Title: What ever happened to *that* Dungeonite?
Post by: P/\/\\/o on November 14, 2012, 09:01:18 AM
Let's reminisce together!  ;D

What ever happened to 'Diplophaggelus' or something of the like? He was a ginger dude, and had a SotN yellow toad as an avatar? Remember *that* guy?  ;D

A fellow Dungeonite I remember the most was someone named Actress and the person's avatar was a pencil sketch of Actress from CV64/LoD. To this day I don't know whether or not it was a he or a she.

He was at the Anti-Chapel for several years but when Successor had his nervous breakdown, the forum was on hiatus, as was he. He along with several other Anti-Chapel regulars then migrated & registered here at the Dungeon under a different name (can't remember what it was but i could tell it was him, thru his "mannerisms") but he hasn't posted anything in a while.

I gotta feeling once the LoS saga is finished, he'll return like Jesus

Thanks for creating a topic in that I can say what happened to me lol

Im using my PC less and trying to care a little more about my health, so maybe I dont appear so frequently like before here. I didnt even touched in any of my pending projects, sorry for the people that are waiting (they know who they are ;D).

I pretend to continue these things when I feel better and/or have a better PC, since mine is very very old and can be called piece of junk.

I miss Blu Cheese and the old A-yty.

Diplocephalus hasn't been around in several years.  He was an argumentative, arrogant asshole, but he did evoke some good discussions.  I haven't seen Muneteika for probably 7-8 years here.  And Tweeter only made a brief comeback here after the old ICVD days.

*whoops* I missed the "Let's reminisce" part.  I miss the days when Morgoth Galaxius and Wallachia were regulars.  Wallachia still stops in every once in awhile.  Morg had a kid and stopped coming around.  I kinda miss Jimmy too.  He was a dick at first, with that whole "I'm from ICVD so I'm better than you" attitude, but once he relaxed he was a lot of fun here.

Title: Re: What ever happened to *that* Dungeonite?
Post by: crisis on November 15, 2012, 11:54:10 AM
shelverton. still posts but rarely

i think all the old peeps mentioned in this thread gradually lost interest in the series/forum (aside from other important things in life) since there hasn't been a 2D castlevania in a while, and any substantial news is just random Twitter feeds about the LoS saga (which isn't even part of the "Akumajo Dracula" series by Dave Cox' own admission).

that's why i say once Castlevania returns to form, maybe the classic forum members will return. one day..

Haha, that guy managed to turn almost every discussion into a "Wii vs. PS3" pissing contest back in 2006, even if console wars were all the rage back then. I think the reason people miss him is because it was so easy to fuck with him.

I don't know if you were told something (the only person I can recall telling is Lotus Petal), but there's actually some accuracy in there. I went through a number of serious tragedies and eventually suffered a severe panic attack that still leaves me with occasional slight feelings of anxiety. Eventually, I bounced back from all of that when I defeated multiple large entities in a massive lawsuit that I waged for over two years, which I gained vast amounts of wealth from. The odds were really stacked against me, and it was an extremely hard fought war with everything on the line. If I were to lose... I'd be sunk. Financially certainly, and quite possibly emotionally, despite my usual resilience. All of this is linked, from the tragedies, panic attack, and lawsuit. Since that chapter has ended, life has been really great for me.

As for Diplo... I can't say where he is at the moment. Last I heard from him was an e-mail he sent me a couple months ago, but he seemed to be doing well.

Easy, went to work for some game company and vanished from IRC one day without a trace after. I tried prodding him to see what his job was there, he couldn't say.

Same.
He's very distant, I rarely even see him on PSN.
Lashen: He got very distant with me too last I saw him, he was a good kid but always seemed kind of down after being cheerful for years, all the way back to our CV Attic days and AIM chats. I'd love to chat with him again, he was a good friend and felt like a little brother to me.

Damn. I believe I've been a member of this forum for a long time, at least 7-8 years. Many people who used to frequent this place are gone. Among them Clara, Think Tank, Antraxx, there was this guy named Miguel Dominno Ivanoff who even invited me to join his private forum before vanishing. Good people, really. I believe Abnormal freak is still here.
Had some serious arguments with some people here and I believe I was called an ignorant asshole once, kinda deserved it I suppose I was young and didn't see things the way I do now.

I don't know why still I post on this forum, not being that much into Castlevania or gaming as I used to before. I guess it's because I still have the forum in my browser's favorites, and I'm not a member of any other forums anymore. I don't have opportunities to speak to people outside my friend circle, most of whom are on facebook, and when all of your friends are on facebook you really need to be careful what you post or write to maintain the kind of image you try to reflect.

So yeah, I like to have conversations with people from other countries, more than ever now that I am frustrated by society and politics in my state. In recent years I've mostly posted in off-topic as you know.
Oh, and moderators, I hope you're not taking my trolling all too serious, it's all good humor you see.

Think Tank actually posted not too long ago, I remember him making a topic saying what he was up to (some film stuff I believe). I miss Clara, but I remember her becoming jaded with Castlevania around the time Portrait of Ruin was the topic of discussion, so I guess she no longer has an interest in the series (she was a mod, too). ANTRAXX was cool. What about Ed Oscuro? All I know is when my time comes, I'll prolly make a goodbye topic and relinquish all my Castlevania memorabilia to you all (the Dungeon gets first dibs, then eBay gets the leftovers). it'll happen sooner or later

and where the hell has DiscoAlucard been  ???
Title: Re: What ever happened to *that* Dungeonite?
Post by: Jorge D. Fuentes on December 01, 2012, 09:22:37 AM
I keep up with Clara on Facebook.
Yeah when Portrait of Ruin came out was around the time she started getting tired of the series.

DiscoAlucard, aka Kurt, lives somewhat near me.  He put out a small book regarding retrogaming, and is engaged (perhaps even married by now).
He's pretty much handed me the keys to the Dungeon.  Trouble is, I don't know what to do with it other than patch it up somewhat.  Next year I'll see what I can do with the site.  Perhaps when Mirror of Fate comes out something will be done, but no promises...

At one point ANTRAXX was still on my AIM list, but now I hardly see him.

