Title: Encouragement Tips and Inspiration Thread
Post by: Shiroi Koumori on March 18, 2013, 02:52:47 AM
Here is a thread to post all things in order to
Brighten someone's day with words of encouragement
A little note can make a big difference
You can also post inspirational literature
And share good things to all
Cheers!

Thanks for the idea Laina.

It's not inspirational, but it's something I saw on facebook today.

On the right it says: "Jerusalem prepares for Obama's presidential visit"
The left side is a commercial: "Genuine Chicken soup 13.99 9.99"  ;D

Why would someone feel better after seeing Obama selling chicken soup in Jerusalem? lol

That C. Joybell C. phrase is really useful.

"I am prosperous!"
~ Me

I say this every time I make money or receive money. I keep the good vibes in my mind longer so the universe xeroxes more of those vibes for me. Take today for instance. I'm a little low and cash, and outta the blue I get a 125$ check in the mail from the ratings board I participate in. I was only expecting 30$.

That C. Joybell C. phrase is really useful.

Liking chicken (especially fried chicken) is an old negative stereotype against black people. A lot of people in the Israel government (and their supporters I suppose) have been mad that Obama got reelected because he's not been as much of a lapdog for Israel as some other US Presidents have been and Mitt Romney was promising to be. Obama has "only" continued to give Israel Billions of dollars a year, but not agreed to blindly support all of the countries policies.

But as for the topic of the thread, here's a good place to look for inspirational quotes :)

It's a little odd I suppose, but I really love Daft Punk & this song's lyrics always made me feel hopeful for the future when it came to finding a soulmate, or life in general really. "Why don't you play the game?" made me think of the dating scene first (which to me entails the search, monogamous courtship & learning to coexist with another being), then life-you have to get out there & experience them in order to enjoy them.

Digital Love

by Daft Punk

Last night I had a dream about you
In this dream I'm dancing right beside you
And it looked like everyone was having fun
the kind of feeling I've waited so long

Don't stop come a little closer
As we jam the rythm gets stronger
There's nothing wrong with just a little little fun
We were dancing all night long

The time is right to put my arms around you
You're feeling right
You wrap your arms around too
But suddenly I feel the shining sun
Before I knew it this dream was all gone

Ooh I don't know what to do
About this dream and you
I wish this dream comes true

Ooh I don't know what to do
About this dream and you
We'll make this dream come true

Why don't you play the game ?
Why don't you play the game ?

This is in my signature at Game Maker Community:

Quote
Do not think about where you want to be and how to get there; think about what you want to do and how to do it.

Unfortunately, most people at GMC either never read the sig or have no idea what it means. It kinda makes me out to be a bit of an asshole on those forums, although compared to some members like GameGeisha I do exhibit a bit more patience toward some wannabe programmers. I mean, sure the saying is a bit cryptic (and it's original, too -- copyright of TheouAegis), but it has its place in programming as well as life in general.

How the saying pertains to programming is a lot of wannabe programmers at GMC ask questions like, "Can GameMaker be used to make trading card games?", "How do I make moving platforms?", or, "Why can't my player move?". These are examples of where you want to be and how to get there. If they would just stop and think about what kind of steps need to be taken to reach their goal, they'd be able to read the Help File and figure things out on their own. What do you need to happen with a moving platform? Who is controlling the player when the player is on a moving platform? What components of a trading card game do you want in your game and what functions in GM sound like they might work for those components? And the one all too often newbie programmers fail to comprehend: When you're checking for collisions, which collisions do you actually care about at the time of the check? These are all examples of what you want to do and how to do it.

But yeah, the saying can be used to apply to everyday life too. Like, don't stress over being rich, worry about doing what makes you happy now. Or don't worry about getting married, first find a girl that makes you happy. Or don't worry about having kids and raising a family, first find a woman who you'll still love and want to be with even when she's fat and cranky -- finding one that's already fat and cranky can hasten the application process.

Specially when Tom mentions the quote we're talking about, and the part when the emperor says to Omura: "If your shame is so unbearable..." *offers Nakamura's Sword* "...then i offer you this sword."
Man, it was so strong.. There's such a strong message in this movie.. When i first watched it, i was a bit too excited with the samurai, so i don't think i could've noticed it well. But now that i look at this scene... Man, it's damn awesome! :D

Constantly. Though the SH2 OST is mostly about Yamaoka's ingenious ability to keep making me feel uneasy no matter how many times I listen to his work, he is completely capable of delivering soothing stuff too. These two are my recurring favorites from the soundtrack:

Lely - "Now I lay me down to sleep" is the start of an extremely creepy prayer children used to be depicted making right before they went to bed. Geez, when i felt like this i used to listen to the Justice album..
But then, there was a time i calmed down a bit, and started experiencing Metallica a bit more.. And it worked! ^^
I had a time when i only listened to the songs from their sixth/seventh albums, Load and Reload, respectively..
Their songs in these albums may tend to go more into hard rock, although in Reload they come back with their thrashy style..
Anyways, Load's songs were pretty calm and very good to hear, i recommend you them. :)

Generally, all Metallica works are great pieces of music.
I'm very open minded when it comes to music, I have at least some themes I like from every genre, and any band or singer can make a personal hit with me, provided I happen to like it.

