Title: October is around the corner...
Post by: crisis on September 22, 2014, 01:47:46 PM
and with that comes Halloween & all the creepy stuff in our society. so which castlevania game(s) will you be replaying during this season? anybody planning on doing a cv marathon on halloween which lands on a Friday? or perhaps dressing up as a character

i feel another annual run thru of Super castlevania IV & Symphony is appropriate. those games are truly timeless & capture the atmosphere of All Hallows Eve perfectly, prunyuu~

At Yale, halloween is quite a scene...there are big parties and costume bashes everywhere. It's mainly an undergraduate thing, though...me, I'll be spending October like I do every other month: Sitting in my dorm room surfing the CVD 8)

CV2 (an annual October tradition) and Belmont's Revenge. I've never played BR before.

Gonna be hitting up Lament of Innocence again since it has the creepiest atmosphere. Though some of the shit in Mirror of Fate, like the guy who found out he was eating some other dude's leg, that really sends shivers.

Right now I'm playing through Legacy of Darkness for the first time. Bought it and CV64 on ebay.

Most of the summer I've been playing the games. Usually multiple times. 1-4, Rondo, Dracula X. I've wanted to play Chronicles and Symphony, but unable to for the moment. Hopefully that will change soon.

I'm sure I'll play some CV games but I won't be dressing up as anything CV related. I'm trying to get two of my friends to dress up as the trailer park boys with me

Who knows... I might surf the dungeon for a time before hitting up the classic CV games. Both CV II and LoD sound like the traditional Halloween CV treats.  :)

I would probably surf the Dungeon.

I'm thinking Luigi's Mansion 2 all the way, cause it's sitting on my shelf waiting for the right moment... but I think I could run through Dracula's Curse too, which is the CV I associate the most with Halloween. It's like how I ALWAYS think of christmas when I play a Zelda game. Some franchises just have a special day/holiday attached to them, and it harkens back to my childhood, I guess.

Last year I think I played through 5 Castlevanias during October and not a week ago I beat Castlevania Chronicles (original and arrange mode) so I'm not sure which if any Castlevania(s) I'll play through this year. Though it's possible I may play some horror games, like Silent Hill has more or less just been gathering dust in my collection for about 4 years. Maybe I'll sit down and finally beat the Castlevania clone "Master of Darkness" on the Master System, for the most part that's a pretty easy game I just get bored with it.

Symphony of the Night is my annual play-through.  8) I will get the Crissaegrim this time. Mirror of Fate and Chronicles are on the list too.

The original, IV, Bloodlines, Rebirth, and hopefully Symphony of the Night if I have time.

CV64 looks kinda cool.

CV 64 is really rough around the edges and takes some getting used to, but in terms of a 3D CV game transition it's perhaps the most successful when lined up against Lament of innocence and Curse of Darkness.

I'm starting my second run-through ever of OoE today. I'll probably also do a SOTN luck run, cos I did that last month and it was really fun! Are there any other CV games with luck modes like this?

Thief mode in Circle of the Moon?  But you have to go through Normal, Magician, Fighter, and Shooter modes first or get someone's save data with it enabled.  So far I've just cleared Normal and Magician, and started Fighter.

I plan to finish up my chronological viewing of CV longplays (which I started last October with LoI) before October. I've finish all of the actual story games (ending with DoS) and am currently going through the True Story Modes of various characters in Judgment, and I'll end with Aeon. That should be it (unless I want to watch Harmony of Despair, but I believe those have no storylines; someone please let me know).

The big question is which series to do a chronological viewing of next. I'm considering Mario, Mega Man, and Zelda, and each are huge franchises.

Since starting sometime in the spring and I will soon finish playing through all 2D Cv's except for MSX Vampire Killer, arcade Haunted Castle, that phone Order of Shadows, and haven't replayed with all the alternate characters in games.  I just gotta finish my replay of Order of Ecclesia.  I did heavily abuse use of save states in SNES Drac X and GB Cv Adventure and used them for a few other games.  But I beat most games on actual systems.