Ed Oscuro is a wildcard but lately it's a 'once-a-year' kind of wildcard.
At this point I'm prepared to retire the mods that have been out for so long.
Clearly, Bloodreign, Ralph, and I are the only ones needed. xD

I think at some point, after being friends with the same people for an extended period of time, it becomes more about the personal connection to the people rather than the game series that keeps you at a particular place. That's why we have off-topic forums after all; it doesn't ALWAYS have to be about Castlevania.

Wow, I was able to recognize pretty much all the names mentioned.

I've been lurking on these boards for such a long time, it's rather interesting, looking back on it. Heck, the Dungeon was the first ever board I ever signed up to, back when I was eleven and barely learned how to type on a computer.

Back in '06, '07, I was far more active, now I just mostly lurk and post a comment or two every month or so.

For some reason, despite getting into other things and what not, I usually have moments where I return to this board and read a few topics before going elsewhere once more.

Not even with other boards I used to be more active in have I returned to, even for a single post, but this one, I still do, despite not being interested in forum boards any longer.

I was thinking about him today, it's a shame he went away from the forum.

I do not know what happened to Serio, but what happened with him over time was quite upsetting. Well, I do know what happened to Serio, but I'm not sure why. I believe he was banned from this forum. What I'm not sure about it is why he became such an angry and troublesome individual. When I first knew Serio, he was one of the mildest, meekest, and most helpful people I knew on the internet. Over some time, he eventually turned into the complete opposite. He was/is a very talented person. It could be that all the praise he was getting from his projects inflated his head too much, and he grew impatient with other people's "shitty" fanworks and stuff. Yet, when I think about it, I think he always had that troublemaker in him. When I first knew him, he had left the Mugen community because he had some kind of trouble with them (they probably banned him). I didn't really know what the deal with that was and didn't ask. Overall, I've found people like Serio and Kupomogli, who continually get banned from forums, are usually banned not due to some injustice on the administration's fault, no matter how much they'll try to paint that picture, but because of misbehaving.
Title: Re: What ever happened to *that* Dungeonite?
Post by: Tanatra on December 09, 2012, 09:59:02 PM
When CVC was still around, I think Serio was banned due to some racist remarks, and he routinely fucked with the word filters - basically every word in Gunlord's vocabulary was filtered into something self-deprecating. I don't know what he had against gunlord.

I also recall some people being of the opinion that Serio was a female, though I rather doubt it.
Title: Re: What ever happened to *that* Dungeonite?
Post by: uzo on December 10, 2012, 06:15:11 AM
I think he targeted Gunlord's stupid 'prunyu' whatever saying, because it is dumb and annoying.

Serio played with the admin abilities he had, and they were revoked. He never did anything racist that I recall, just standard trolling. Ironically the other staff continually filled his profile with racist and homo-hating content. This prompted his leaving.

Ultimately Serio was never banned from CVC, at least before he left. If it was done, it was done after he had left.
Title: Re: What ever happened to *that* Dungeonite?
Post by: Jorge D. Fuentes on December 10, 2012, 07:42:03 AM
I find the 'prunyu' charming and endearing.  It's not cool when others mimic it though.  Then it becomes... not nearly as charming.

This is why power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Hugo Chavez (current asshole president of Venezuela) took over the tv and radio stations so that no one would say things he would find annoying or he did not like(which usually meant any point of view that would oppose his).  This is not proper behavior and one mod/admin, it can be a dangerous thing.

I think it's safe to talk about what happened here.  It's been a few years.
-------

Serio... was a great contributor to the community, and arguably still is.  However, he was a very opinionated fellow.  Because he and I had a friendship that extended beyond the CVForum (we talked on AIM and I would help with portraits for his game, and he and I would talk Castlevania and sprites and music and whatnot), whenever he would cause trouble at the forum, I would plead with him to stop behaving this way.

There are a few other forum members whom I've done this with... usually people I've established some kind of rapport with.  Instead of ruthlessly warning them three times, then banning them, I would talk to them.  I would explain that this behavior does not help the serenity of the community, and would advise them to be more diplomatic in their words.  I would explain that the harshness of their words can be seen as hurtful and that they should exercise tact whenever possible, in order to nurture the community into a happier place.  Most of the time, they would listen.  Sometimes, though...

The mods (Heretic, Ralph, Bloodreign... and I think Clara and Ed were still prominent?) and I at the time worked very hard to ensure that this place was not some Wretched Hive Of Scum And Villainy.   After a while, we started taking harsher measures and ceased to tolerate people who would step past what the rules allowed and got away with it just because they were closer friends, whether by IRC or AIM.

It's been quite a while, but from what I recall, It seems Serio took these harsh moderation steps personally.  This happened around the time he got his moderator (admin?) powers taken away from him at CVC.  There were some things said on IRC as well that made it seem as if Serio thought he deserved better treatment than others, possibly due to his contributions to the community.  I argued and implored with the person that his behavior was not exemplary and that if he thought he would get special treatment, that those days were over.

Instead of complying, Serio became harsher with criticisms.  His words began to cut deeper and cause strife in the community, in pretty much all the sub-forums.  After some talking, the moderation and I decided that it was best to ban him for some time.  Not banning him would be seen by the community as people getting around the rules.  People started talking about how the system was corrupt and how some people can get away with saying whatever they want and being trolls (he became quite the instigator, in my opinion) but would not get punished because they either knew the mods or were contributors, etc.  So he had to go.  He was given a temporary ban...

...which he then extended ten-fold by doing Ban Evasion.

When you're banned, if you really intend to return to the forum somehow, you can pretty much only do so by contacting mods/admins by E-mail or AIM.  If you make a new forum account, and start posting in it, it is considered Ban Evasion, which multiplies your ban period (it's usually by 10 so 2 weeks becomes 20 week... but if you're a troublemaker, it becomes FOREVER.  This is not set in stone as some people have, in the past, come back with the sole intent of causing trouble again and not sorry or want to change their behavior... some people just want to watch the world burn).

Some people are doing ban evasion even now.  We know who they are... but they're not causing nearly as much trouble as they used to so we tolerate them posting.

