is kinda reaching)
-Choice 7 - Orange with Red Hair - ????
