Sonic Unleashed: Is there hope for the fastest thing alive?

Today, images of a new Sonic game were released on Sega's Press FTP server.  It is assumed that these images are from Sega's upcoming "Sonic: Unleashed".  This game, from the gameplay screens, appears to be for the Wii, and also appears to be taking Sonic's extreme-ness down a bit; he is smaller than his last few outings, and his bent-arrow smile from his Genesis days appears in one of the gameplay screens.  Sonic's infamous sidekicks also seem absent from the screens, though they may be later revealed.  Could Sega be trying to take steps back, and fix what has become broken in the Hedgehog's franchise?
Expect a Press Release on this game very, very shortly.

Sonic is.... pretty dead...... these 3d games are just failures in terms of gameplay imo. I like sonic, but iunno...

I think the game may be real, since they put him in ssbb, and thats probably to hype him up for the new game. but still... meh....

Wow... Sonic's face expression at 37 seconds is pretty priceless.

I kinda hope Slayer is right. Sonic was way better before Sega started catering to the creepy fans (Sonic '06 and Shadow the Hedgehog, I'm looking at you).

After seeing Smash Bros. Brawl, though, nothing would make me happier than a new Sonic game made by Hal Labs (or whatever the Kirby team is called).

The only good 3D sonic game was the one for Dreamcast, it was fast-paced and awesome. That is, if any of you guys even played that one. :P

I never followed the series after the first one for the Dcast. Though I just researched it a bit and they put the first 1 and 2 or something on the cube in a double pack of some sort, I should seriously pick that up if I can find it at EB.

I liked Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 but all the other 3D games bombed. I'm hoping that maybe Sega realized what they did to Sonic and make things better. I'll wait to see some actual video footage before I make my opinion.

At least the graphics do look nice.
What a horrible night to have a curse!

Sonic Heroes was ridiculously bad, story and gameplay wise and whatnot: a major disappointment after the Adventure games (though SA2 is not one of the best I've played).

And that is some beautiful footage of fast-paced Sonic fun.

It might be extremely epic!

Hmm...it does look like 2.5d with some Sonic 2 bonus level like segments. check out when sonic is blasting through the enemies...there are more enemies on the sides so maybe he can move side to side in that view.

However, it may look pretty and all...but im just afraid it might be the "hold right" fest that the sonic advanced games where. why cant they just go back and look at sonic 1 and 2. Maybe they will remember that sonic was a freakin platformer.

I have the same fears somewhat.  I hope more footage will reflect the opposite, though...

Looks cool, but I'm still waiting for Sega to announce Big the Cat's Tax-Filing mini game that's actually half the game.

They WILL screw this up somehow, I'm sure of it.
