Mahou Shoujo Destroyers.  Love the concept, the treatment, and what it’s trying to say, but the animation budget swings wildly as to botch my regard for it as my Anime of 2023. :/

Okay, it's not "CURRENTLY" as of Monday, but me and my friends just finished watching Victory Gundam. It was indeed very dark and full of war crimes and sexual harrassment convictions, but I kind of feel like if this really was Yoshiyuki Tomino's earnest attempt to torch the franchise and run (as is often believed by the fandom), he might have made a significantly darker or worse series. If this was an attempt to ruin the franchise forever, I don't feel like his heart was in that. Or he just couldn't reconcile his desire to be rid of Gundam at the time with his artistic instincts and drive compelling him to make a good show.
