So I just got my Steam Controller yesterday.

So I just got my Steam Controller delivered today. As a Playstation and Xbox gamepad veteran, learning to use this thing is like trying to reverse engineer an alien spacecraft when you've just barely figured transistors out.

I'm digging the customisation of the thing and the way it's super comfortable in my hands. Unfortunately, getting used to the dual trackpads, single analog stick, dual-stage triggers, weirdly positioned face buttons, and the pair of grip paddles all at once has successfully turned me back into a n00b on even the games I was most badass at. Probably the most shameful example for me is that I had to drop from Legendary Difficulty on Skyrim all the way down to Novice just so my butchered and inexperienced reaction time with the unfamiliar setup would stop killing me against common bandits.

Other games, like Mad Max, Fallout 4, and Team Fortress 2, seem a bit more intuitive in figuring out just which control scheme works best for me -- an awkward half hour or so in each and I was cruising along at maybe 80% of my usual level, which will doubtlessly improve with experience.

So far, I've tried out multiple control schemes for Wolfenstein: The New Order, and I haven't found or come up with anything that's remotely playable, even in single player on the easiest goddamn difficulty -- sliding and changing weapons are just difficult to assign in a way that seems intuitive to me. Fortunately, I still have my Xbox controller in the worst case scenario, but I'll be putting in plenty of practice in the coming weeks.

The controller is a lot of fun, partly because it seems like some salvaged alien tech, but there are definitely some games that it doesn't seem to be as well suited for.

For those who own one, what do you think of your Steam Controller?
How not to be a dark lord: the answer to that is a terribly interesting answer that involves an almost Jedi-like adherence to keeping oneself under control and finding ways to be true to yourself in a way that doesn't encourage the worst parts of you to become dangerously exaggerated and instead feeds your better nature. Also, protip: don't fuck with Alchemy or strike up any deals with ancient Japanese Shinigami gods no matter how tempting the deal or how suavely dressed the Shinigami is.

I was pretty pumped to see that Steam was making a controller and that it was highly configurable but when I actually _saw_ it I pretty much erased all thoughts of it from my mind. Id like to tinker with it and see it how I feel about it hands on but Im not about to buy one just for that

And this is coming from a guy that uses a controller for EVERYTHING. I even play MMOs with it
