As a classicist I love the kind of obscure mythological beasties included in various metroidvanias--like Catoblepas, Amphisbaena, Amduscias and all the Ars Goetia dudes--though I'd like to see their sprites updated occasionally, Cato has the potential to be really bizarre and Glasya Labolas could have been cooler. I'd also like to see Blackmore again, he intrigued me, and the Frozen Half. And Carmilla and Laura always have a place in my heart.
Along these lines, what enemies did you like, who do you want to see get a facelift, and what mythological critters should be added?
My ideas-
Crocutta--magic using were-hyena.
Emim/Rephaim--biblical giants, though perhaps just other tribes in reality. emim apparently meant 'dreadful'. Undead golem types? Emim the stronger palette swap? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rephaim (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rephaim)
Chrysaor--Other thing created by Medusa's death besides Pegasus. I'd like to see it as a massive winged boar rather than the more boring dude-shape.
these have probs all been in SMT/Persona, but you know what, so has /everything/ so what can you do.
-
I loved all the skeleton variations. My favorites were the Mirror skeleton, Simon wraith, and ninja skeletons. Those guys really put up a fight. And who could forget the historically unfitting motorcycle skeletons from CV64?
-
Captain Konami!!
Of course after you beat him h'ed explain that he was just testing you to assure himself that you will be able to defeat Dracula.
-
hahaha YES. That'd be an excellent hidden boss. I could see it.
I'd also like to see a really good boat stage, like in RoB or CVIII, we haven't had one of those in awhile. Ghost ship stages, pirate enemies, sahuagin/fishmen everywhere. Kill an albatross, gain a 'DOOM' status. Ok, maybe not.
-
What About Olrox ? 1 Apparition only ,in SoTn , This boss always fascined me , don't know why... :P
-
yeah, me too. Is he Dracula's bff, do they paint nails and talk about their fave/least fave Belmonts? is he a prisoner of sorts, too powerful to be allowed to live elsewhere? Some kind of indentured servitude situation? /Olrox reveal your secrets/ >:(
I think he's some kind of vampire atavism--instead of being all suave and having a buff monster form, he's kinda grody and has this lizard/rat thing going on, some kind of throwback, yet obviously cultured. Way older than Drac, but for some reason not in charge...Interesting mix of attributes.

How about the first stage in Legacy of Darkness, "Foggy Lake"? Opens with the ferryman rowing you towards the anchor of a giant abandoned ship, then you climb up the ship, actual game begins, fight some fishmen, run around on deck of ship fighting ghosts and collecting red jewels, morning stars and subweapons, rotate the masts with lever, climb the masts, fight more ghosts, optionally run across the invisible platform to the mast on the other side of the ship to collect goodies, run back, grab DECK KEY, kill more fishmen, enter inside of boat, fight some skeletons and more fishmen, get attacked by giant sea monster, escape ship as it's sinking, jump across cargo floating in lake to rocky pier, fight sea monster, end of stage. It's a great stage.
-
Ahhhh, I forgot that one! It's been ages since I played either of the 64s. I do remember enjoying that, though.
I had a dream (dreaming unreal stages is a frequent occurrence) that was an in-motion ship stage for a 2D CV game. Kind of like the underworld-y boat iiiiin...was it Majora's Mask or OoT? OoT's shadow temple I believe. But In a bright-but-eerie Simon's Quest sort of palette, focused on a lot of dark and light greys and greens...it was a cool dream. I immediately wanted to make that a real stage, but I lack the know-how.

WHAT IS A BLOG
Are...are they canadian...Amazing.

I'd like to see Cthulhu (not the devil-looking thing but the Cthulhu-looking thing) elevated to boss status. When you think about it those Cthulhu creatures are really the miniature spawns of Cthulhu itself so I think it would be an awesome opportunity. The last thing anyone would want including both the Belmonts and Dracula is to have a fully-grown Cthulhu spawn running around and destroying the world. Even Galamoth would be no match for one of the 'Old Ones'.
-
Yeah I'd like to see more Mythos elements in general, of course. An actual threat from Cthulhu or his cultists, even just a nod at it. We have Dagon already, heh. Hounds of Tindalos get an obvious recc from me too. Pretty sure those iridescent white blobs that bounce around in CVIV were the Colour out of Space anyway.
-
I thought about a Cthulhu battle in my CV game. But we'll see. Also thought about adding in a Sloggoth level.
-
Hell yeah! A whole Mythos based CV gaiden would rock my balls.
I'd also like to see both werewolves and vampires have more emphasis in the classicvania style. Come to think of it, having a sort of lycan & vampire hunting thing in CV2 similar to metroid hunting in M2 would have been interesting.
-
Lord Ruthven, from Polidori's "The Vampyre" and also a vampire version of the Phantom of the Opera.
WHY HAVE THEY NOT BEEN ADDED YET?
-
Ohhh thanks for the reminder, I'd been meaning to check out Polidori after my Frankenstein kick.
I think the Phantom could be a good boss, heh.
-
Since you already have Death why not the other 3 of the four horseman of the Apocalypse?
-
Since you already have Death why not the other 3 of the four horseman of the Apocalypse?
I suggested this very idea over a year ago. It would be an awesome Gauntlet to conquer. Kinda like the three fiends (Slogra, Gaibon and Death) who showed up in SCV IV.