Serio stopped talking to me on AIM when I started noticing he was having other people talk to me on his behalf, and never once talked about changing his behavior with the chance of returning.  I told these people "If he wants to talk to me or wants me to do something, tell him to stop being a baby and talk to me himself".  That was the last I heard from him. Some people here can confirm my words.
---------

This is my side of the story.  It has been blurred by time but it is the best I can recall.
Serio's ban expired a while back.  However, he did not return.

However, some good things came from this:  The Rules are now properly displayed on the "Castlevania General Discussion" board.  The news ticker on top points to them as well.  No one can say "where are these rules?  People don't know that they cannot do that.  You're making up rules on-the-fly."  It's all posted for all to see.  Sometimes amendments and addendums are placed as well, but that hardly ever happens.  People are free to report outbursts by members by using the "Report to Moderator" feature or by sending us a Private Message (it's one of the more efficient ways to mod, as I we're only human and we may miss a flamebait post here and there).  People who are warned have a "Watched" symbol on their profile, so that everyone knows that the things they say can be inflammatory and that they've been warned about it.  Etc.

EDIT:
Serio and I had a talk today and things seem ok.

That was a lot of backstory and a nice look into the inner machinations of the forum, so thank you for sharing!

It's crazy to think about how time has changed people (or made lesser prominent qualities become their defining feature) and how much a community evolves as well. From the GameSpy forum days to now, I'm glad we still have the dungeon and happy to see so many familiar faces (and new ones too!).  ;D

If I had to conjecture, it might be that peeping eye or whatever it is, to illustrate Big Brother watching you.
And when I say "Big Brother" I don't mean it in an insulting, fascist manner. The community here (and the mods too) is warm and friendly. Sure, there are some exceptions but for the most part the peace here is kept. And considering how accessible people like Jorge are, it makes a huge difference. I've been part of forums where you were fucking lucky if you EVER saw a mod or admin post.

In reference to Serio, I never had anything against him, and I never thought he had anything against me. I always thought the wordfiltering thing was a joke, since every time he wordfiltered one of my gunlordisms, I'd find a new one (Prunyuu~ became Punyuu~ and then Unyoo~ and Myunmuu~ every time he set up a new filter, for instance), so I always thought it was just a friendly rivalry. XD

I'd like to see him again, sure, but if he doesn't wanna hang around much anymore, that's cool too. People come and go. That's life.

I think at some point, after being friends with the same people for an extended period of time, it becomes more about the personal connection to the people rather than the game series that keeps you at a particular place. That's why we have off-topic forums after all; it doesn't ALWAYS have to be about Castlevania.

Kurt apparently didn't feel that way when he had the ezboard Dungeon, until a buncha folks flooded the Castlevania discussion board with posts about dick and poop jokes every day. B) Then the Off Topic board was considered a bit of a cesspit for a while... Eventually there was a locked threads forum titled "Stupid Crap"; it was considered an honor to push the boundaries so far to compel Kurt, Jorge, or pjk to move posts or threads there, "the Wall of Shame" it was known.

Aye. Jorge now would never allow anybody to get away with a lot of what was done. :p All these fancy rules and stuff now. Things were pretty downright raunchy at times... Amazing how a "WARNING" label slapped on 18+ threads was considered enough on a board where kids (myself included) frequented.

Which is all very strange considering there was actually a profanity filter for some time; a really wonky one where you couldn't even type Yoshitaka Amano without it coming out all garbled.

lol I'd forgotten all about the "18+" section back in the day. I've been a dungeonite since I was 14/15 & I can assure you that I was already pretty familiar with vulgarity before ever coming here (as a lot of 14 year olds are, I'm sure).

What ever happened to "the abomination"? Pretty rad guy, loved talking to him on msn, laugh a minute. Also, greatest. MySpace. Page. Ever.

I don't know that we had an 18+ section, we just distinguished threads using a NSFW sort of tag before that existed. :p Half the topic list would have "WARNING" in the title. Glorious.

Not even sure I know/remember who that is. The people who've stuck with me are the ones I interacted with most, having AIM group chats with regularly. Mostly they ported over to ICVD where a few still remain, but things are pretty dead there these days.

And yeah, vulgarity comes quite naturally to young teens. I had a sort of "Castlevania online presence" before the boards what with my website, and after Eric Roman had seen me being all crude on this board, he confronts me in an email or PM all seriously, "DUDE, I'M CONCERNED FOR HOW BADLY THOSE PEOPLE ARE CHANGING YOU." No, actually, I was already this way, so... (And then he eventually became totally corrupted by the same people he warned me against, ha!)

I know I've seen your name here, I just can't think of who you are. D:

Moonchilde had some serious issues. We never personally clashed, but I grew to have not too much respect for him, as, over time, it became more clear to me what he really was, so to speak. His entire forum was built upon drama and hate, and not really around, you know, a passion for Castlevania, and that's one of the main reasons he could never really get it off the ground.

Very hateful, bitter person who was a whirlwind of drama.

I never had too much to do with Midnighter, but he was freaking wacky, too, to the point where I'm surprised he wasn't a cartoon character, because he was so strange that he seemed unreal.

Oh man, I'm not sure I can say many good things about Timothy Purcell (or "TP" as he was known infamously at ICVD and some other stuff).
I recall it got so bad that mentioning "CVR" would get wordfiltered at the ICVD Forums.

He wasn't that bad at first.  It seemed as his demeanor deteriorated with time.  I recall he really got on my case when he sent me a pipe organ soundfont, and when I alerted him that it was out of tune (sometimes samples are detuned on purpose but other times it's just a beta or a bad job), he reaaaaally chewed me out about it.

And I'm not even gonna get into stuff he said online against me.

What ever happened to the Castlevania Repertoire, anyway?

Haven't most non-Dungeon CV sites died out within the last few years? I remember way back when, during the dot com boom, there were masses of CV geocities pages. I actually attempted to try and compile some, but that went nowhere. There were some very interesting stuff there, like initial reactions to Chronicles, CotM, HoD, and Aria.

Amen. Being young & stupid once upon a time, I innocently accepted a request for him to be added to my AIM friends list & we chatted some. I quickly learned what a bitter, conniving, pathetic tempest of pure drama he was. I would've felt sorry for him being such a sad-sack & all, but he did such a good job of feeling sorry for himself I figured my services weren't needed.

