Yeah a game like this needs a north american and europe release, do yall know if it's gonna be a rerelease of the first one or a new game?

if someone could get a better scan you could see something, but given that it's square-enix, it's probably a port/remake.

What's wrong with a remake? Their remakes of late have shown alot of effort and appreciation for the fans.

i was talking about the likelihood of it being something new, not how terrible ports and remakes are.

so if i got this straight, snes version, none of the new endings from chronicles, uses both screens and the stylus(probably replaces the password system of the snes version), a new dungeon and some wireless(probably like racing johnny) mode.

Confirmed (http://kotaku.com/5021416/square-enix-confirms-chrono-trigger-ds)

It will be bought.

It also explains the whole Square cease-and-desist stuff against Chrono Resurrection.  I guess they were waiting for the right moment?

My nephew's going to be very happy.

Maybe they'll make the third game.  Chrono Cross was pretty good as well.

The DS is the new SNES.  It seems to have the soul of the SNES, Gameboy, GBA, and N64 right in that little clamshell body it has.

In reply to Jorge's post

Sweeeeeet. I'll def. be picking this upon it's release date.

Quote
I can only hope that the Japanese and North American release of the game eventually leads to a version for PAL regions, who have never had the chance to play either of the Chrono titles.

What!? that's just wrong. Why hasn't europe and the other pal regions got to play these games? They're no worse than FF content wise and the plot owns.

Awesome!!!!! :o

Chrono Triger is one of my most favorite Snes RPG's games ever!! I just can't wait. DS seems to get good with RPG games, since so many are coming this year!

I was talkin to a friend in RL about this yesterday and he agreed with me so now I guess Ill ask here. But whats the big deal with this game? I tried to play it like countless times over the years and just cant see whats so great about it. He said the same thing yesterday.

So what is it? Why is this so high on the greatest of all times rpgs lists everytime? I just dont get it. Is it nostalgia that makes it seem so much more awesome than it actually is or somethin?

Well its not nostalgia...i just played the game (ps1 version) about 3 years ago. I loved it to death...i was almost inclined to play through again to snag another ending but chrono Cross beckoned (and disappointed). The game is just solid: every character is versatile, the battle system never gets old, and the adventure is excellent. (Pardon the pun)...i chose not to say story because the characters where not as involved as i would have liked...well that doesn't explain it exactly, i just had an issue with the leftover members chillin' at the end of time. Overall: something felt missing.

Im might pick this up if the load times are non-existent. (boy, there were times in the ps1 port that i chose not to enter the menu to same my life)

well since it's gonna be on ds load times shouldn't be an issue as the console just reads the code off the cart (one of the plus's of cart based consoles) and puts it up on the screen, no moviing parts like disk drives so the load time should be nonexistent and once the game boots up it should just play out with no breaks (except for intentional, or unintentional accidental ones like dying)

Chrono Trigger never had passwords for saving the game.

I'm very pleased about Chrono Trigger's re-release.
Even if they don't add anything, which wouldn't have to be a bad thing, it has more than enough quality to warrant a purchase.
I'm hoping for pal release, I'll even buy a DS for it, just to finally be able to support that great game (and playing it again of course. The Castlevania games had me on the brink of buying a DS, but now there is no other option)

the ds isn't really region locked, and doesn't have any ntsc/pal separation so you can always import it from usa.

The battle system, the story, the atmosphere, almost everything on this game is awesome. Just imagine that a friend of mine, who hates RPG's, he played this one and found it awesome!!

This is the best damn news I have heard in a very long time.  Chrono Trigger is probably one of the best Super NES games of all time only rivaled by Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past and Final Fantasy VI.  I think its an amazing RPG and I do believe this could give the DS an even bigger kick in the ass since its started to dwindle off.  I honestly would like to see a full 3D remake like they did with Final Fantasy III and IV for the DS but it would probably really piss off a lot of hardcore CT fans.  Its just I own a copy of Chrono Trigger on the SNES still and my SNES still works.  Then also why the hell doesn't Square-Enix just release Chrono Trigger on the Virtual Console instead of putting touch screen functionality and an extra dungeon in the same game.

I mean they could've easily had released it on the Virtual Console for $8 and then made a full 3D remake.  No matter the issue this is great news for anyone who has played and loves this game.  Its even better news if you own the shoddy ass Final Fantasy Chronicles port of CT that had those awful loading times (it was enough for me to pay the $30 for a legitimate SNES copy and to trade that piece of garbage in).  The SNES version of the game so far is the definitive version of the game.  I just hope Square doesn't release this on Virtual Console and the DS, that would definitely suck if they make it for DS w/o any graphical enhancements then they better not release it on the VC as well.

for starters, not just the battle system, but the system designed for enemy encounters. no random battles, what you see is what you fight, and at times you get surprised, a lot(on your first playthrough). it's also not an irritation, you end up looking forward to battles because they happen when they do, not every 2 steps.

then there's the double/triple techniques. with the right combination of characters you can do a triple team move on bosses for big damage.

the game is time travel centric. unlike other games where you go back in time once and eventually wind up back in the present, traveling between past, present, and future is a huge part of this game. you even get a flying time machine so you can further explore each era, and easily jump between time periods, when you need to do something in the same spot in a different era. this feature and the enemy encounter system, i think, if re-used would have been all that was really necessary to turn people on to chrono cross.

another aspect of time travel, the present, and 400 years in the past, are so linked that optional actions taken in 600 a.d. affect the year 1000 a.d.

15 different endings depending on when you beat the final boss, usually most are only attainable during a new game+.

it was a really well crafted game that i could continue playing, and this is coming from someone who's burning out on the genre. others i could recommend, that i would still play even now, are the first few suikodens(not that i got anything against 5, it's just too damn long for me),grandia 2(1 and 3 require too much grinding, for different reasons), and brave story on the psp, despite the childish aura it gives off.

Well, like every RPG it takes a bit to really get it going. How far into it did you play? The whole game is great, but I think it really starts to get into gear as soon as you get to the future.

I only played it for 2-3 hours or somethin I think the farthest I ever got was right after you travel back in time the very first time and it just felt like a chore to continue.
