Hi All, I have just purchased a PSP and i am looking at the Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles.  Would this be ok to buy, or do i have to play the other games that have been released in some kind of order?

Thanks in advance ;D

Its great game to buy if you want to get into the series. The main game that it comes with, a remake of Castlevania Rondo of Blood doesn't directly follow any other games in the series, so that's good. You also get the original version of Rondo of Blood, and Symphony of the Night, a classic, direct sequel to Rondo of Blood, as unlockables. So, those two games are directly connected to each other, but not connected to directly to any other games in the series. I reccommend

If you are just getting into it don't be frustrating if you find Rondo Hard. People who are new to the series may have some trouble with it. It is as good as any CV game to start with.

Nowadays you are either a graphics whore or a fanboy. BR is Shank not CV. It is ridiculous to think that it is better than CV. If it was CV then it would be what RE4 is to Resi, a series killer. Dumb it down and make it look pretty. Enough idiots will buy it.

I can't think of a more perfect CastleVania game to start with than DXC; you're getting a remake AND a near-carbon copy of the most coveted CV game of all time, Rondo of Blood, and also an enhanced version of what is arguably the best metroid-style CV game, Symphony of the Night.  Sure, DXC will be a hard game for a newcomer to the series, but I suggest playing through it long enough to at least unlock Symphony of the Night.  Still, DXC is one of the easier classic CV titles (not as easy as, say, Super CastleVania IV, but easier than most classic CV titles, non-the-less).
All in all, you're making a fine entrance into the CastleVania series.

Yeah, Rondo is hard. Heck, I've been playing CV for a while now, I own the majority of the games, and I have trouble with it!

I'm sure if your brother is a decent guy, he wouldn't mind letting you play it on his PSP, so long as you buy the game and your own memory stick yourself. Sounds fair to me.

Symphony is a semi- (very semi-) sequel to CV3, although only about as much as Harmony is a sequel to CV2. Curse of Darkness is CV3's more direct sequel, as Symphony is Rondo's.

CV + CV2
CV3 + COD*
ROB + SOTN
CVB + POR
AOS + DOS
CV64 + LOD

I think that's all the duologies. There's more than I thought...

*You could also view CVL, CV3 and COD as a trilogy.

I would only consider it a sequel if they contain at least one of the same characters, besides Drac and his immortal minions.

Yeah, but like I said, it's only a semi-sequel, as SOTN is to CV3.

CV3 and SOTN share some characters - Alucard and Dracula - and it's probable that Lisa's death was shortly prior to CV3, but it's not a direct sequel. HOD has a similar concept to CV2 but as CVfan13 said, the only returning character is Dracula (and Death etc.).

I think HoD is more of sequel to CV2, than Sotn to CV3. Sotn and CV3 arent even connected , except by both being castlevania. And that one image of Trevors CV3 sprite.

ah but you forgot Alucard is in CV 3 and returns in SOTN with more badassness than his previous incarnation.  :)

No I didn't. That's almost  like saying that since dracula is in CV1, AoS, for instance, is also it's sequel. My point is, Alucard is an immortal vampire, and a major re-occuring character throughout the whole series. Doesn't make his games sequels to each other, though.
