I don't think I can call that 'drawing'.
It also scares me that there's traces on the paper, so there's a 'chance' he's tracing!  Either that or he's on his third of fourth attempt.  That's saying something!

It's closer to old manga from the 60s and 70s. I always hated the term "manga style" because it completely disregards the works of artists like Amano Yoshitaka, Ito Junji, and many shoujo and yaoi mangaka, Japanese artists not known for their "manga style". Hell, even Tezuka Osamu, the father of modern manga, wouldn't be considered manga style by a lot of manga readers or professed "otaku" these days.

I've seen some of that very early manga style and it is quite a departure form what we've got going on today. I think the earliest I've heard of Manga being around was sometime in the 1890's I think. But for me the most recognized Manga styles didn't start popping up until the 1970's.
