Title: [Music Poll] SotN or Super CV IV
Post by: Chernabogue on April 17, 2014, 02:47:29 AM
Those two are considered to be the best out there.

So which one is the best to you? The atmospheric one from CV IV? Or the modern and gothic from SotN?

Goddammit Chernabgue did you have to put these two together in competition?!  :o  I can't choose between either one. Both game had the best tracks in the series and there's no way I could choose one over the other. Aww man... No way I'll be able to pick one over the other. I can't be done. It defies the sacred law of videogames. A calamity waiting to happen!

Castlevania 4, every time. I just love the jazzy nature of it. I also love the way those Konami SNES synths sound.

People are probably going to hate me but I think they're both overrated. However, SotN is more fun. I beat SCV4 once and that was good enough for me.

And on a musical point of view? (which is the aim of the topic)

SoTN was great, but SCIV was unique.

Regardless, Lament and Curse are missing from this list.

I just saw it was music boy do I feel dumb. In fact if someone could erase my original post that would be great. Anywho I still like SotN music better but I do enjoy Simon's theme.

This is not even a debate. SCIV for me for I remember most of the songs so yeah but the waterfall theme oh man I just want to play that on piano so badly but I would not even begin where to start on it I don't have pitch hearing and I don't want to see someone else music sheet either.

SCIV, although it was a tough decision:

The general cohesion it has wrapping all of the levels together and complimenting the settings, really shows the amount of work used in creating such a good feeling.
I also like how limited the resources were in comparision to SotN given they were released 6 years apart.

This does not detract my stance on SotN's soundtrack. Just comparing the two came down to how immersive the overall experience was.

However, ill have to agree with Intersection that LoI needs a place on this list as well.

I vote Super Castlevania. I like soundtracks that are atmospheric, I like soundtracks that are memorable. Guess which one is both?

SOTN music is good but scv4 is on a whole other level.

It wasn't bad, but now that I think, SCV4 did use tracks in previous castlevanias, while sotn only used, uh... 1 that was from RoB.

The only 2 tracks i remember from SCV4 are the main theme and the vampire killer theme.. everything else is  just some weird organ 16 bit music,its just so un-castlevania like it puts me to sleep.

ROB had killer Kickass Redbook original CD quality music and the remixes of best Castelvania themes(i think it has more NES remixes than SC4) and symphony of the night has even better soundtrack... SC4 stands no chance and yet somehow i see the poll is biased towards SC4 which is insane.. nostalgia is a bad judge!

Which, of course, is nothing more than your personal opinion, as you can't speak for people who legitimatelly like SCIV's OST better than SotN. It's not always about sound quality, son. Composition, harmony and melody play a huge role too, and SCIV pulls it off with flying colors.

I just don't see how anyone who is neutral about castlevania like me can prefer SC4's soundtrack over SOTN,it has some of the most boring,drab soundtracks in all of Castlevania.

Castlevania music generally is rock/synth and something that is just exhilarating and energetic not this boring moody 16 bit organ composition of SC4,in fact its like an oddball in the entire series.

SOTN stays true to the originals in terms of the soundtrack and contrary to your opinion the sound quality makes it excellent.

Just for comparison's sake just compare Bloody tears from SOTN to SC4 :-

SC4= https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOWUSsFar-s (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOWUSsFar-s)
SOTN= https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgkxSkF7QOU (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgkxSkF7QOU)
ROB= https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqWW0PTkjR8 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqWW0PTkjR8)

SC4's blood tears sounds like its muffled or something its not even better than the ROB red book version SOTN's bloody tears sounds excellent.

ROB's Vampire killer puts SC4's vampire killer to shame.
ROB= https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vlayiIBH75o (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vlayiIBH75o)
SC4= https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5mMEyMoXB0 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5mMEyMoXB0)

Seriously objectively speaking SC4 has some of the least impressive soundtracks in the entire series.