WTF?? Seems familiar...

1. Haha, yeah, I used to smoke like a train in my late teens, then around 21 I graduated to cigars (I've quit all together upon turning 23, allergies severely worsened). Anyway, I was cleaning a gun when my cousin took a pic & I actually liked it, so there ya go. Looking back on it, it's quite silly, but meh, I'm not too keen on trying to take it down either. Dude had a really dark side to him. We probably all due to some degree, but he would be pretty outrageous. His was so bad that I think it outshone his redeeming qualities... at least for me. Like I said, I never fought with him, but he just couldn't let go or get over his hatred for certain people. Yes, hatred.  I'm not using the term lightly here. I was also aware of his other rabble-rousing goings on... and his constant drama, even if it wasn't aimed at me, was just tiring.

I think what eventually turned me completely off to him was when he was trying to discourage my efforts of making a Castlevania site and especially a forum. He kept telling me, "It's never going to work! It's never going to work! You're just going to drag over the same people and they're just going to go back where they came from. There are already too many sites as is. Don't do it! You're only going to fail."

Nowadays, I would never even pay attention to that type of thing, but back then when I was a green horn, I thought that he might be right. And that wasn't necessarily up-building. Thankfully, I believed that just because it didn't work for him didn't mean it wasn't going to work for me and I kept on doing my thing. And I know he was saying other negative things about the whole thing to other people. I can't remember what they were, but I remember being told about it.

That just showed to me how much of an insecure dude he was. My project was (and still is!) a completely innocent one meant as an expression of appreciation for Castlevania. I thought it was lame that he enthusiastically tried to discourage the whole thing and felt threatened by it. If he was to glean anything out of it, I would have hoped that it would have inspired him to get off his ass and do the things he said he was going to do for his site. His forum never even got a proper skin after I don't know how many years. Something like that would only take me about a week to do, and that's being really generous o___0
That's why his crap never worked. He was too busy and concerned with waging drama wars, both behind and in front of the scenes, both domestic and with other forums/sites, that there was no time or real desire to actually do what really matters... And drama is not going to build a lasting forum that stands on its own.

Anyway, my stuff got rolling and his Castlevania Repertoire - or whatever it was called in its final days - literally disappeared. I don't know if there was a connection there or if that was purely coincidental.

Anapan...almost forgotten him. At the time when it was still active he had the largest collection of CV sprite-ripped resources and sounds I'd ever seen. Unfortunately his site was a little buggy, but that's geocities for you. I still have some of his stuff that he ripped sitting on my hard drive and that was immensely helpful in getting started in my sprite artwork. But I'm not worried about his site being non-operation anymore as there are several other great sprite sites that have picked up the mantle.

Did SemiAnonymous ever come here(hell he could be here now with a different username)? I knew he was on the chapel and gamefaq. Personally I thought he was funny.

I'm 99% positive you don't care anymore since it's been, well, a year, but Semi-sama does in fact still exist...kind of. His AOL AIM account now spams my inbox with gross porn links of the poop/fat woman sort. So...there's that.

I think the last time I ever heard from him was January.

I still miss that one guy who had the rick astley avatar. It's going to drive me crazy wondering who that was.

I also miss Puwexil, but I see him every day elsewhere so uh! But you know who everyone misses the most?

He seemed to be a cool guy when I read some of his posts, but a -2 in each of his posts shows otherwise, so maybe Im missing something even more funny (I atleast know that he is more or less a Sumac prototype)

2 months later I can answer the Paavo question, not at any forum, though I do have him on Facebook. He's currently MIA from it for the time being though.

Its also summer, so the rest of the forumers everyone is asking about could be doing summer things, like vacations, outdoor activities, romance, who knows.

Sometime around when Harmony of Despair came out, she called it quits on the series.  Too many Metroidvanias, if I recall correctly.
She became more into Zelda so she went to the Legends Alliance board.
She likes the LoS series though, from what I hear.

We maintained her as a mod until the recent new blood of moderators, but she did not return.  We still keep in touch via Facebook and the occasional text, and we're good friends.

I've asked it before & I'll ask it again-where the hell is Think Tank? I like to imagine he's a unicorn wrangler, or maybe laying low in a sewer somewhere, living it up Ninja Turtle style, because he's tired of throngs of mostly female nymphomaniacs clambering over top one another in a desperate bid to experience the sweet euphoria that is his junk. That's just how I like to picture him anyway 'cuz he was a rad fella.

I can attest for this.....and thank you for at least trying. I know many things I say can't be taken seriously due to me acting like a complete and utter sociopath throughout the years, however I honestly do appreciate you Jorge being a friend to me at one point in time. You're probably one of the few who did from the first time I stepped foot in the dungeon. I can't really apologize any more cause I've worn that card out over the years. What I could do is recognize why I've lost good friends I did have on and offline. The drama, grudges and utter garbage seems so insignificant in the present times. I have seen others do a lot of repulsive acts and I have many of my own. Really, if trust is to be restored in others it starts with the person who has to do the trusting. The untrusted can't force anyone to trust them once they have screwed up (especially in some cases similar to my own when people have screwed up more times than Dr Wily in a Megaman game and then asked for forgiveness).

All I could say Jorge is that we can take from the positive and bring all that up rather than the negative. We had cool talks about games, music, and even life itself. I liked how you, me and Darkmoon would get together and always discuss cool new concepts and hell if it wasn't for the original homebrew idea, we would have never started the project. I think you have great ideas man you really do. I hope to see many more. Maybe you could be the next Inafune if you put your mind to it and you'll have a kickstarter backed game. I do vaguely recall you showing me your custom artwork/spritework and some custom music and remember being impressed by it. You had it in your old college FTP. It was probably the first time I got inspiration from you to try to do it myself.

On another note I am curious to know what happened to JohnMorris as well as Tazz and Il Palazzo. Even people like PJK, Jimmer and AgentPrelude I still remember. Actually regarding PJK as much as I have had many altercations way back when with him I honestly hope he's doing well. I don't think he was even half as bad as many of us made him out to be. He just wanted us to act maturely and post responsibly. I think for a bunch of 16 - 19 year olds who just wanted to have a good time, I guess it seemed like it was way too much to ask of us. I'm in a different place now than I was then...... Probably similar to where he was when he started coming to the dungeon and wanted threads that had substance rather than the threads we all put out there. Though when you actually talked to PJK decently, you kinda knew he still had some things in common with many of us and wasn't much different.

