Whoa! That looks awesome!

Doubly so for me, cuz I liked Curse of the Moon much better than Ritual of the Night

And wow, that actually looks like you are playing Mega Man in some instances!

It does have Dominique as Lecarde tho :D

Wonder if it will have teasers for a potential Ritual of the Night sequel in it.  Maybe the new characters will show up there?

I just wish Konami would say “wow, curse of the moon did this thing and it was successful enough to warrant a sequel, maybe it’d be worth doing it for Castlevania.”

You attribute too much competence to Konami execs in harboring such a hope. Just sayin’

They did a stream yesterday showing off the two player co-op and it was pretty neat!

It showed off the second stage, the game in English, gameplay of Dominique, and  (for a few seconds accidentally) all the names of the episodes in the file select.  XD

I wonder, what's the deal with Blue Zangetsu? Is it literally just P2 Zangetsu?

From what they said on Twitter, yeah.  Just player 2.

whoa huh this comes out in two weeks? I thought that was just the teaser trailer and it wouldn't be out for like a year.

Same, did not realize the first time I looked that the release date is in a few weeks. Sounds good to me!

The Friday after next, if all goes well...which isn't a certainty, but does seem likely.

Inti Creates got the first game out just a few weeks after revealing it for the first time, so I wasn't expecting it to be too long. I think the only issue here was that the first trailer just said "Coming Soon" and the like, three days later, there's a trailer with a release date. Like, y'all didn't just finalize a date within 72 hours, you knew a bit longer than that. :p

Yeah, that was kinda weird, lmao.  I guess they wanted to save the date announcement, along with confirming co-op and the old gang coming back for the BG stream to go along with GV3.

They’ll have another stream in the 7th (dunno if I’ll watch, I don’t want to be spoiled too much XD) before it comes out.

I actually got my office put together enough to stream this game when it comes out. It's the first game I've been truly excited about in 2020 thus far.

Cool beans about streaming the game!

One more day!  Wooo!

I'm absolutely stoked for the title. Hoping to get to it this weekend so I can write up stuff about it. Always nice where there's any new Castlevania content, and since Konami seems to only want to put out mobile games now, I'll take what IGA is selling.

Curse of the Moon: First taste was free...

Hey how did the Angry Nintendo Nerd already make a video review for this when it's only been out for a matter of hours?

They probably get an advanced copy. They're not un-famous, after all.

Finished the first episode. Not bad so far although I don't think the new characters of Robert and Hachi are that great. Robert is weak and kinda pathetic at platforming, while Hachi would be good if his jump weren't so finicky (hold the a button slightly too long and you're committed to his hover). Some of the bosses are also really obnoxious, which holds me back from absolutely loving this adventure so far.

Post by: Gunlord on July 11, 2020, 04:25:14 PM
Yeah, I don't like Hachi's controls. I wish it was more like a double jump, i.e press the button again rather than hold to hover. The game is still awsum tho.

Hachi is love, Hachi is life.

I got through the first 5 levels fairly effortlessly, then got stuck on level 6 for around 2 hours. They send you wayyyyy too far back when you die at the boss.

Enjoying the new character lineup a lot so far. The character swap system and the balancing of the characters makes it feel like there is always a different strategy to try when things aren't going your way. The differences between the characters feel more pronounced this time, but they also compliment each other really well.

Hopefully I'll have time to finish the game this week.

what I really liked about the first one is how the different endings had unique final bosses

This game got me to finally sign up for Steam. Paid and purchased. Go to install. Not Mac compatible. Sad. Died.

we’re getting a “legend mode” at the end of the month.  looks like a hard mode to me with extra enemies and stuff.

https://youtu.be/NwiXDTW8KxY (https://youtu.be/NwiXDTW8KxY)

Edit:  Oh, it’s got extra enemies in it because the enemies respawn.  Also, you lose an entire life when any character dies.  It’s also out today.

They need to add an option that lets you press up and attack for a subweapon.

so i just realized something after playing the first few episodes of this, i think the added character count tipped me off.
people say curse of the moon plays like CV3 or TMNT nes, but these are people who never played wai wai world.

wai wai world/konami world similarities
- rescue characters to add to your team?  check.
- switch who you play as on the fly?  got it.
- assorted upgrades to pick up through the game?  of course.
(click to show/hide)
- team up against OP final boss?  absolutely.

it seems they took the template from the 1988 famicom game and smoothed it out a whole lot, which is just what we needed.
wai wai world was even multi-player, which made this a logical next step for curse of the moon.

once i saw this screen, i dropped what i was doing and called a friend who also dropped everything.
the multi-player mechanics aren't clunky and there's a lot of "hell yeah, teamwork" moments.

try it out, you'll see just how similar it is.

also found a number of gradius references...
the "mad moai" enemy, complete with demon horns

moai head platforms from the same stage

this one is kind of a double reference -

- a secret from stage 4 in gradius, very subtle
(https://cdn.wikimg.net/en/strategywiki/images/6/68/Gradius_NES_Stage41.gif)

the entire area feels like planet ratis from salamander/life force, solar flares and all
(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.vgmpf.com%2FWiki%2Fimages%2Fc%2Fc7%2FLife_Force_-_ARC_-_Stage_3.png&hash=7937734ee347022677f2a5cf6316141a)

it just so happens that iga got his start with konami working on gradius 2.
it's nice to see he hasn't forgotten his roots.

oh man, you're gonna love the boss...  one of the worst of them.

once you get hachi, there are parts that almost require his invincibility power.
most of these are long, straight hallways.  go invincible and just run through, focusing on the jumps.
yes it seems kind of cheap, but the game's difficulty seems to demand it at times...

keep your hearts, er, WEAPON POINTS stocked up and you'll be okay.
