Title: Fallout 4 (hopefully) Megathread
Post by: Lumi Kløvstad on November 29, 2015, 12:06:37 AM
Let's talk Fallout 4 guys.
In all its awesome and also occasional awfulness.
Pictures of your character, headcanon, whatever.
Fallout 4 related? Post it here.

My character is named Autumn, and she's Olivia Wilde.

No really.

Pictures coming tomorrow.

I did say I made Olivia Wilde.

I was just watching Tron Legacy, loving Quorra’s character (as usual) and then I said to myself, “I wonder if I could make Olivia Wilde in Fallout 4?”

So I did.

Originally I had her more styled off of Quorra directly, but then I just remodeled her off of the actress proper. Picture doesn’t really do her justice (shaky cell phone camera), but I’m really pleased with the result in gameplay, and the voice matches her look pretty well.

Autumn is a persuasive, charismatic survivor who is a product of her era, and as such tries to help where she can while avoiding rivalries she feels might spark another war. She’s sentimental (keeping her baby son’s things exactly as she found them again in the Wasteland as a reminder of why she does what she does), and a cracking good shot. Despite being something of a rogueish playstyle, she does not steal, ever. It’s just against her values. She tries to be a friend to all, but has quickly learned that, in the Wasteland, sometimes you just have to back up your peaceful ideals with a bullet between the eyes.

Giving fallout 4 a try as well. despite all the bugs (and my bro's room mate can testify that in spades), it's actually kinda fun and engaging. The backstory of your character is a sad one, but not to the point of hopelessness. Right now I'm running around wearing my Vault 111 outfit with leather armor bits for added protection, and sporting a Fedora I found in a ghoul-infested house, lol. It's an odd combination, but the world I'm in is just as odd. I also gave her white hair with a dark skin tone, and she has a nasty set of scars on her face, giving her the appearance of someone who's had an encounter with a savage mutant lizard out in the wastelands, and lived to tell the tale.

Pics?

Honestly, coming up with a backstory and role playing according to it is like 90% of the fun for me.

No pics, sorry. I don't exactly have access to a camera phone nor is it something I'm proficient at using. Although I have to wonder if the PS4 can do screenshots...

So true, so true. I do it all the time when playing Skyrim.

Don't know if you've started the quest Tradecraft, but it's pretty borked close to the end, with the safe not opening at all. Save RIGHT BEFORE you enter the Slocum Joe's, because otherwise you may not be able to revert and have a chance at completing it.

Just some advice.

And I just found out that New Vegas isn't even compatible with Linux. This makes me more sad. Now I have to go through the hassle of setting up Wine.

That really sucks man. Linux still isn't for gamers, sadly, no matter how much Valve will try to convince you to buy a Steam Machine.

I hope it is one day. Honestly, it should be easy to port games to linux. Hell, I'd be fine if they just packaged Wine in with the game. I just want my games already.

If that's near the end of the game then I've nothing to worry about. I'm still testing out my Fallout 4 legs. Right now figuring out the crafting sequences is taking up my game time. Although it's slow-going for now. I'll have to check out a walkthrough to find out where the most amount of resources can be located. I'm having trouble just making beds, lol!

It's rather close to the beginning. If you've made it to Diamond City, then chances are you've picked it up at some point.

I'll have to check out a walkthrough to find out where the most amount of resources can be located. I'm having trouble just making beds, lol!

Take Codsworth with you, he's handy in a fight and can carry a good bit of junk. What you want to do is just pick up ALL THE THINGS and then foist them on your robot buddy, haul ass back to Sanctuary (or wherever you made your pile) and then just dump everything into a Workbench for storage. Rinse, lather, repeat. Avoid crafting for the first half dozen runs. Soon, you'll be drowning in stuff to use.

If you get the Local Leader perk, all of your crafting stations from settlements that you control will form one big pot of crafting resources, so stuff you leave in Red Rocket will be usable in Tenpines, etc.

Avoid doing the Militiamen quests, as they will drain your building resources by starting a whole lot of settlement construction quests.

My character doesn't care for starting settlements anyway, and refused to lead the militiamen when offered, basically saying "I'm willing to help, but I'm not in this for your Revolution. I just want my boy back."

Since at the time being I lack a PC that has any muscle, I got the Xbox One Fallout 4.
It's so far (50 hours in) pretty amazing, though I generally don't like this gen's consoles (they fucking suck)
I kinda don't like the leveling system, it really lacks the satisfaction the other games has, but the removed level cap is really nice.
Caps are now very hard to obtain which makes the shop exploit viable since resources are more important in most cases.
The game is built on the Skyrim engine, yet makes Skyrim look simplistic in almost every way.
The Xbox One Fallout 4 comes with a free copy of Fallout 3, though no DLC is a real bummer since nobody is gonna play it anytime soon because of Fallout 4.