Title: Re: What ever happened to *that* Dungeonite?
Post by: Johnny on September 14, 2013, 02:54:29 PM
Man didn't he disappear like in 2005?

A bunch of people did. I think most disappeared though after the Jesusvania Attack of 1999. People like Gaimphax, PJK, Azrail and Jimmer were long gone. A couple of people like JohnMorris and AgentPrelude hung around for a bit but yeah they disappeared in the mid 2000s. I had a couple of friends on the board who I haven't seen in a while. I only recall JohnMorris fairly well because out of everyone on the boards I was the closest with him, AgentPrelude, Darkmoon and Jorge at the time. Later on I became close with Tazz and IlPalazzo.

It is actually kind of funny how I first even found the dungeon. Jorge is actually how I found the dungeon in the first place. When I would do a search for Video Game Music, Jorge's name popped up all over the place and linked in with the dungeon. I remember seeing all of his music on VGMusic and other places and being really impressed. Jorge, Kurt and Darkmoon were the first 3 I started talking to also. Had many good conversations. Kurt and I really loved this game for Sega Master System called Zillion so we would talk about it a lot. Darkmoon and I would talk about game creation. Finally Jorge and I would talk about graphics, music and general Nintendo stuff. I could recall it like it was yesterday.

Heres the people I know of not even listed on the sites as forgotten members:

Gaimphax, VicRattlehead/Richter, Matt, Jimmer, Ratzuo, Jason6, and JohnMorris. There were many more than that but thats off the top of my head.

Also just found this:

http://web.archive.org/web/20010322221748/http://pub18.ezboard.com/bthecastlevaniadungeon (http://web.archive.org/web/20010322221748/http://pub18.ezboard.com/bthecastlevaniadungeon)

You can check out what these forums were like in the past least what topics were created. I think I can see why also I was hated so much. I was more irritating than Will Ferrell in Bewitched. I tried way too hard to be funny and fit in. Ugh. I had better interactions with people on IM than I ever did in the forums. In the forums it seems I was the King of Derp for a while. Hopefully, that's not the case now. If people still feel that way ah well lol. Still I do believe I have become a different person in a way.

Title: Re: What ever happened to *that* Dungeonite?
Post by: Johnny on September 14, 2013, 08:54:00 PM
Years ago. I don't even remember when I last posted. I believe I was permabanned by Sindra in ICVD Forums and then I dunno here I just kind of stopped posting. It was probably for the best. The odd part is out of every screen name I used they always recognized me as Byron (not even sure why I probably used KrimsonMoon and Toxizen far more often than Byron). I think from the very day I signed up many people couldn't stand me and what I couldn't understand was that no matter what I did and said it wouldn't change though I was stupid enough to try to be liked anyways. When I couldn't get that and my feelings got hurt I turned into a complete basket case. There were a few people in the interim who actually liked talking to me and were friendly with me like Jorge for example however I drove them away by pissing and moaning about: the people who didn't like me, all the issues I felt the dungeon had and/or how unfair some situations were. All in all I never got it then but I get it now that it was all insignificant and nothing I should have cared about. Was nothing I could fathom then but now I realized that who cares about those who bear grudges and refuse to get to know me, why be angry about it and let them matter and change me as a person. But it takes a lot of mistakes to get to the right answer and I'm still learning. Can't claim to be perfect but I also can't please everyone either. I don't care who likes me and who doesn't nowadays. If I came here this time solely to try to make friends and please people it will be just as much a failed endeavor as all the previous times. I'm just here for some interesting conversation. If I meet a few cool people who want to talk more along the way I'm more than open to that. But I won't go begging anyone anymore to like me nor will I bear grudges or whine about those who continue to have ill will towards me.

Considering that in the present day those who seems to hold everlasting contempt for me really don't come here and even if they did I believe Jorge has even less tolerance for the immature grade school behavior then he did then so I doubt I'd have to worry about people showing up with virtual pitchforks and torches going "GTFO!".

All in all I made my mistakes, they made theirs but I am finally owning up to mine. No apologies, no "please like mes", no spitework, whining, none of that anymore from me. I was an imbecile then and I deserve to suffer the consequences of that. Plain and simple. Looking back at some of my posts even makes me very angry at myself for acting the way I did and makes me think if I were them I'd probably troll me too. I was pretty much asking for it.

P.S. Welcome back to the Dungeon Johnny. I'd almost forgot my welcome mat.  ;)

I will say its kind of amazing to see how things have kinda changed but not really. Its like what would happen if the Children of the Corn grew up. (For the record, I do not nor have I ever dug the nose out of a voodoo doll and caused someone's nose to become a fountain of blood.....just sayin') All of a sudden the angry red haired kid you knew years ago turns into Gossamer from Looney Tunes. Kinda crazy in a way. Then there's all those people where you wonder if they are ok and doing well.

Well she is a fan of Bondage Fairies so it's to be expected. As for Think Tank I'm also curious. I can't remember when his last post was...over a year ago? Maybe more?

I don't believe it's been a year as of yet, but he did come back momentarily to update the map thread.

Maybe if you wish hard enough he'll make his icon Mother Brain again (it's an obsessive-compulsive thing I have).

hah Embarrassing for you, mortifying for me (and it gets worse reading through my old ICVD Forum threads). Yeah I don't know what it is with archive and forums. Some threads show while most don't. It won't even show the Stupid Crap Forum though perhaps that's a good thing in my case.

Well I think any kind of negative reaction from the mods and admins around that time gave you some kind of cred of sorts (if people deemed it funny or amusing that is). People actually were proud of getting PJK and Kurt so aggravated to the point of getting banned or having their threads deleted or locked.

