I don't know maybe it's just a coincidence there or a crash of ideas

Story-wise, it's the Grim Reaper/Thanatos/Muerte who's the mentor and grandfather of Grolla so maybe the Grim Reaper also told her the usage of laser skill, but Grolla's version is a stripped down version can only slice the screen in several fixed patterns. Perhaps Grim Reaper is the original developer of the skill so that he can slice the screen randomly but the appearance is in an entirely different game and different canon so it's hard to say
