So I just started playing CV Judgment and I think it's a really fun game. At first I was like:

But now I'm like:
:-D
It's fun. The characters are pretty easy to use, and while I hate some of the designs, much like Castlevania Puzzle, Pachislot, or The Arcade, I think it's a cool diversion from the normal series. Flame away...
I really do think it's a worthy entry into the Castlevania series though. It's a good look to have different kinds of games present in a series and Judgment is definitely different as far as CV is concerned. But I think they did do a good job with it. It's really kind of like Smash Bros but for the CV series and they really did a good job putting a lot of fanservice into the game, which is basically the whole point. I don't think they meant it to be a serious effort in the CV cannon, but it's something fun for the fans, and I think the game itself was kind of misunderstood, but that's just me.

I also enjoyed it for what it was, and I pretty much agree with your point of view.
I first I didn't like it, really. Only the music.
But in time, the game catched me, because, well... it's Castlevania, after all.

Judgement is one of those games you're not suppose to like but you like it anyway. Kinda like one of the many Street Fighter 2 clones of the 90's outside of Mortal Kombat and King of Fighters.

Yeah I just got it so I've been playing it a lot. So far I think Carmilla might be my character but I really want to use Trevor. Simon kinda sucks which bummede out. :( But I haven't used everyone yet so I'm still figuring it out.

Indeed. This is one of my only gripes with the game despite the fact that I've never played it. Grant looks like a mummy or someone who's suffered an industrial accident. Simon and Trevor are nearly identical rather then sporting their own identities, as well as looking like a couple of leather-tight man-whores looking for a pimp. A Grant, Sypha and Trevor love triangle..?? I don't think so. And then there's the issue with Maria oogling that other woman's bust size despite the fact that back in the day women didn't care about such things unlike nowadays. Shanoa's design was actually pretty interesting. Carmilla was another as well. Alucard...not so much. I figure that the SotN nobleman's look suits him better then that of a knight, and his hair was a little too straight as though he was Asian rather then Romanian. And what the hell is up with Aeon's lip stick. That's the first thing I notice whenever I see an image of him. I did give the soundtrack a listen to, but I didn't find anything much there that grabbed my attention.

Don't remind me. Yuck!!! The character designs should have been more faithful the the games. For example, Trevor as he appeared in CoD, Alucard as he appeared in SotN, etc. On the other hand, Corrnel's appearance was good. His appearance in Judgment is the only design I don't have a problem with.

I would rather just play soul calibur with my custom made CV characters any time. They look more true to Castlevania than the character designs in judgement anyways.

When the game was popular, tiers were determined.
There's a thread for CVJudgment ID's/FC's posted but I don't know how many play.
The online is pretty smooth, at least for me. It's not laggy like Brawl was at times...
I 'think' this was our old Tier List:

Once the game matured, it was determined that there really aren't tiers much because no one can agree on any one character being any better/worse than another. At first, Sypha was down, then she was up. Then Shanoa went to top tier, then Aeon because he can combo into an unblockable. Then Golem moved up, then Dracula. At one point Trevor and Simon were the shittiest, then people learned that they have better Air game than other characters.
Sooooo it's STILL undecided, even after all these years, haha.

Eh, I really don't have a problem with these designs:
-Sypha (Mmm... she's all sorts of nice)
-Carmilla (mmm... she's all sorts of naughty)
-Golem (looks like a boss)
-Cornell (just badass awesome)
These are ok:
-Aeon (it will do)
-Alucard (it's not SotN, but it's not a dealbreaker much)
-Shanoa (she doesn't have the look of OoE, but I like the 'fighting nun' look. I do miss the long hair though)
-Trevor (although I don't dig how full of belts he is, I like the short hair, eyepatch, and fur outfit).
These are... passable:
-Simon Belmont (anachronistic, and needed more plate armor and less leather)
-Eric Lecarde (he looks really plain. Most people just had beef with him being a kid, rather than the adult Bloodlines version. Also he's kind of a dick. But again, his only design flaw is that it's quite plain)
The eyesore atrocious ones really are:
-Grant (WTF Voldo?)
-Dracula (steampipe nipples in the cape)
-Maria (Punkrock Goth chick with a birdcage staff? Call PETA, that owl must have a million concussions)
-Death (really not digging the Shinigami look or the hook-hand, or the fact that his 'face' is a mask; Time Reaper was more Death-like... and even he brings it up "Even your visage mocks me, die!")

I like Trevor Beltmont. The eyepatch was a nice touch, and his design works, unlike Simon's, who is just Light Yagami.

Trevor's theme is also one of the best renditions of Beginning ever.