Several sites tried to recreate the magic of the 1999 dungeon but it just never seemed to work out to hold the same feeling. Nobody could be faulted for that. Old dungeon needed to be destroyed with all its greatness and all its flaws. Same as the Library of Alexandria. It sucked that happened and there's much that you can't get back, however it also forces you to find a way to move ahead in the best way possible.  If old dungeon was still around in the way that it was structured, had it not been destroyed in the way it was, a rebuild was inevitable. It couldn't keep operating as dysfunctionally as it did. Jorge was getting extremely frustrated at having to come to the boards to deal with drama all the time and Kurt was to the point of not even having a community anymore and just a site for reading about Castlevania.

Well there was some positive in it. The fighting over people thinking the dungeon should be one way or another stopped and now there's multiple dungeons. The fragmentation of Castlevania Dungeons on the web seems to be working too. Correct me if I'm wrong but I was under the impression everyone was happy to have places where they could run things the way they wanted to. Just my opinion but what do I know, I was never really part of that clique anyways so maybe I'm wrong about what makes the dungeon veterans happy.

Well back in the days of EZboard if you had a spam attack from multiple people and only one mod was on say Jorge, this would mean Jorge would be there for a good hour or more deleting 3 pages of spam threads. Now you could just ban someone and have their posts gone at the same time and also its a lot harder to sign up for e-mail now a days then it was back then so getting a new account is not half as easy as it used to be. Also nobody had range IP bans either. The community and the boards had huge problems then because the ideals were different. It wasn't just one or two people decide to be annoying and spam the boards. It was more like a conglomerate of people spamming the boards and annoying the mods together.

With all due respect, I do not see ICVD Forums as being anything like old Dungeon. It never was and it never will be. The beauty of old dungeon was that it was an Internet Forum full of diverse individuals, many of which didn't get along and weren't all buddy buddy. It also wasn't often that someone got thrown out because they didn't get along with the majority or went against the grain. This led to a lot of colorful discussions, debates and even some fun. It had a clash of many different elements which are absent from ICVD Forums because usually everyone always gets along and agrees with each other over there for the most part. If a smaller than larger majority don't, then that small majority aren't welcome and either they are driven off or are banned. This leads to other people seeing that example and either end up not coming or it can never become a diverse group because nobody unique is let in. So basically, it always ends up the same people talking about the same things. That is not a community. That's a clique, gang, exclusive club or whatever else you want to call it. Just my two cents. Take it for what its worth. Not trying to argue with you but I have to call it like I see it.

Perhaps the same could be said of all forums.

Also why we can join without a invitation if its exclusive?

Well lets put it this way. Think of ICVD Forums as Amish Country. If you come in there and you challenge their thought process and ways you get outcast and shunned. They will ban you and even if you're let back in, they never bring you into whatever inner circle they have.

If say here you and someone else have a disagreement, they are good friends with Jorge but they go to Jorge "I don't like him, ban him", Jorge won't do it because its not a good enough reason. If its ICVD on the other hand and someone goes to an admin over there in the same situation, they'll do it without question because the friendship is more important to them than being fair. See how that works. And if they don't ban you, they'll attack you like crazy until you snap so they can say they had reason to get rid of you (assuming you're not driven off from the frustration). If you read their rules it says flat out they don't care about fairness. This is what makes them the same as many other forums (as you pointed out) but vastly different from BOTH new AND old dungeon. If you're one of the cool kids who fits in with the flock you've got nothing to worry about.

TBH though its not worth getting into too much. I've dealt with this enough and its been long enough. I think the way I do and they think the way they do. That's pretty much it. Nothing has changed except the fact that I refuse to try to get them to see my point of view anymore. Its a waste of time and it just annoys me and other people. Its not worth it. It would just be like getting back on the never ending merry go round. Beyond what I've already said there's nothing really more else I could say other than it is what it is.

I mean yes that's fair to say. It says flat out right in the rules these things:

Quote
Notes from the Staff

- We all hate you.

- You are unique...just like everyone else...

- Just because your mommy told you you were smart, doesn't make it true.

- Your whiny bullshit didn't work at any other forum, why would it work here?

- Just because it's the internet doesn't mean your safety's garunteed.

- Where does it say we have to be fair?

So yeah they do prepare you for that but then Freak can't in any way say "Well ICVD's community basically was Old Dungeon's community" because old dungeon wasn't run that way and was much more diverse and open to all types of users whether you liked them or didn't. Its the same way now in this dungeon only the rules are enforced more.

I see Johnny is still carrying baggage from a decade+ ago.

Why even bring it up?  They don't even post there that much, and many have matured or moved on.  It is not nearly the tough place it was long ago.
You should really post your thoughts in the past tense, not in the present tense.  You're only opening your own wounds and showing them to the people here... most don't know, won't relate, or won't care, at least not nearly as much as those people here who remember what happened (which will probably just be Bloodreign, Freak and I, as we're probably the few from ICVD who post here, and honestly, it seems you still haven't moved on, which is kind of disturbing).

However, yes... long ago, there was quite a hazing period that one had to endure at ICVD.  I will agree with that statement.
As Lelygax said, they did warn people of their mentality.
I will say nothing further in that regard.

True....I didn't phrase it right. To be honest you're right I haven't even been on those boards in years to be fair. I'm speaking from how the boards were last time I was there which was ages ago. I guess I should give them the benefit of the doubt as to maybe they are doing things different over there. I don't know and it doesn't concern me anymore. Not to mention I was as big of a problem if not bigger than they were. It would be hypocritical of me to say "they did this and that" and not to say all the stuff I did too. I gave out Darkmoon's mod password years ago, I harassed PJK with all the others to no end, I laughed at Devil when he got a brick dropped on his head almost crippling him, when people got a rise out of me I gave it back to them tenfold. I was a huge douche and I deserved much of the treatment I got in those days. But not every user who got thrown out of there and ostracised was like me either. Every case is unique. So its not a matter of me saying my treatment wasn't fair, it was more than fair. That was never the point. Maybe I could have said in 1999 other users who became integral parts of ICVD Forums when I first signed up at old dungeon treated me unfairly but my actions in retaliation to whatever they did negates my ground to even stand on. So I wasn't at all trying to talk about my being treated fairly, I was making a general statement as to how it was. I don't know if that applied to everyone who got treated that way over there. I couldn't say. But considering I felt Darkmoon is a good guy and didn't do half of what I did and got treated like crap says a lot too.