I have totally forgotten to redeem my free download of Fallout 3. My bad.

I miss Skyrim's "you level the skills you use proportionately to how much you use them" leveling setup, which was an excellent way to have your characters evolve organically over time.

I do love the new "pick the perks that your skill level unlocks" system though, so leveling in Fallout 4 is a mixed bag for me.

I think Xbox One is a great system for Fallout 4, though I will also get the PC version as soon as I have a PC with better than Intel Integrated Graphics.

I honestly don't expect Fallout 4 to be as heavily modded as Skyrim became, but I've been wrong before.

I'd love to see Mjolnir Armor from the Halo series modded in and labelled something like "Prototype Next Gen Power Armor".

This is what my bro's room mate had noticed the very first time. Fallout 4's engine is from skyrim and as such the bugs that plagued skyrim can be found in fallout4 as well. that's of course not counting the reused assets that Bethesda really loves to do cause they're lazy. And laziness is another reason why their games have so many bugs, especially if the engines are reused.

On another note, my character is sporting a good set of threads from the Brotherhood of Steel. She is also wearing one of the militiamen hats and a pair of shades that police officers wear. She now looks like a gunslinger from a sci-fi comic or something. I keep Codsworths with me wherever I go cause he's good at being the distraction for enemies while I shoot them from afar. But f@#k! Those damned super mutants are really starting to give me trouble.

Codsworth deserves a fanclub for being the trooper he is.

Best AI companion in any game, ever.

In Halo, Cortana started going rampant ahead of schedule
(click to show/hide)
but dear me, Codsworth ain't just loyal and sane by the end of waiting 210 years for you, he's genuinely glad to see you and offers to make you dinner and tea, and tearfully regrets that he can't make it to his usual standards because of a dearth of quality ingredients. Bless the little bot, he tries hard for Autumn, so it's only natural she tries to be strong for his sake.

That's some goddamn dedication.

Dude's family for my character, and Autumn treats him better than any other character.

Codsworth even quotes a line from Monty Python's Holy Grail when an enemy hits him

"Ti's but a scratch!"

lol.

Getting 100% happiness on any settlement is a real challenge, especially when I haven't encountered the Dog merchant yet.
for once, this is a Fallout/TES game that doesn't need many mods to improve the game, and waiting to fix the fun exploits is good.

Adhesive is "rare" but I find Aluminum to be much more rare because of all the uses it has on just about every upgrade.
Supply lines is great, turns my resources into a cloud so whenever there is a new settlement needed, I can just send a line it's way and establish it rather quickly.
Can someone help me find Gene, the Dog vendor? or better yet a way to get a dog in every settlement?
Though I dislike the lack of Role-play and lack of choices, the Dialogue for the most part is really well done.

Mods to Consider for any version:
Item Sorting, Especially in the MISC and AID areas, you're gonna have so much shit in there remembering which Holotape you just picked up is essential.
Armor/Clothing upgrade expansion, Some outfits are Really cool, too bad it sucks in combat compared to your modular set, I would like to armor up my minutemen suit.
Quest timers, Some quests have a timer, knowing which ones are timed can be useful when you're off touring around.
Settler Management\upgrades, Some sort of indication of who does what would be nice, a simple icon beside their names would do, and maybe a progression of who's better at doing what, I would like to see the already fun aspect of Settlements to be less frustrating and more fun, See more in detail of who's doing what so that accidents won't be made and better yet a less frustrating way to fix those mistakes.
More Upgrades!, why does the Shiskebob only have one upgrade while the Swatter has 20?

I'm feeling rather mixed about fallout 4. I like it but at the same time it's got issues that kinda bring it down for me. I don't like the fact that I'm somewhat forced to provide for settlers. And that I'm the one who's supposed to build everything for them when the game itself should have them building everything they'll need. Also the crafting for power, housing, beds, etc. is really tedious and non-descriptive. There is no proper set of instructions in order to construct habitats for the people. The game expects you to do this stuff without even properly explaining it to you in a way that you'll get. Or get in anyway at all. Bethesda obviously did not properly implement the crafting feature as they should have. A friend of mine had to continuously go online and read a walkthrough before finally getting it. While it's a great idea and I'm sure it would have been stellar had it been "properly implemented with instructions, it fall short on Bethesda's part--laziness. Just like their bug issues. And frankly building settlements shouldn't be such a hassle either. Everything about settlement construction should be more automatic rather then feeling your way in the dark. It just doesn't work well in that regard.

