Hello people! I am doing a small poll of what people think is the hardest Classicvania game ever.
-
How you want a right answer withou putting them as a option? Insert Vampire Killer and Haunted Castle and then I can choose one of these two :P
Welcome to the dungeon and enjoy your stay ^^
If you really meant to exclude these 2 then I will vote in Dracula X for SNES.
-
Akumajo Dracula (X68000).
-
Not SCIV, that's for sure.
-
If you were to count it, Haunted Castle wins by a good margin I think, because it was a shamelessly cheap quarter chompin' arcade game. Adventure is hard for all the wrong reasons i.e. laggy controls. Perhaps from overestimating the abilities of the Gameboy. Of those listed 3 and X are definitely the hardest.
-
For me it's a tie-up between CV 1 and SNES DX. however I've played DX enough times to know the layout of the enemies and traps so it's not as hard as before. But CV 1 is still torture.
-
Haunted Castle is the toughest, but of the choices you listed, I'm gonna' go with Dracula X, which, by the way, I think is a pretty dope game. Not as good as Rondo, but I've grown to have quite an appreciation for it.
-
I'm gonna go with Simon's Quest. It's really the only Classicvania I've never completely finished, and out of the choices that are present, it's the one I've not played enough to have any kind of a good idea of its layout and the like. Personally, I think Haunted Castle and The Adventure are the two hardest (the latter simply because it has to be done in one playthrough in addition to its awkward controls. Haunted Castle at least played pretty smoothly).
-
i'd go with either Chronicles Original mode or Haunted Castle. Neither of which I've been able to beat. :-X
-
Chronicles Original mode have changes other than music, Simon and Dracula sprites?
-
Chronicles Original Mode is different in many ways to the Arranged Mode, including that in order to see the true ending you have to do like 11 loops, and then Simon Belmont appears smoking in a kind of bizarre drawing.
I never did that. But I'm aware of its existence.
However, if all you have to do is beat it once, then Haunted Castle is way harder, because I could only do that using save states emulating it, while I did beat Chronicles Original Mode. Not without trouble, but I did it.
And that's why I voted for Haunted Castle.
-
You know some another change? I know about this smoke portait, it seems to appear in a stage after doing various loops like you mentioned, I've not seem it yet too.

Yes, the most fundamental change resides in the higher difficulty.

Castlevania Adventure.

Why is there no option of the X68000 game, Legends, Belmont's Revenge, Adventure Rebirth and Rondo of Blood?
In my personal opinion, at least X68000 and Legends are way more difficult than CV1 and Bloodlines.
I'd even say that Bloodlines is the easiest ClassicVania game.
-
Akumajo Dracula (X68000).
I second this. It's harder than Adventure. I'm currently playing on the third loop.
Adventure Rebirth on hard with classic mode and one life is probably the hardest challenge I've attempted so far. I've yet to make it past stage 3.

In one life? No way! It made me sweat really hard to get to Dracula using several continues, I could never do it in one life! The best I could do with one life is the same as you, I guess (beat 2 stages).
You must be a great player!

I still haven't played ReBirth (or Judgement) because I don't have a Wii. Must be a pretty good game if you're using it as a challenge like that, hope I can get it before Nintendo pulls down their service.

Dunno, the sheer fact that you don't have infinite continues makes Bloodlines more frustrating if not actually more difficult to me. I'd say SCV4 is way easier in any case. I found Legends to be pretty easy to. But X68000 is one difficult mamma jamma no doubt about that.
-
I guess at first it can be frustrating, but once you learn it, even Very Hard Mode is beatable in 1 continue.
SCV4 too tends to get easy when you learn everything.
Rebirth in Hard and Classic Mode is something I'd recommend to every CV fan.

Actually, with one life I meant that you instantly have to restart a stage when you die, so no respawning at check points. :P

Anyway, that's extremely difficult, I could never get pass Stage 5 in Hard Classic Mode without check points, so if you manage to beat it, that will be an awesome achievement, because not many people can do that.
-
The major problem in stage 5 is lack of time.
-
It's been several years (at least 3 I think) since I really played Bloodlines. I wasn't as skilled or persistent a gamer in those days and I think I used cheats to get to some of the later stages. All this talk is making me want to hook up my Genesis and give it another try, legit this time.
-
I'd like to do that with Circle of the Moon and once and for all beat that arena stage!
I thought Nagumo was talking about Rebirth in Hard Classic Mode.
At least, I was :)
But no matter if Bloodlines is not very hard or in a less powerful console, it's still one of my all-time favourites together with Rebirth, Rondo and X68000.
-
Well, I was talking about Rebirth in these last posts.
-
Me too.

Vampire Killer, Chronicles and CVA2 should be in this poll. My choice is a toss up between Vampire Killer and Haunted Castle. Both games are insanely difficulty with god awful controls and hit detection. After that CVA is third which is another grueling experience.