Yes, I knew that tune!

And yes, Morricone is great, he imprints his music with a nostalgic, melancholic, sad but yet sweet feeling, that no other composer did so far, at least with me.

I used to think that movies soundtracks weren't a lost art, during the good years of Hans Zimmer and his crew, but today everything they do is pretty much glorified noise. Nevertheless, from time to time there comes a movie with a soundtrack I love, either from them (like Solomon Kane by Klaus Badelt) or other composers (I remember back in 2008, when everyone was talking about "how great" was Dark Knight's Hans Zimmer soundtrack, and, though I really like the first one, I hated the second OST, and that same year, The Other Boleyn Girl featured a memorable soundtrack by Paul Cantelon, and no one paid attention to that one).

I used to listen to this song at night, on the radio station, so many times.. This song even inspired me into creating a character of mine, actually.. So it became very special to me since that point on. His name's Dustin. But I use to call him 'Lone Wolf' in another version of his that i've been thinking much of these days.. :)
And the Morricone's song is awesome, btw. ^^

Nice origin story for a character!

lol Thank you so much! :)
I've always kept him in mind, btw. Never drew him in paper, nor any computer image editor, nor nothing.. Always kept that in mind. Also created many versions of his. About his story, i still don't know about his origin...
I wanted something mysterious, and at the same time, a bit more dramatic. I mean, he was a child at the start, and he's got a family, but he lost it, or something like that. But i still don't know how to make it, though..
All i know for now is, he lives completely alone and, got some difficulty to deal with villagers, no wonder... They look at him as a murderer, or at least someone totally weird, or just completely different...
This version above is his ninja one, which i used to call "Lone Wolf".
Now you can guess where i took this username from. ;)
I also created a Dracula version of his. And a samurai one. Well, so many ones..
But always kept them in mind.. I dunno to draw. I wanted to draw him as an anime, i even tried it some rare times but, it's awful, and i just can't... :-\
Still got ideas for him. About the song, it made me think of a scene, many times... The same scene, where the character floats on the space, slowly, drowning into a black hole....
It's even curious that the song is called 'In The Dark'.. And just the way it makes me feel doesn't fit on the scene...
It makes me feel comfort, actually... Which is weird when you come at the scene, unless.. Hmmm.... I'd better think more about it..

Yeah, totally!  :)
I like to hear things as diverse as Castlevania, Ennio Morricone, Sonata Arctica, Pet Shop Boys, Europe or Frank Sinatra.
I think every genre of music has something for me when it's well done.
And if you say u enjoy spaghetti westerns as well!! :o Morricone has some Very memorable tunes... Great to know people have an ear for great music!

here is a bit of inspiration for all intersted; One key to moving ahead is to learn what must be left behind- Unknown

This is something i saw in the first conversation between Ben and Otis, in the Barnyard movie. One who already watched this movie may know well what i'm talking about:

"The strong man may defend himself alone; the stronger one may also defend the others..."

OUT of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
  For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

I think this falls under encouragement.

Quote from: Capt. Sakomizu ("Ultraman Moebius")
Meeting, parting, joy and sadness -- these are troubling emotions for humans. But you know, as time passes they turn into this thing called 'memories'. There might be nothing to those memories, but they might be the saddest thing to humans.

I'm referring to how like 99% of my favorites are scantily clad female cosplayers.

With the other 1% being devoted to random illustrations based on my corruption fiction (with more coming in, btw).

I am using a little bit of restraint, though.  Like the other day I almost made this picture (http://browse.deviantart.com/art/Dead-or-Alive-Kasumi-cosplay-8-273769601) my one Kasumi-related Favorite, but then I noticed the cosplayer's profile says she's 16 and whoooooooa that was pretty close.  And I'm thinking about throwing on this Walter White Season 1 cosplay (http://browse.deviantart.com/art/My-Halloween-Costume-Walter-White-335359952) just as an automatic counter.

That Rocky scene is my favourite part of the movie! It always make my eyes teary.
I just love all the Rocky saga because of little details and phrases like this speech. It gets to my heart every time.

PS: that DoA cosplay was awesome.

I must say this first: I don't understand a single word here! But the music is so epic and beautiful! Actors put so much emotions into the words (at least one of them :))! The espers from FF6 are so big and awesome! ... That video inspires me a lot.