You are not alone. We here in Venezuela managed to held 8 tourneys (1 monthhly) for the game and gathered like 10 players in each. We got pretty hardcore into the game (read: hardcore =/= good haha) and loved everything from it.

A few stuff here and there and the game would be pretty balanced. I used low tier Simon and managed some good results after a lot of hard work!

I actually had a lot of fun playing Judgment with my friends! I used to bring a bunch of games/game systems to my friends' houses because I was the person who had all the multiplayer games. We had WAY to much fun with that game...more than we should have. I'm pretty sure us making commentary and dressing up the characters also helped us enjoy the game more. I also really enjoy the music in Judgment. I still have numerous tracks from it on my playlist.
Nowadays one of my friends has the multiplayer games we play, and I don't really buy multiplayer games anymore aside from fighting games.

I always thought Judgment was a blast too. Like most have said the character designs were... different and for me personally I wish I could skip the special moves. They're cool the first few times but then it's a little too much.

At the time I wasn't very keen of a fighter. I was just waiting for the next MetroidVania to come out.
Right now, I'd be 100% invested in a Judgment 2. I'd be thrilled if they announce it (provided they keep it japanese in look and CV-ish in music).
The soundtrack was totally awesome.
And my favourite characters were, of course, Shanoa and Maria :)

Man, I expected nothing from this game yet I had a ton of fun with it. I played it obsessively last fall. Too bad it got the reviews it did; the game wasn't anything particularly special but beyond the character designs it wasn't god awful either.

And why is that?
It must be because I said that at this point I would be more invested in Judgment 2 than in "some other" kind of game (meaning that Judgment 2 (heck, even Harmony of Despair 2) would be better than another reboot type or epic grand game for me).
I know it could get annoying for some people, but it is way more difficult to be in my place. Since Order of Eclessia I'm waiting for the new Castlevania. And, in a weird way, Judgment and Harmony of Despair kind of filled that empty space all this time that I'm enduring, waiting for the MS trilogy to end.
I wish it would already be 2014 so we know what the future of Castlevania is.
In the meantime, it's unavoidable for me to say things like that, from time to time (respectfully, of course).

You can see it in HD. Wii games (also PS2 games) look awesome when emulated on a PC.

Never played this online but I would enjoy the first chance I get. Haven't rocked my faves (Death and Maria) for a short long time. It might be the fact that I'm on Harmony of Despair a lot more than I should be. How do u find your friend code on the wii?

I have Dolphin, but I also own it on my Wii and can play 2-player 'cuz my Wii uses it as ISO and my Wii-U uses the disc. ;)
I am not savvy on how much has progressed in terms of Dolphin features, so I'm not sure if online play is operational on there.
If it is, I can play using the PC version as well. Bwahahaa.

After reading this topic, i decided to give it a shot, but instead of seting up my wii, i've tried it on dolphin, i've only tried a little the castle mode and it's not so bad as i thought that it might be, but still movement control, along with some kind of auto targeting?, can't say for sure, is a little clunky.

Ya see I could simply hook up my Wii & play this game since everyone is talking about it again, but if I do that, I'll automatically see the Adventure ReBirth icon, thus the possibility of me putting the Judgment disc in the Wii significantly decreases.

I'm still dwelling with Pekio, Diplo, and Nightmare on the fringes of the internet. Pekio still comes to post once every six months or so. Personally speaking, I live on the east coast now and work in D.C. for big gubmint.

Yep, I've got Rebirth working great on my laptop, so give it a whirl. Dolphin may have improved a good bit since you guys last tried to do it.

You have to beat the game twice with every character to get to the final boss and true ending.

Like story mode twice, arcade mode twice, story mode AND arcade mode? I'm definitely going to do it whatever it is but....I also wish The Arcade was available for Wii so I could play that one too!

Yeah you gotta beat it with every character to unlock "True Story Mode", as each character's first ending is a 'key' that Aeon uses to meld the timelines back.
However, to truly mend the timelines the strongest character needs to defeat the final boss.
This means that to see the true endings and what happened to every character, you have to beat the game with each of them. This includes Aeon, who is unlocked after the first endings are done for the other characters, from what I recall.
I haven't unlocked everything in Castle Mode but you don't really get anything with that mode aside from the unlockable trinkets, I believe.

One of IGA's staff was a former assistant for Takeshi Obata of Death Note. So the entire team decided to ask this staff person to go and ask Takeshi if he can do illustrations for Judgment. We all know what happened next.

Bleh. To me it's more the characters that don't even look like themselves that I have a problem with like Grant and Eric. Simon's design sucks too, but those two were the ones I had the most problem with.

