Chronicles of the Wolf physicals are available for pre-order now on Nintendo Switch and PS5! We can't wait to let the hunt for the Beast of Gévaudan begin!
I've always found Saturn's sprites subpar compared to the rest of SotN's graphics, so I may try to do the same with a few more, since we have so many rips here...
These look quite nice, especially the added depth on the imp.
simon nes sheet with special moves n stuff tried to stay as close to / in the spirit of the CV1 style and animations as I could, but kinda ended up with something a little higher fidelity out of necessity version without the alignment guide

I hoped to hear some detailed explanation from the dev side what exactly caused the problem to soul and item drop rate in Dawn of Sorrow, is it a bug or an intentional design.

Hmm, that’s a very interesting bit of info! So you inquired about it, but they straight up declined to even comment on it. I would imagine they signed strict non-disclosure agreements that are still in place to this day. But IGA’s not even with Konami anymore so I wonder why he still chooses to keep his mouth shut about it, how far into development they put in, etc. If that Resurrection demo could leak onto the internet after everyone believed it was a lost cause then perhaps something similar can happen with this, I just don’t want to wait another 20 years for it to happen

*Snore* this rumor has popped up every single year for the past....what...8-9 years? Outside of Grimoire and the collections, we've seen nothing (I'd argue Haunted Castle Revisited IS something but to each their own.)
I honestly just don't see Konami sinking serious money into another Castlevania reboot. Maybe they will, but if they were to do it, I honestly don't see how they'd make a new 3D Castlevania NOT play like a God of War clone i.e. like LoS. I think it's doable, but Konami's track record lately has been....amazingly good so far. MGS3 Remake is looking fantastic and that's supposedly being done in house. Silent Hill 2 Remake was apparently excellent. But Castlevania? the timeline is so fudged up at this point, they may have to reboot it i.e. like Capcom did with the RE games. Something that pays respects to the classics but updates them for a modern era.
As long as they are staying within the original timeline/remaking it, I'm in. No more alternates or LoS style games. No more spin offs.
This game has eluded us ever since this teaser was released, and quickly cancelled in favor of Lords of Shadow. Little to nothing is known about this, but what we could piece together & speculate, obviously Alucard would’ve been the main character again. It seems it would have taken place shortly after Symphony of the Night. I don’t think this was ever confirmed (obviously) but I believe this game would’ve tied into the Nocturne of Recollection radio drama somehow. Some motion capture work was done, as I recall an interview a mocap actor did a while back where he said he did a few days work on this project at Konami HQ before it was canned.
As far as I know IGA never commented on this, since he’s the only one that could give us solid answers as to what happened, the direction he was going for, etc. I feel the OST would’ve been incredible had it been greenlit. So was this a missed opportunity, or did we dodge a bullet?
When I interviewed Shutaro Iida last year (with IGA acting as a sort of backup to the interview,) I specifically asked them about this game and what it was supposed to be and I was told to straight up delete the question, so I'd imagine they don't want to get in hot water with Konami over this. There were a small handful of questions as well about the timeline, Castlevania Resurrection/Legends and maybe the N64 games, and all of them were shot down...which makes sense as Iida specifically had nothing to do with those. But seeing as how Iga was backup to the interview, I figured I'd shoot my shot.
Anyways, back to the PS3/360 game that was announced here...from what I have read/heard (please take with a grain of salt as I can't recall the source at the moment,) Konami asked Iga, as well as other teams to pitch to them a new entry in the series. Iga pitched this game and Mercurysteam pitched their original plan for LoS which was supposedly a Super Castlevania IV remake that eventually morphed into LoS (there's video evidence of this as well online that this was the initial plan.) Obviously, Konami was trying to go big budget and sink some serious time/effort with a new entry. Ultimately, it didn't work out despite LoS selling the highest out of all 'Vania titles....but the subsequent sequels killed the LoS alternate series and, well, it seems time heals all wounds as Konami has been focusing on the original timeline again...thank goodness. Food for thought.
So, I've been replaying the DS games due to the recent re-release of them and while they are fun gameplay wise, I feel they do the Belmonts dirty. You might disagree and that's fine but to me the Castlevania series is the Belmont family's generational struggle against Count Dracula. They wield the ultimate evil destroying weapon, the Vampire Killer. However, the DS games kind of make them sideline characters. Even in Portrait of Ruin the Vampire Killer gets outshined by other various weapons. Like isn't this the ultimate undead and demon slaying tool? Didn't Leon Belmont sacrifice his fiancé soul to make it? Then why is the Alucard Spear or Final Sword a stronger weapon? Also why the "Belmonts can't touch the whip until 1999" rule? I know about the Demon Castle Wars, but it seems like a cheap excuse to bring in other characters. My issue really is that the heroes of the series don't feel like the heroes. To quote The Incredibles "When everyone is super, no one will be." What's the point if everyone else can do the same things?
Also, people might hate me, but I find the plot of Sorrow games to be super goofy. You might frown on this, but it's mostly from the added Japanese elements. Obviously the Castlevania series is a Japanese made series, but the story itself is European. I just find things like Alucard is working with Japanese government or Dracula was sealed because of the help of Japanese shrine to be silly. Castlevania has always been silly but this is too silly. I don't have issues with Dracula was killed in 1999 and he's trying to be reincarnated but again the Japanese elements are goofy. Finally, Julius mode in DoS is the real cannon ending.
Look I know some of these things are for gameplay reasons and that's fine but the Vampire Killer and Belmonts should still be like top dog spot.
Ok end rant.
I can get on board with this. I've always disliked the Sorrow titles. They just feel WAY too removed from what Castlevania's origins were. It plays out too much like anime melodrama instead of tongue in cheek, wink-wink japanese b-movie takes on Hammer Horror/Universal Monsters.
To be honest, I don't understand why Konami has kept Requiem under a Sony Exclusivity deal. I'd love to play Requiem on the Switch.
I can't remember where I read/heard about it, but supposedly, Sony funded Requiem/Dracula X Chronicles, which is why those two haven't been rereleased elsewhere. Why they don't port to PC at the very least is beyond me, but yeah, supposedly they have some sort of exclusive agreement. I think it has something to do with the English dub specifically, as Rondo has been released on Wii VC in the past, as well as the TG16 mini. Very strange.
