Still doing the Ranma 1/2 anime, almost finished, after I'll do another show from the same lady, Urusei Yatsura from 1981. Also Sailor Moon Crystal Season 3 is almost done, and started two moe girl animes, Anne Happy (sounds like Unhappy, random humor) and Sansha Sanyou, the latter two currently running their initial seasons.

I must be the oddball because although I loved Macross I could never get into GW.
Maybe I'll try again one day.

Finished Anne Happy (it ended this week) and Rumiko Takahashi's Ranma 1/2, so I started on her older show, Urusei Yatsura (from 1981). Urusei feels like a funny clusterfuck, 3 episodes in, the laughs are plenty.

I must be the oddball because although I loved Macross I could never get into GW.
Maybe I'll try again one day.

I loved it when I was around 12 but when I tried to re-watch it later I couldn't get into it. The artwork is undeniably gorgeous though, and the Tallgeese 1 is still and will likely always be my favorite mecha.

As for what I've been watching lately-
I don't watch a lot of anime but out of curiosity and a desire to write a blogpost review I watched "Monster Musume: Everyday Life with Monster Girls" and um.... yeeeeah. I don't think I could really talk about many specifics of the show outside the "adults only" thread XD. Definitely NSFW material. One of the funniest things I've seen in a long time though. I was actually surprised by how much I enjoyed it since harem comedies aren't typically my thing. The last one I saw before this was "Love Hina" and that only because a roommate re-watched it constantly (when he wasn't re-reading the manga) around 2008. And before that the last I'd seen was "Tenchi in Tokyo" the better part of 2 decades ago.

PS- Holy crap the Tenchi Muyo franchise is STILL ongoing?! That is one indecisive kid. I would have thought he'd have just picked best girl (Ryoko) and sailed into the sunset by now.

Currently showing my girlfriend Macross Plus. She doesn't really know anime outside Ghibli and Vampire Hunter D, so I've really been craving my favorite anime and wanted to show it to her.

Only got through the first episode but I'm hoping she likes it by the end. Watching the Blu-ray set which only has the dub and no subs, and has the redubbed final episode. It's kind of a toss which is better because the Manga dub clearly has better voice acting, but the Bandai dub for that episode has all the original music and sound effects, which makes me kinda lean toward that one.

Did all 96 episodes of Maison Ikkoku, it tugged a lot at the old heartstrings, felt really bad for Godai. I found myself cursing at my TV at Kyoko for being stubborn, and Godai for being chickenshit, but in the end it all worked out. The series wrapped up quite nicely, unlike Rumiko Takahashi's other works. Best ending I've ever seen in an anime, only 1 mystery never solved, what was Yotsuya's job anyway?

Still doing Urusei Yatsura (resumed anyway, another Rumiko work), and first episode of Kill la Kill down (I kind of hate it's artstyle, but it's not short on action so far).

I love the art and animation style of Kill la Kill because it's like a souped-up, almost parody version of what made mid '90s anime so damn awesome to look at. I guess it ain't for everyone.

Despite the artwork, I am still watching it (6 episodes in so far), the thing keeping me to it is the sheer ridiculousness of it. It's so absurd, I can dig it.

Also started Amaama to Inazuma (about to have it's second episode, it's adorable), have Gurran Lagann on the backburner, along with Ruronin Kenshin. So in total 5 animes I'm either keeping up with, or will soon be watching at once.

What gets me is, normally grown women do kids voices in anime, but Amaama to Inazuma's little girl is actually done by a 10 year old voice actress with 3 acting credits already to her name.

@Ratty Tenchi Muyo is still going??!
I was always rooting for him to eventually bang Ryoko (no pun intended)

Some of the best music I've heard in anime has come from Tenchi Muyo, some of the tracks' feel from Darker than Black also remind me of Tenchi's.

I finally finished Gurren Lagann. I'd watched the first half sometime last September and hadn't touched it since, but a couple days ago I finished eleven episodes in one day. Super damn good and addicting. Hiroyuki Imaishi has become one of my favorite anime directors; I like how his shows are constantly moving, as opposed to long spans of characters just talking, and the animation is always far out there. I remember watching Dead Leaves a long time ago and being amazed by how expressive the drawings are; I'd say to some extent, there's probably an influence from American cartoons like old Looney Tunes and Ren & Stimpy, something the director plays up even more in Panty & Stocking with its strong similarity in drawing style to shows like Powerpuff Girls. No shortage of interesting story concepts either, even if story isn't exactly the primary focus in most of his shows, although Gurren Lagann is easily the most in-depth and character-driven.

Next I'll watch the GL movies. I don't dig series recap movies where the majority of the footage is taken from the series but whatever. Looking back, I guess I gotta hand it to the Escaflowne movie for at least supplying 100% new animation, even if it's still a condensed series recap.

Yeah, there's surprisingly little info considering Tenchi was a hit on Toonami way back when, you'd think it would have retained more of an Enlgish-speaking fanbase. From what I gather the creator of the original OVA has written canon novels, I don't know if he's ended the story in those or if the next OVA (which according to a uselessly-sourced wikipedia article, well useless if you don't read Japanese, is supposed to be the end of the franchise) will be based on those novels. That OVA is supposedly coming out next year.
The OVA released last year was apparently just a collection of like 50 non-canon 4 minute shorts promoting tourism to some area of Japan.

PS- No wait, apparently that came out the year before last http://tenchi.wikia.com/wiki/Ai_Tenchi_Muyo

PPS- I outgrew it by the time the dreadful "Tenchi in Tokyo" was finished airing, but man I'd be lying if I said this didn't take me back.

The Vision of Escaflowne and Azumanga Daioh! The Animation.
How not to be a dark lord: the answer to that is a terribly interesting answer that involves an almost Jedi-like adherence to keeping oneself under control and finding ways to be true to yourself in a way that doesn't encourage the worst parts of you to become dangerously exaggerated and instead feeds your better nature. Also, protip: don't fuck with Alchemy or strike up any deals with ancient Japanese Shinigami gods no matter how tempting the deal or how suavely dressed the Shinigami is.

Awesome, I LOVED Escaflowne (the TV series, at least, I didn't like the movie as much). You're in for a treat :D
