its not too late.  with DQX now on PS4, english on PS4 can happen, and the PS4 communities can make it happen if enough requests are sent out to SE.

http://www.dqx.jp/

can also send requests on their twitter

https://twitter.com/squareenix?lang=en
https://twitter.com/SquareEnixUSA
https://twitter.com/square_enix_eu?lang=en

years ago fans requested, though they didnt grasp the right avenues to get most of the interest aware and motivated to contact SE.

but now people can get more people interested to send polite requests so a larger demand gets noticed.  it can happen with enough people sending Square Enix requests for Dragon Quest X localization in North America and Europe.

the game is already ported to PS4, it's just a matter of localizing it.

fan demand made FF Type 0 not only get a port but also localization on consoles, DQX can get localized on PS4 in english, it just requires enough people asking Square Enix for it.

yea DQXI is coming in sept,  but that is not DQX and lacks the character creation, diversity of races to play as, community co-op and tons of other things exclusive to DQX.
DQX is a one of a kind masterpiece that the NA and EU regions (and possibly other regions) deserve to be able to play too.
also, DQXI selling well could further encourage them to localize DQX afterwards.  So it is important for the PS4 community (and even Switch community) to request localization in english from Square Enix.    and it would be ok having DQX alongside FFXIV.  the money DQX makes would still go to SE anyways.   besides there are those that would subscribe to both FFXIV and DQX.
overall they should not underestimate the millions of PS4 owners that would play DQX, even if its like 200,000+ or 500,000+, that still accumulates profits over time.
Plus there can be cross promotion deals and stuff like that.  Overall, SE is an industry giant, they can afford to invest in DQX in english in the west can win big.
Square Enix Japan already did all the hard work porting it to PS4, Square Enix USA/Europe just gotta make it english compatible.  yea sure they gotta provide english servers too, but that is easier to do than developing an RPG from scratch.    the subscription base will help them recover from any expenses.

plus SE are masters of marketing.  Glorify and treat Dragon Quest X as awesome, and the west will be excited for it.
money is no object for fun, and FFXIV proves there is interest in subscription based mmorpgs on console, especially a mmorpg with Akira Toriyama art style, it already has tons of charisma and charm and with customization and features every game should have.  plus it would create an all new english social community and fanbase too.

I'm still waiting for Dragon Quest's 1 & 2 anthology re-release. They did that on the super famicom but we never got it over here. I played the rom with a translation patch but that patch freezes the game at a certain point so I've never been able to finish the game. Same with the famicom Dragon quest 3. There's a translation patch out for it but due to some stupid bug that only works on SNES9 emulator I can't get past the translation programmer's intro screen. kinda pathetic really.

well of course with anything Dragon Quest, cant hold one's breath, though would say if the western consumers supported the series and SE would dedicate bringing the series over, then there would be mutual advantage that would elevate the series relevance and support in the west.

so SE should test the waters at least each gen, though yea both sides gotta commit in order for the series to prosper.

The west loves Dragon Ball.
Akira Toriyama did the DQ character designs.
Squeenix can earn more money.
DQ fans can finally play in english.
Win win for everyone.

If DQ gets an English localization, then I hope they follow with Itadaki Street (FF DQ 30th anniversary). It's hard playing in Chinese.

DQX is actually the only MMORPG I’ve ever been interested in, so I would definitely buy it if the PS4 version was localized. I must however say that I lost hope years ago, but yeah...SE have been bringing us a lot of DQ lately, so perhaps if DQXI sells reasonably well, they’ll go for it this time. It always bothered me to be able to play every entry in a series except one.

(Reminds me of that time when Konami skipped Suikoden III for european localization... I did import it of course, but it still annoys me that we got I, II, IV and V, but not III...)

That was kinda the same deal with Final fantasy. And only recently as the late 90's/early 2000's were we able to get all of the old series of games localised. It shouldn't have been a issus to begin with.
