It started out as a mild dislike of Ponies. We all know how this goes.

And then, I started joking around, attempting to troll people in my close circles for the lulz.

Then, I made a fatal mistake. I watched a few episodes two weeks ago. The damage has been done. FOREEEVEEEEEER!

How far have I gone? Confound these Ponies. They make me write fanfiction loosely based on Les Miserables espousing the power of love and friendship. There is no saving me. Run. Save yourselves. It's too late for me, BUT NOT FOR YOU!!! YOU CAN ESCAPE!!! RUN!!! RUN I SAY!!!

*crash*

...There is nothing wrong. Ponies are fantastic, phenomenal animals who bring nothing but peace and friendship. Do not run. You will be made friendlier. You will be like us. You too shall become Bronies and Pegasisters. Why would you wish to resist such a lovely fate? Come, live in Ponyville with your friends!

How not to be a dark lord: the answer to that is a terribly interesting answer that involves an almost Jedi-like adherence to keeping oneself under control and finding ways to be true to yourself in a way that doesn't encourage the worst parts of you to become dangerously exaggerated and instead feeds your better nature. Also, protip: don't fuck with Alchemy or strike up any deals with ancient Japanese Shinigami gods no matter how tempting the deal or how suavely dressed the Shinigami is.

AHAHAHAHAHAH! This is seriously the funniest post I've read in this board! XD

Confound that hilariously revolting fanfic known as Cupcakes...

It is precisely because it never cared, that people do care.  It's something which it's lacking, because that which it has, it has lackluster of.

I wait for the day when fans of this show can carry themselves and show their appreciation for it in a fashion that doesn't fall into total obnoxiousness.

Now that you mention it there's a pony wave going on Deviant Art lately, is there a new pony show or what?
I use to watch the Pony's cartoon as a kid but nowadays I'm more inclined to unicorns

One of the key factors to its unexpected success was Lauren Faust, that much I know.

I do. That's the problem. Bringing this thing up nonpartially is exceedingly difficult when the fandom's most annoying and creepiest aspects are so all-pervasive in popular perception. It colours people's impressions negatively about it, barring any real familiarity with the subject taking place, even if there's casual interest involved.

Having a sense of humor doesn't require rational thinking. It's an emotion like the others. Emotions aren't ground in logistics. In fact logic is what spoils a good laugh at times. I would know. But the post intro was funny to read and I myself had seen one of the Mlp episodes. There are a lot of rebooted 80's cartoons that have been coming out recently. I guess down the line we will eventually see reboots of Rainbow Bright, Gem and Lady Lovelylocks. It wouldn't surprise me in the least anyways.

Better watch out. People have different sense of humor. This is how wars start.

I mean, I agree with Puwexil. I just don't get why people think they have to be obnoxious, and, well, kind of creepy about how much they love that show. I've met casual fans, but I guess those that throw it in your face without invitation are the ones that define the fanbase, and that's the real tragedy. They really don't help me understand the allure of the show.

I guess I should clarify that I don't think Haman-sama is creepy or anything like that, since even he rejected the show before becoming absorbed into its world. I'm talking about the more extreme types.

Apparently you young'n's are too young to remember this once highly-popular fad, which is what this thread reminds me of:

It's honestly hard for me to define what I like best about the show, but here's a list of some things that I like about it:

  • The writing reminds me of cartoons I grew up with
  • The animation is better than other cartoons currently on air, and carries a distinct feel
  • Much like Azumanga Daioh, the voice acting really helps create and sell the characters' personalities
  • Each story carries with it a relevant lesson or message
  • The slapstick, while rare, is executed exceedingly well

It's a well crafted show that isn't merely a glorified toy commercial. And it's made my Hasbro. How about that? XD