Probably Aria, since I went back and replayed the other 2 GBA games a while back. Maybe Bloodlines, too, since that one is always fun. I could always have a go at Kid Dracula (only played it to make sure it worked).

Beyond that, I'll probably round the rest of the month out with horror games. Like maybe Amnesia, Personal Nightmare...some stuff that's just sitting on my Steam/GOG accounts that I haven't gotten to yet.

Finished my replay of Ecclesia.  Maybe I'll finish reading the Historian by Elizabeth Kostova in the next couple weeks.  At just about the midpoint now.

Have you read Stoker's Manuscript, written by Royce Prouty? I didn't enjoy it as much as The Historian but I still do recommend it. It's written in the same vein with a somewhat similar plot.

I've started a bunch of runs in various CV games but haven't finished them, so maybe that'll be what I do this month in between playing BlazBlue CP and Catherine with my gf. I'm in the middle of a Richter run in SoTN (and actually I think I had a Maria run I didn't finish so I should get to that) as well as being in the Castle Center in CV64. LOVE that game, I still think those are the best 3D CV games even if they have their rough spots.

I was playing Splatterhouse a bunch last year too.

I popped "Symphony of the Night" into my Playstation and started a new game, a Luck Mode run. This time I decided to see if I could cheat death and I did, for the first time! It wasn't that hard, I just jumped over the third Warg in the room before, unequipped everything, and jumped into his face. It's so nice to play with the Alucard equipment right from the top! It does kind of kill the already forgiving difficulty, but it makes it easier to explore.

IMO Luck Mode is the best way to play SoTN, especially if you sandbag against Drac in the beginning and don't get the good stats. Keeps the game challenging for a bit longer and it's kind of nice not to be able to tank with Alucard, especially against some of the early bosses.

Well, eh, I saw Dracula Untold with my dad last friday (my wife didn´t like such movies), so that´s the way I start my October :).

I haven´t play too much Castlevania lately. The last week I played and ended Megaman 5, 4 and 6, in that order. I failed in Megaman 3, but maybe is the fact that I want to play something different at the time. The past weekend I played the LoS 2 demo. I really want to buy the game, but I expect that the price is lower soon (I waited for Arkham Origins and I buyed it for $19.99 with Season Pass included ;D).

In the October scenario, I played this week Lollipop Chainsaw 8). I just ended this morning, and I liked a lot (specially the music).

For Castlevania in the next days, I planed to play the Dracula´s Battle from Curse of Darkness, and then start a new game, only to see the story and play and hear Abandonned Castle :D.

Maybe I see Braham Stoker´s Dracula movie again...

I think I'll stick with just having a birthday and a baby ;-P  Maybe some Gauntlet if I can fit it in.

I have read a bunch of Lafcadio Hearn's Japanese ghost stories.
They are free on gutenberg or on ibooks

Finished my replay of Ecclesia.  Maybe I'll finish reading the Historian by Elizabeth Kostova in the next couple weeks.  At just about the midpoint now.

I'm currently on a re-read of The Historian myself.  It's a wonderful book.

I might have to check this one out as well.

I wish that I could finish Vlad: The Last Confession, I've recently tried to go back to it, but am just finding it a bit slow.  Next week, Anne Rice's return to The Vampire Chronicles, Prince Lestat, is out, so I'll pick up a copy of that.  I'm also re-playing LoS2, and am up to Carmilla's actual boss fight.  I really fancy revisiiting Aria at some point, if I have the time.

That's a good idea!  I think I'm gonna do that now!  I don't know what anyone else thought of him, but I LOVED Pumpkin!  Even the constant squeaking as he walked...it was hilarious!

I've started getting into streaming stuff. Maybe I should consider a Halloween stream of some Castlevanias? Does that sound like it would interest anyone?

Just to be clear I'm not particularly great in general at Castlevania games (at least the old tough ones). Don't expect power play. But I could at least talk to you guys while doing so.

VK - Don't have, neve got it working.
HoD - It's pretty good. A possible candidate.
CVC - Only if you don't hate me for playing arranged mode.

I think I'll make a separate thread for this.