Nice analogy uzo! I never thought about it in that context. So I guess in a sense you do fight the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse in SCV4.

Maybe it's because I'm on a Stephen King kick lately, but if they ever do another Sorrow game (ie post Demon Castle War) I'd like to see some villain who's a nod to The Stand/Dark Tower antagonist Randall Flagg. He's a truly evil bastard and an ancient sorcerer/demon kinda guy like Dracula. The idea of a Dracula worshiping cult was severely underplayed, and Flagg has that freaky kind of insane, charismatic cult-leader mentality written all over him. They're a CULT, dammit. They should be absolutely psychotic and murderous, but noooo, all DoS had was a half-baked pyromaniac and a shifty Russian with an atrocious sense of fashion.
Other trivia: OoE's Barlowe was likely named for the evil vampire in King's novel Salem's Lot. And the little toothy dudes spawned by Menace in DoS are modeled after the titular time-devouring monsters in another King novel/movie, The Langoliers.
-

Oh wow, that's very interesting. I just saw the movie a few days ago, and it's rather interesting to see the connection there.
-
The Langoliers? Was a Steven King Novel/Movie?? This I did not know. And now that i think about it, those things in DoS DO look like them too. I guess they got bored of eating left-over time and decided that our world was the main course.
-
Yes, Stephen King nods are excellent. I liked the usage of the name Barlowe, heh. And a good charismatic cult-leader would be pretty sweet. A really shape-changey boss like the thing from IT would also be interesting, I think. But we have had a lot of those 'tricky' kind of things, from the doppelganger to Paranoia...conversation with the doppelganger could be chilling if done well.
-
A really shape-changey boss like the thing from IT would also be interesting, I think.
Castlevania did have something like this. More specifically; CV: HoD. The first time you fight Maxim's evil self. He changes shape three times before being defeated. His forms were a Black panther, A sword and a moth.
-
Hell yeah! A whole Mythos based CV gaiden would rock my balls.
I've actually thought of an idea similar to CV that deals with Lovecraftian mythos. My little story was called "Grimsdyke", and it takes place somewhere in British isle, in a rather large castle-like mansion that sits atop a hill, on ancient lands soaked in dark dealings. The owner of the mansion(Dracula-like fellow) is abducting people from the nearby village as to sacrifice in a dark ritual to call forth the Elder Gods and bestow a new age of darkness. Among them is the main hero's betrothed, so gives chase and enters the dark mansion with an sword(family heirloom) and pistol(enchanted) in hand, slicing and blasting his way through various lurking fears and crawling terrors. My idea, it was set in the late 1800s(you know how I feel about that time, and how I've been WANTING a new HD CV game that dealt with that era).
Now, back on topic, for what I'd love to see, considering the CV series has always been a loveletter to horror pop culture, I'd love to see some more recent horror figures appear. Leatherface already appeared in OoE, and we had nods to the Puppet Master movies with the Puppet Master boss. Maybe do a Cenobite-type monster(bondage heavy, with nails and portruding from flesh wounds, though not overtly Pinhead or any other Cenobite in any of the Hellraiser movies). Call it a Hellion or Pain Jockey(though, I prefer Hellion).
And with Ruthven, I've mentioned that there are so many real-accused vampires that could be included in the same vein as Dracula, Elizabeth Bartley(Bathory) and Gile de Rais. Clara Geisslerin, Arnold Paole, Fritz Haarman, Peter Plogojowitz, and John George Haigh. Of course, even Bram Stoker's other vampiric creation, the Countess Dolingen of Gratz.
I also thumbs up the Randall Flagg bit. Even if that name is too obvious, Randall Flagg has many different aliases that could be used.
-
I'd love to see a Silent Hill monster make some sort of cameo, actually. Pyramid Head and the Nurses are too obvious, but maybe something else?
-
Elizabeth Bartley(Bathory) and Gile de Rais. Clara Geisslerin, Arnold Paole, Fritz Haarman, Peter Plogojowitz, and John George Haigh. Of course, even Bram Stoker's other vampiric creation, the Countess Dolingen of Gratz.
You forgot about Count Graf Orlok. While Olrox was based off him, to me it's just not the same. We need the REAL Orlok in CV this time around.
-

