Title: CV2 Optomon and Thaddeus hack "new" video

MooMilk found a "new" video about this CV2 hack:
New in quotes because its not something made nowadays, but its new because was not shown before. Did this thread because I saw this in another fangame thread and found it to be kinda disrespectful to discuss about this there.
Also this way more people will notice it. ;)

When I first saw it I thought it was a pc fangame. That gives alot of testimony to the guys use of colors. I never guessed it was a nes hack. He must have done some sprite piling to get so many colors on some of those sprites. Alot of effort went into the hack obviously. I hope they pick up the hack again sometime.
I have tried alot of Sonic hacks that just add a new character or new features and have enjoyed replaying old games I like in new ways.

I still feel crushed that all that ever became of this was nothing. This is too good a hack to quite. Heck! It's too good a hack to even call it a hack. I really, really want to see this come to fruition. If they do plan on continuing it (and I hope they do) they'll do-so very soon. Seriously this thing's too good to quite.

I can't say if this hack really is a project of Optmon and Thaddeus, mainly because Optomon released the ost and sprites to free use a time ago, and in contrary of this hack, the Simon's sprite was already edited.
Optomon deleted the gameplay videos showing the current progress a long time ago (the video was very, very old, more than 8 years, i've saw this video when i was attending middle school :D)

The environments look beautiful for an 8 bit game. I seriously hope Simon's Quest gets a proper remake someday.

Can be hinted that neither him or thaddeus are envolved with this hack.

Fuck, how incredible and foreboding that world feels and reverse-engineering Crystal Castle into that instrumentation ::the pleased gesture a chef makes of kissing his bunched fingertips and spreading them as he jerks his hand away::.
Thadd's spin on CastleVania was grimy, dark, suitable, and umistakable. I'm grateful for his presence within the DCTP family during its heyday.

I think you might be looking from the wrong angle. Its exactly because he commented on this video and said this that proves this is indeed his hack, I think he meant that only two people have his old ROM files. :v
Also, he doesnt seem unhappy, but kinda impressed. If we follow his hint, this channel is from Thaddeus himself or the third unknown person. Simon sprites being outdated means that its an older build (or Simon sprites wasn't ever added to the hack prior to its cancellation)?

I am surprised there was a video for this. I remember when this was on optomon's youtube channel, there were only still shots of this hack accompanied of the great music he remixed for it. Too bad it never got completed, it looked and looks great.

Seems to me more like he is surprised anyone other than him and Thaddeus have anything to post since it belongs to them and no one else. Aka, whoever posted this has a rom that they shouldn't have been able to get.

I'm really doubtful that only Optomon and Thaddeus had it, otherwise he would say that knew only one person that had it (its quite strange to count himself in this type of sentence).
If the music and resources are on the internet now, chances are that someone put together a sample to see what the game might have been like since no-one got a chance to play it. It would also account for the regular CV II Simon sprite rather then the hack Simon sprite.
But its almost impossible to recreate something that we've never seen apart from still pictures so close to the original, that its own original creator would say its the same thing, don't you think?

Yeah, if someone is using those screens for references he or she can recreate almost exactly the original game. Give or take and element or two.

These screens are known by many, what Im saying is that with only screen you can't make the exact same game, simply because it only shows a fraction of screen, not even a entire one. But yeah, they are really good and shows how its possible to do amazing things with a low amount of colors.
I'm not saying its impossible to do something inspired by these images, but doing things that aren't shown and still having Optomon acknowledging it as the same game is. It would be the same thing of using Bloodlines zeppeliin stage's screenshot alone to recreate an entire area that we don't know the design, show it to some Konami employee that worked at it and they say "Wow, its the same thing" :P
Probability nears 0, so I think without being in touch with Optomon or Thaddeus (or having more data) its not possible to do the exact same thing, but something similar is totally possible.

Not too eager to resurrect this topic, but this is somewhat related to the video in question(which appears to be deleted at the moment), so opening a new thread with one already existing seems to me about as much of a dick move as a lil' bit of thread necromancy. Actually, I'd say that's a pretty good reason to perform some necromancy. This hack could have been epic. Hell, just applying these graphics and room layouts to the translation patch would be down right wondrous to see.

I don't know any of his plans personally as I don't ask on what he's doing outside of CoA reboot as that stuff is none of my business lol. Only stuff I know is what we all read and hear upon this thread :)
For Thaddeus, that Ivar the Boneless guy on YouTube (or was) was suspected to be Thaddeus himself. I did try to reach out to him and see if he would allow me to resurrect the hack once my projects were done but got no word back. I thought about offering help to Optomon himself to see if I could offer anything to help finish the project sprite wise but hesitant to ask especially with everyone hounding him about tons of stuff I don't have that as a high priority :)
In the end, we all just have to sit around and wait patiently. Its been what...8 years or so since Bloodlust first saw the light of day on the internet? I know we all can hang around a bit longer to see if Optomon to work on it and hopefully Thaddeus comes out of his shell to do stuff again :)

Thanks for all the info guys. I remember really looking forward to that hack...I mean who wouldn't. I hope we get to see it one day but if not..well that's cool too. Keep fighting the good fight gentlemen!????