I hold nothing against anyone but I do have to call the situation as it was. I may have been an abomination but from my recollections of ICVD Forums as a place open to all people I can't in good faith advise anyone that the community is warm and open to all people. Quite frankly because I only have bad memories and experiences of it.

However, the point I was making was old dungeon was old dungeon. It can't be recreated. It had its problems and it had things that made it great. This place is not its reincarnation but neither is ICVD Forums.

Urgh... Forumplanet....
Their 'ban system' was not even a slap on the wrist, it was more like a 'good job' handshake.
The fact that it would erase itself after a while was appalling.

"What happened to our 200+ member banlist?"
"It's... gone... just GONE"

Of course, I never let you guys know that. :P
But it was one of the reasons people like Mad Cthulhu kept on crawling back every once in a while.

Our current system is better, and more secure.  While it's not perfect, it's pretty great.  And the current moderation team (old and new) has been doing a smashing great job.  Of course, the fact that the forum members are more or less a civilized bunch helps greatly.  Good job, everyone!

I'm so infrequent here I just tend to assume that most of the new people are just older Dungeonites with name swaps.

Such is the state of HG101.

Highwind went on a bit of a hiatus in June I believe. Then he came back and posted a few times. His last post I think was almost four weeks ago..? I'm not sure. But I think he might be lurking around even now.

I encouraged a friend (Frettchen) to join the forum a while back that had a mildly-unpleasant experience, being downvoted on all of her posts—didn't stay.

I got curious around the time votes stopped being anonymous and backtracked to find out that Highwind was doing it. The posts didn't warrant anything. I remember one of them was just "Thanks for the welcome; Lashen invited me here." or something to that effect.

To the best of my knowledge they never interacted (she only had a few posts), and the only time I ever spoke to him myself was through PM when he was encouraging me to post in the Villa. I declined very politely with a maybe; I remember no tension or conflict.

Anyway, I'm 99% confident there was no reason for it, so if he just... had a thing for downvoting people randomly then maybe that's why he's been gone for a while. (I have NO idea if he did that to any one else though, so please take that with a grain of salt.)

Weird story, I know.

Nice to see I was actually mentioned here, though I guess I never stood out too much among the regulars from way back then. Pretty nostalgic to see some of the old names and profiles, sure brings back memories. Hard to believe it has been over 14 years by now.

I joined shortly after the Off Topic section was added to the Ezboard Dungeon in 1999, and stopped posting on the Forumplanet Dungeon some time after Clara Leet was made a mod (not fully coincidentally). I never posted here before today.

Oof, what a talent he was.  I think he hung around CastleVania Corner for a minute before it switched gears into CastleVania Repertiore.  I think.  I think CVC became CVR, but I'm not positive.  Don't we have a CastleVania WorldWide history book open to the Forums chapter somewhere?

Two different beasts, CVC returned after CVR vanished (and was around before it as well). Different people ran it, I helped mod the last incarnation of CVC before it too vanished.

Post by: Think Tank on March 30, 2014, 10:14:34 PM
It has been far too long since I logged in here. I'm sorry about that, but I'm just terrible at visiting. I started skimming some old threads and discovered this one.

Damn. I believe I've been a member of this forum for a long time, at least 7-8 years. Many people who used to frequent this place are gone. Among them Clara, Think Tank, Antraxx...

Think Thank, Wallachia and even Ed goddamn Oscuro.

As for Think Tank I'm also curious. I can't remember when his last post was...over a year ago? Maybe more?

I've asked it before & I'll ask it again-where the hell is Think Tank? I like to imagine he's a unicorn wrangler, or maybe laying low in a sewer somewhere, living it up Ninja Turtle style, because he's tired of throngs of mostly female nymphomaniacs clambering over top one another in a desperate bid to experience the sweet euphoria that is his junk. That's just how I like to picture him anyway 'cuz he was a rad fella.

Wow, I'm honored to be remembered and mentioned. I'm still here, in spirit. You guys and gals are the best. I'm still as in love with Castlevania as I was the first time I played it on NES. But I'm not really into the new games. I'm also an old fart who never buys new systems. I only play next gen consoles at friend's houses. The last Castlevania game I bought that I liked was Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, and even that was just OK. So my lack of enthusiasm for new CV games, and lack of modern consoles, is partially why I don't come around as much. But my main enjoyment of coming here was to share in the friendship, trolling, spirited debates, and raunchy humor of this group of people. I honestly haven't posted on any message boards in a year or so, and when I do, this is the only one.

Maybe if you wish hard enough he'll make his icon Mother Brain again (it's an obsessive-compulsive thing I have).

Done!

It's worth noting that Rey's been making a lot of updates to the site after a long hiatus.

Yeah, the GX Entertainment subforum is the only one with activity.

He was banned forever ago.
He was one of those "Sorry I know it's against the rules, but..." **and goes and breaks the rules**

He was warned privately, publicly, banned, came back, did not learn his lesson, ban extended, came back, still did not learn his lesson, banned again.
He was on my AIM and I would tell him to stop it with the behavior but he wouldn't knock it off.  He had to go.
I think he's still banned even now, though honestly I haven't really looked at the ban logs or anything.

It's been forever ago so I wouldn't be surprised if he's been among us using a different name... though this forum is a lot nicer now that the rules are clear-cut and set in place, than how it was years back.  I think having more moderation present helps, too.

I thought Neobelmont got on here recently. Still waiting for some of dat A-yty and his cold, frostbitten Finnish love.

Jerkofwonder has been missing from the internet since 2009, when he swore to Diplo that he was going to write an Avatar review to prove that it's James Cameron's finest sci-fi epic. As far as I can tell he's still writing it. Dippy-san also still lurks here, sometimes. So does Puwexil. Posting more threads about how Dracula XX is better than Rondo of Blood (or that Rondo's port on DXC is good enough) is a surefire way to summon him.

I had forgotten you were with Uzo, I forgot where I found out you two were together, old age is starting to make me forget details like that.

I know a couple old members that used to post here, but they haven't been around here in ages.