Yeah I especially liked Shanoa and Aeon's designs! Most of the rest were meh though.

This might be of interest to me as well.
We need to nail down a few things:
- What date and time to do it
- What communication software (ie Skype, Google Hangout, etc), preferably a voice chat
- Rough duration of time this getogether will last

It wouldn't really be possible to get them all. It is not like anyone but the two players fighting can see them at the time of the match. I don't recall the game having a replay save system, did it?

You'd need a capture device hooked up to the tv/wii somehow (in a way that doesn't cause a delay - like some kind of double feed where one output goes to the TV for gameplay, and another goes to a capture device), unless it's being played through Dolphin Only in which case it can be livestreamed or something.

I saw some gameplay footage of Dolphin supposedly doing the online thing.
Not sure if the Dolphin online is the same as the regular Wii online, or if it was done in some other fashion.

Looks like standard emulator netplay functionality, where it pretends you're both playing locally. IE not using Nintendo's netplay servers. Insane as it may sound, it could actually be better than Nintendo's system provided you don't desync.
Can dolphin use the actual game disk and memory data from my Wii SD card?

It can use the disc, IFF your disc drive is compatible.
Most aren't, though. But you may get lucky.

Here is a tutorial on how to take your game disk, make a file of it, and use it with the emulator. This should get us partially there at least. Whoever is interested should try this out and make sure they can get it working ahead of time. Then we can figure out how the netplay works and test it.

I wonder if someone would record some fights for those of us who can't join in the fun.
This is something that they covered in SSFIV:AE-they have a replay system & a "spectator Mode" in the Endless Battle setting. Anyone who's on the roster for the fight can watch the two going at it at that moment. I've seen some great brawls between Neo & Son this way.
This doesn't have a whole lot to do with CV Judgment, I just really like Street Fighter & it was a neat addition I thought.

I can't play online because my Wii uses downloaded ISO's.

Playing through Dolphin is out of the question for me. My good computer is kinda broken until I can get the money to fix it, and I do not have a bluetooth adapter or a wireless sensor bar. I mean, I COULD try buying a bluetooth adapter since I don't really need the sensor bar (I can use the classic controller to get through the Wii menu) and try playing on this old laptop, but it probably wouldn't work well, lol.
I could still probably play on my Wii though, I think. My Wii is hacked, but I could still play Judgment online...right? I actually haven't played anything online on my Wii in ages. If I did play on the Wii I would probably be able to also record my footage with my Elgato HD capture device. :P

You don't need an actual Wii remote, you can use a any game pad or keyboard. But yes, if your PC doesn't have the horse power that could be an issue. At least give it a try.
If not I guess we can do some actual Wii matches as well. That is, provided the game server is still up, haha.

Online matches with the regular Wii still work as far as I know.
The only issue would be that no one could see them unless someone has a capture cart to 'catch' the matches and stream them.
Unfortunately I do not have such a device.

I tested the game out on Dolphin.
It runs beautifully as far as graphics and gameplay.
The sound however has this weird delayed echo effect.

Even though outdated my PC, the game runs perfectly and without sound problems. Maybe it's your sound card or some sound configuration on Dolphin causing the problem?

Mine runs OK up until a certain point, then it gets that repeating voices issue and sometimes scratchy continuous garbage. Happens usually on the Dungeon stage, or after X number of matches. Around 40 matches in, the game will just lock up and need to be reset.

I haven't experience any of these.........i wonder what might be the issue?

Could be the sound config. I read something somewhere about that cuz sometimes the sound distorts and gets delayed on mine and my computer is solid

Who said that great lie to you? You can play online even if your Wii uses a modchip, is modded in any way, play games from a HDD or whatever, its not Xbox lol
My wii is modded and I can play any game online without problems, also a friend of mine have a softmodded wii and plays online as well.
You dont need to update or anything, you only need to connect it to internet, enter in your game and thats it :P

It's systems that have a central network (PSN, XBLA) that you have a possibility of getting banned and losing your account.
Since there's no such thing as that for Wii, as long as you got a friendcode and a buddy, you can play online.
Some games even let you play online without that (Tatsunoko VS Capcom, Monster Hunter Tri' *I think*).
The only problem with online Wii ISO gaming is that if your ISO is modified in any way, you will get a disconnect because the two opposite data may not match, which would cause a problem (that's why when people play with Brawl+, Brawl-, or ProjectM, all members of the battle must have the exact same mod and version of mod, otherwise you'll desync and get a disconnect).

I'll look into it this weekend, I always wanted to try Mario Kart online, amongst others (like Judgment) :)
