(not all games, some).

Romancing Saga is ultra amazing in a lot of ways (the ORIGINAL, not the PS2 remake!  the PS2's redesigned characters and models are awful! so awful even for superdeformed art! its inexcusable the direction they went with the models and presentation!  it woulda been 1000% more appealing if they went with more realistic models based on the original character designs!  so as of now, only the original deserves respect. well Romancing Saga 2 was somewhat a step backwards, but Romancing Saga 3 did learn more from the original, which enhanced itself further),

sure there are some game with multiple protagonists to choose from (like Seiken Densetsu 3, Star Ocean 2, etc.), but none of them dedicated choice to the degree Romancing SaGa did things, AND without resorting to character creation. (plus SD3 was capped at like 6 protags, while SO2 only had two. still above and beyond what most devs do, but still Romancing Saga's 8 is a standard that anyone can achieve. )

So it goes to show even a character driven game can have multiple protagonists to choose to play as from their perspective, and still have a cohesive playthrough

and having a more open ended and flexible plot makes things even more interesting and replayable.
Romancing SaGa example isn't replicated and learned from by various game/RPG developers and stuff.

theres a lot of treasures within that can be learned and refined upon.  its much more fascinating than the sole protagonist format most devs be doing.
and copying the same 'center of the universe' protagonist trope, while something like Romancing SaGa as a much more mature and omniscient mindset towards different lives and individuals, with a symbolic message that each individual is the protagonist of their own life and can make the difference.

if Romancing SaGa's strengths were adopted in more games/RPGs, we would have much more amazing games with more amazing possibilities.

That reminds me a little of Final Fantasy Mystique Quest. Or old school final Fantasy over all. And yeah the SD art of the remakes is kinda out there  :-\