Ed Oscuro- occasionally posts at Shmups forum, but even that is not as much as he used to do there.
PinkFloydGuy, aka PFG, posts on Facebook in the Shmups community there. He is on my FB friends list for years now.

Myself, I hardly post anywhere anymore despite being on still quite a few forums. I post periodically, the older I get, the busier I get, and the Big 5-0 is less than 5 years away for me. I am on this channel's Discord, as well as a few other Discords (Gradius Homeworld, Shmups, Atari Age, a couple wrestling communities, and another Gradius Discord channel), try to check in on those more often as I have constant access to them with my cellphone. I do hit Youtube more, but that's because I am always window shopping to remember what good old retro games to get for my collection, and I like to correct those wrong on old game facts.

I remember,
There was a guy who was making a big mod or overhaul of SotN. It was a real ambitious thing I remember, but he didnt like when people criticized some of his changes or would suggest that some ideas were bad ideas, and I remember he just would take all criticism like that real badly, and essentially stay his course, with the "lmao you dont know what you're talking about" mentality.

Who was that?

For that matter, whatever happened to his project i wonder? If I remember, he eventually left here, to continue his project

The internet can and does bring out the worst in people, especially those whom lack even the most basic self-control.

I feel that his asking for funding to put together a sotn hack is a bad idea. It's not even his game to begin with, it's Konami property and I don't think it'll be long before he's hit with a C&D order should they find out. But I can guess what'll happen; he'll ignore it if his past attitude is anything to go by and he'll get into real trouble. I could be wrong though since a hack is not something Konami made *shrugs* so who knows. But Esco could use a bit of Karmic retribution in his life as he was asking for it.

It's insane how long Esco has been working on that project. Though he was an asshole, and didn't listen to any feedback, I have to admit, I am quite impressed with what he has accomplished on the project. As well, he managed to get some seriously talented sprite artists to create the custom animations. They look like genuine animations that were created by the original artist - they fit in very well with the original graphics.

Don't really know much about that Flame fellow tho.

;)

EDIT: then again, JKB Games is *still* working on his Mega Man X fangame after just over a decade

Wait, what was that one called? Was it MMX Corrupted?

The latest video that Esco posted on his progress with SotN hacked;

https://www.patreon.com/posts/46945742 (https://www.patreon.com/posts/46945742)

lawl @ him using Animation Shop to create animations! I still use that too, haha :D

I had never heard of MMX Corrupted, and I'm just checking it out online now. It seems ... interesting. It's obvious that a lot of time and effort was put into it. I think that X's helmet looks ... a little silly (?) though?

For so many of these projects I only have to wonder if the time and energy was spent on creating new IPs, the creators may be able to share a in a little bit of success for all the time and energy that's devoted to projects of these scopes. But I guess that's not why they do it.

Thanks man. I was curious what the Rondo/SotN sprites would look like at 2x their original size while still maintaining the same original style. I made a few different frames here and there (though this was years ago).

You're thinking of Esco. Haven't checked on him much lately, but he has a yt and a patreon for funding his fangame: https://www.patreon.com/sotnhacked (https://www.patreon.com/sotnhacked)
And he didn't exactly "leave" as much as he was banned. Some forum drama, don't really remember, older dungeonites would know stuff like that.

Don't really know much about that Flame fellow tho.
Edit: well i sure as hell can't read for shit

I remember that guy. Like Flame said, I remember how thin his skin was when it came to constructive feedback. Yeesh.

PinkFloydGuy, aka PFG, posts on Facebook in the Shmups community there. He is on my FB friends list for years now.
I still come around here a few times a year.  Still play Castlevania all the time.  It would be cool to see all the old regulars here again, but I haven't heard from a lot of the old gang for many years.

A lot of the old regulars got married, got kids, disappeared. Some I've not seen in ages, or have heard anything from. Guess our generation of posters all got old and moved on.

A lot of us just lurk now. It doesn't help that Castlevania doesn't have as much activity as it used to (unless you talk the anime series or erotic gambling machines). But it's also as Blood said: there's a lot going on in our lives that wasn't there 15 years or so ago when these forums first opened.

Yeah, I'm married now with two kids and zero free time.  It happens. I would spend more time here, but like Darkmoon said there isn't much CV activity these days.

Like the creeper that I am, I also lurk from time to time  ;D
I think the ICVD was the first place that felt like an "online" family where people were just shooting the shit about the most random of things. So it's hard to let go of something like that completely. And I think for most of us, there's no desire to, it's just that we don't have the same amount of free time to check in and participate as much as we used to.

At the same time too, the amount of options for message-board style platforms on the internet has asploded. I spend way too much time on reddit for my own good nowadays.

I lurk. I think about posting things then realize my borderline aspie opinions are shit so I say fuck it and go beat off instead.

I spend a lot of time on Discord now. The CV Rando community is steadily growing and it's a good group.

I'm the admin and I end up lurking. LMAO

Most of the time I have the forum page up and if it says there are new posts, I read them.
You guys are an excellent community, such that the days of checking the forum for problems and problem-related PMs are almost non-existant.  And usually the mods got things covered.

So yeah, I lurk, but I'm here. xD

I won't lie, I took some of the ideas we discussed back in 2012 and used them to make ICVD better. I'm actually really proud of where that site is now.

Heh, yeah. I do believe Esco tried that not long ago, but his attitude quickly gave him away and was banned once more. I could be wrong here however the ego similarity was very striking.

He was one of the original members of the crew from way back at SitePower (the very first version of this place that predated even the EZBoard), and then he hung around on the EZBoard for, oh, two years I think. He left a little before the hack that wiped the EZBoard the first time, and he wasn't even around for when ICVDF (at that time called the Bootleg Dungeon) split off and formed their own group...

He was just a fun, laid back dude. One of those guys you chat on a forum with for hours. I think most of the really old Dungeonites probably hung out with Jimmer on the forum or AIM on the regular. When he left we were all sad.

I've heard people in hindsight basically call him a SomethingAwful edgelord, lol. He was a good dude, though. But a memory that sticks out was him telling me on AIM how he was fingering his girlfriend while on her period and that shit's gross. D:

Back then he lived in Minnesota about three hours from me. Shortly before he disappeared, we talked about hanging out someday. Never happened, lol.
