With USB cable

Voice of same idea?

(I know replacing the circuit board with 3rd-party/reproduction generic USB controller things from late PS2 era somehow works, but their quality levels are not very measurable at last;
 Second, the core players (me included) who love this original PS1 controller design eager to see a thing like this came out by Sony official;
 And it is at least a good thing to see this very classic design back with strong voice from Sony official)

I dunno. Most games today that work with gamepads virtually require analog sticks, and if you weren't going to use them because the game you're playing doesn't support them, then you just don't use the ones you have.

This would basically be a small-scale money sink for Sony, and they'd probably struggle to sell over 2,000 of these globally. From the time it's announced to the time it's released, the harsh fist of reality would have crashed down on 99% of people who might have gotten revv'd up by the nostalgia factor. Unless it was available literally 3 days to a week after it was announced, people would realize they don't actually have a use for it and nobody would buy it, preferring to buy a dedicated gamepad that actually does things.

Neat idea, but there'd be no way for Sony to make money on it.

Just get a PS2 to USB adaptor. I got mine for less than $5 years and years ago and it's worked perfectly with every PS1 and PS2 controller I've tried. Most PC games that use pads come pre-configured for the Xbox controllers though it seems. So if you wanted to use one with most games you'll also have to use joy2key or a similar program.

I'm not satisfying about the delay problem on most adaptors. Maybe what I bought is always faulty ones, but the experience was really out of my control.
Anyway, I still think the advent of an official USB re-release of the original playstation controller model, for PC usage, is eventually needed.

But why is it needed? What can one of these do that modern gamepads can't? Without a good answer for that, Sony has zero reason to resurrect these for PC. This is doubly true because most gamepad-supporting PC games are designed around either the Xbox 360 controller for older games or the Xbox One controller for newer ones. It's taken well over a decade for Steam to natively support a PlayStation controller at all, and that list starts and ends with first and third party gamepads for the PS4. And even though Steam supports them natively, game developers probably won't until a large enough segment of the playerbase adopts them.

So maybe I'm just missing something critical here. Did someone explain it and I just missed it?

What is the unique advantage of a PS1 controller on PC when more modern options are available in abundance? Is this just an "I want this" deal? Because I accept that, but I'm not grasping the need quotient here.

OK. I'm sorry about it and It's just my one-way thought, since generic USB controller device can't satisfy my (sometimes-too-specific) experience...Maybe it is my problem... or maybe not.

Sega did USB re-release for Saturn controller (I only heard sort of it, I can't get a real thing but a repro...If not true please correct me). Not to say Sony must have something to do... but it's really a shame.

No need to apologize, you didn't do anything wrong. We're all here to share our thoughts and opinions. And yeah I think it would be cool if they did a re-release like this. It'd make sense to start capitalizing on PS1 nostalgia since that system is now as old as the NES was when I first remember seeing NES nostalgia start popping up. And of course, as a disc-based system Sony has even more reason to start re-releasing all the PS1 games digitally since the medium will not hold up as well as those that are cartridge based. I know, BOTH my PS1's are broken leaving me with just my PS2s to play my 40-odd PS1 games.

Yeah. I agree. Do it Sony, my PS4 is ready. :)

As for myself, my PS1 is alive but I have to connect it to the power converter since it is 110 watts and the only TV that can operate it is my small portable DVD player. lol. And I'm too lazy to do those.
My PS2 is in heaven... /sob and I have a bunch of unfinished games.

Actually I want to talk to Sony official about the little idea But I can't find a proper way to let them know. What kind of way should I use (I'm in other region)?
Some of my friends said that I should pay fee for product module designing and provide details on the print of design structure but I think Sony official has the responsibility to handle it if they really decided to push this thing to public.

EDIT: If there's a chance I also want Sony official to resurrect this mechanical monster on PC

A cheap and generic 10-button USB gamepad controller chip  board is at my hand. I'd rather mod one than to be greedy on Sony official if I had chance. Dang.

Super Waffle YEEEEEESSSSSSSS!!! Saturn controller is the shit! I use one on PC and it's flawless!

As for a USB PS1 pad, it'd be fun but unnecessary. I'm not a fan at all of it's dpad but I know ppl who would love it for 2D games. Still it'd make sense to release it if they had PS1 classics on PS4 (or do what PS3 did and let you use your godamned PS1 discs, but Sony isn't that cool anymore lol)

Yes and yes. It's Sony official's undoing that we lost considerable amount of great external devices. Have been thinking if we had chance to let them know the stuff.

I'm a fan of the PS1 classic controller style (the first model without analog stick) and the playstation-style 4 face buttons.
A real thing of Sega Saturn USB gamepad is rather difficult to buy in my region, but I will dig deeper for more... Not a serious fan of 6 face buttons but d-pad is great.

3rd party models of SNES style USB gamepad nowadays really work well, but sans PS1 style ones (most PS1 style ones nowadays are low-quality reproductions - I don't know why, and that's my reason of writing this thread).

Those official Sega Play ones are tricky to find. If you have non-USB Saturn pads lying around this adapter works great and does PS2 and N64 as well (same ports obviously but not sure if PS1 is compatible)