So Marcy Long has been helping herself to my bed in Sanctuary (you know, in the house I lived in before the war). I have tried barricading the room even (using an armoire to block all entry) but she still gets in somehow.

WHAT THE HELL.

I give the downer bitch a community center with scenic views, a basketball court, a pool table, wet bar, and twice as many beds as necessary. I bring in food and medical supplies and make sure the people want for nothing.

And yet

She keeps breaking into my heavily fortified home (8 foot walls all around, machine gun turrets on roof, Dogmeat guarding) to help herself to my ONE BED. She has TEN in a nearby building to choose from that are just as nice.

wtf is with this woman.

This is because I have the only working light bulb in town, isn't it!?

Well, I managed to complete Fallout 4 and I'm still on the fence about it. Being somewhat forced into a faction is not something Id consider fun or wanting more of. I kinda went with the Brotherhood of Steel and I really don't like their Xenophobic attitude. The only reason why I went with them in the first place was to see Liberty Prime tear shit up like it did in fallout 3.

"Do not fear the Red Menace!" LOL!

The other factions (from what I've read) aren't exactly any better either and this is very disappointing for me. I would go back to skyrim more-so then fallout 4 because it doesn't nearly have all the negative penalizations that fallout 4 does apparently. I personally want the best ending to any game that doesn't make me feel like I've wasted my time trying to help everyone only to get dumped on instead. I know you can't get everyone to like you but at the very least give me the majority of vote rather then taking paths 1-2-3-4 and find out that no-matter what, nothing changes in terms of peoples' attitudes.

I'm starting over because my game glitched in a way that rendered the main quest unfinishable, and to go back to my last hard save seats me back enough that i'd essentially be starting over anyway.

Also, some loser on Facebook spoiled Father's identity to me, so enforcing method acting in that scene just got a lot harder. Seriously, this is a much more emotional main quest than anything I've seen Bethesda do before, so to have that spoiled is just a hateful thing.

Is it feasible to come over to where that jackass is IRL and stomp a mudhole in their groin? :V

I actually know where the guy lives as the post was in a group made specifically for local gamers.
But driving a town and a half over is a bit extreme just to dish out some vengeance.

So I spoiled the ending to the new Star Wars as vengeance.

I know I know. Necromancy and all that. But I'd rather not start a SECOND Megathread. Kind of defeats the purpose of having the first one in my book.

I just discovered something guys. Great enough that I dip into foul forbidden magics to resurrect a thread from the grave.
...Codsworth will totally call you Snake BY NAME if you register that as your character's name.

Sadly, "Belmont" is not one of the ones he recognizes.

He will recognize Plissken though, so you can totally model your character on Kurt Russel and be good to go for the new hit "Escape from Boston".

He will also recognize you as "Orgasmo" if that's your thing.

Now that's tempting me to start over again. SNAAAAAAKE!

Although if it's only those three things Codsworth will recognize, what about the other NPCs you drag along? Will they also call you by a particular name if that's what you have listed?
Title: Re: Fallout 4 (hopefully) Megathread

So far it's only been Codsworth, though the Fallout Wikia has a handy list of all the names Codsworth will audibly articulate. (http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Codsworth/recognized_names)

Some of them are quite juvenile.

Katniss and Kal-El are some other fun pop-culture names he will say, along with Prince, Tallahassee for you Zombieland fans, Venkman, Wanderer in case you liked Fallout 3's Lone Wanderer, and Doctor/Mr. Freeman (he can recognize a title and will simply skip to the actual name parts). That's right. You can finally make a Gordon Freeman who can SPEAK (Half Life 3 confirmed?).

In total there are about 930 names he is known to speak so far, which includes memorable names like "Boobies" and "Fuckface".

It's really fun to play around with.

I have the console version as I felt burned by the PC version. My computer is currently under-powered in terms of handling the game. That and you can't get the whole game on disc. You have to download the rest off Steam, which is stupid. So for now I'm currently fine with the console port. I've seen the mods over at Nexus and while they look awesome I can't be bothered download part of a game that should be available on retail rather then online. This is what bugs me about the internet. Developers have gotten lazy and don't want to spend money on an extra disc  :P

Well this topic hasn't fallen off the page yet so I guess it's still good to go. I found an interesting video about the history/lore of Fallout so I thought I'd upload it here for those who might not have seen or heard of it yet. Fallout 4 didn't come out when this video was made so you won't really hear anything about that.
