Title: When was the closest that you ever felt to being a vampire?
Post by: Mooning Freddy on December 08, 2012, 12:39:49 AM
After the army I used to work at a woodshop in a big factory. We  were making huge wooden boxes by sawing planks and pinning them together to make boxes. Needless to say it was a very noisy and harmful job, and we all used to wear earplugs and protective glasses. However, avoiding all that sawdust in the air wasn't easy, and once I got some stuck in my eye and couldn't work anymore. I went to the factory medic, and he gave me those eye-drops, and I suppose it helped but for a couple of hours I was completely vampirized.
Every time I was exposed to direct sunlight my eyes hurt like hell. I was suffering as I ran through sunlight, hiding in the shadows. The pain, man, the pain! I never used eyedrops before, and that was when I totally felt like a vampire.

at the eye doctor, when they do a certain kind of study, they give you eye drops that  dilate your pupils, making ANY sunlight REAL painful, since they are wiiiide open.

Waking up one morning during my early elementary school years and finding out that stepping out into a brightly lit hallway from my dark room seriously hurt my eyes. Try as I might, I just couldn't leave my dark room for almost an hour till my eyes finally smartened up and started to dilate properly. Pissed me off as I thought I would be late for school.

I guess the only time I've felt like a vampire is when my sister met this girl I liked. She told my sister that she(my sister) had vampire teeth like your brother(me)

At my last job I worked a lot of overtime and had to wake up early/leave early to make it there in the morning. So during the winter I never saw the light of day. I was on the fence as to whether I missed the feel of the warm sun on my skin or could have continued on like that forever.

Other times are when I accidentally bit myself in my mouth (cheek, lip, whatever) and all I could taste was blood.

But those aren't super special...my wife is slightly anemic so she will start to feel weak until she eats some red meat. Which I suppose to more vampire feeling than I get.  ;D

Never!
Now if you'll excuse me, it's nearly dawn and I should get some sleep.

When I took a bite out of the neighbor's dog.

...oops, I meant to say working nights. People also assume that I get tons of sleep, too, since I sleep through the day. WTF

We can all be somewhat like vampires now and again. But whenever I see someone have sunburn i'll usually say¨It's a vampire run away everybody!"

Fortunately for me can't seem to get sunburn for some reason.

Maybe i'm holy?

In a metaphysical sense I've felt closer to being a werewolf than ever a vampire.
On a physical level, every time I get shit-faced hangover and someone opens the shade to a window facing me before I have a chance to naturally rise from my torpor.

Yesterday around dusk, I was attending a Christmas Party in NYC.
I was on my way to my bus stop, and was wearing a nice red button-up shirt and white tie (Christmas! :D), with a black vest and black pinstripe slacks, and my winter jacket and white scarf with my hair down.

This middleschool kid and his friend pass me by and say "hey my mans, hey my mans, my mans! It ain't Halloween!"

I ignored them but in my mind I was like "LOLWUT"

Last year we had a "USA day" in the Uni and this guy hosted a lecture about USA history and politics, hell if I know what his job was; anyway he was a young, very enthusiastic man and it was fun listening to him, but he was sure dressed in a funny manner!
It was a red tuxedo, with blue shirt and a white tie. So yeah, I understand you're trying to represent the American colors but seriously, man! You so colorful! You look like Ronald Mcdonald!  ;D

I developed rosacea on my face & ocular rosacea in my eyes as well. Being naturally one shade darker than anemic my whole life, the sun & I have never really had a great relationship. Now with the rosacea onset though, I LITERALLY must avoid it like the plague. The consequences? My face looks like I was in a grease fire, it feels like a permanent sunburn, my eyes (which were always light sensitive) are constantly dry now, so therefore bloodshot & even more light sensitive. My solution for when I simply must brave that devil star's rays? Big ol' sunglasses, SPF 60 sunscreen with zinc & a black umbrella. Yeah, I looked real good at my cousin's kid's outdoor birthday party in May.

So in summary, I guess my answer is I've felt more like a vampire since a month after I turned 27.

@Lania: If you have such a terrible affliction to sunlight then why not live someplace that's dark half of the year? Say the north pole? It might be better for your health.

"Don't worry for them, they will be relocated to a nice place, with plenty of water... Right in the middle of the ocean."  :P

lol kinda sounds like that.

Agreed. But don't worry, old Laina will be here for quite some time, if only as a lurker & occasional drunken commentator.

That's only an option if I were one of those shark-faced "30 Days of Night" vampires.

It's terrible because summer was always my favorite season & this is triggered by heat & sun. Extreme cold can trigger it too though, so it's a sort of catch 22.

Damn. It's as if your life was geared to prevent you from enjoying it. And I'm sure it's not fun either.

Oh well, Laina I suppose all I can recommend you is to exercise more and try to avoid stress.
I am probably quite biased since this is what helped me, I started believing that physical fitness can protect you from most diseases; the story is that I was quite sickly as a kid, yet ever since I started training regularly it seems like not only did I become stronger physically but also it's like my organism is stronger as well. Strangely enough, in the fairly hard conditions I had to go through in the army I never caught an illness in those 3 years, and in those two years that passed was never ill once (thank God).

That is most certainly getting quoted my good sir.

Sound advice, Freddy. I do need to get back in shape physically (I've gained weight over the last 7 years that I am most decidedly not happy with) & it does seem that when I was younger & more active I was sick less in general. I've gotten a gym membership fro Christmas as I requested from a dear friend, so here's to a lovely start of the coming new year.