I still see Olrox and Orlok as being one in the same. It's, if you will, CV's "bastardization"(not in a negative sense, though). It's similar to Elizabeth Bartley. Elizabeth Bathory, in the CV universe, IS Elizabeth Bartley. Orlok in the CV universe is Olrox. Besides, I wouldn't want Orlok to be separate. It's too little too late to do that(unless the retcon the name "Olrox", which I believe they keep out of tradition, just like how the West hasn't changed Trevor back to Ralph). If that was the case, there'd be three gaunt, bald vampmires in the CV series. It's bad enough that Brauner stole his look(I would've preferred Brauner to look unique), but add the REAL Orlok on top of Orlox and Brauner, triple, lanky chromedome-headed vampires.
-
I just like monsters period.
My favorite is Slogra.
I wish they would change the spelling to Slorgas for some reason. :-\
-
They should add a Giant Fleaman/Hunchback as a boss....
-
Slenderman.
lol
-
If they set a Castlevania in the 1930'3 I would totally insist on Slenderman style wierdos be in it. And some more Lovecraftian monsters too.
I always though a proper remake of CV1 should have added two bosses, The Creature from the Black Lagoon and Wolf-man. Only then would the game's nod to classic horror monsters be truly complete.
Oh and for the sake of the argument I'd reorder the bosses like this:
Stage 0 - Wolf-man (I always thought they should expand the main courtyard into it's own stage.)
Stage 1 - Phantom Bat
Stage 2 - Medusa
Stage 3 - The Mummies
Stage 4 - The Creature (from the Black Lagoon)
Stage 5 - The Monster & Igor
Stage 6 - Death (This would be the Clocktower as it's own expanded stage)
Stage 7 - Dracula (And this would be the Castle Keep from Vampire Killer which is bigger than in CV1)
Wolf-man would have to be rather simple as a first stage boss, and I'd make Phantom Bat harder to compensate.
The Creature, now taking up residence in the Monster's old room, could have water added to the bottom of said room so he can jump in and out of it constantly. That would make him harder to hit and keep the player guessing. He would be harder than the Mummies, but not as insane as The Monster with an immortal Igor.
-
So basically you want a merman (a brazilian one, its from amazon lol) with new attacks and different name.
-
So basically you want a merman (a brazilian one, its from amazon lol) with new attacks and different name.
CV: HoD actually had a Merman Boss located in the Aqueduct of Dragons. And he pretty much does as what Inccubus describes his attacks to be.
-
Hell, that's probably where my idea came from subconsciously.
-
Thats why I said that, I love HoD and remembered that :p
Now if you wanna go beyond that, his death animation can be something like him drowning on water like in the third movie (I never watched this movies, but wikipedia said that lol)
-
There's an idea. Death animations based on the actual movies. Nice!

Punaguchi's redesign for "Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth" was certainly not satisfactory.
Edit:

-
Punaguchi's redesign for "Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth" was certainly not satisfactory.
The cockatrice's graphics were terrible and seemed out of place. Other than that the rest seemed fine to me. However, some of the sound effects were stock garbage. Especially the sound when you kill a worm. Couldn't be any more cartoony and cliche.
-
To me CV:ReBirth seems rushed, with their experience it could be very better, the thing that I dislike in this game is when you dies and there is a blue breakable platform beneath your feet, Christopher disappears in blood but the body still there and the camera follow the invisible body. I like this game and all, but I expected more from this game.
-
Universal Monster Family (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mg_-CCSFzu0#ws)
I want all these from the video that didnt have already been added to CV.
-
Dracula's daughter... I had no idea! I sense another CV villein for a future game :)
-
I want to see a villain so crazy and evil even Dracula couldn't properly control them.
Someone rather like Kefka, who doesn't care about motivation. He just wants to watch the world burn for his own amusement.
You encounter them in the castle dungeon, stewing in their own madness when they finally find a new toy to burn. YOU.
-
@X
I think that we almost received that character in CV, remember CV: Ressurection? They have a female Dracula in this cancelled game.
@LumiRockets
Like a psycho guy with dark powers?
-
A psycho guy with power that almost rivals Dracula.
And actually, instead of finding him in the dungeon, have it so he's in a section of the dungeon that's been converted into a makeshift looney bin by Dracula for the soldiers that "went wrong".
-
Someone with a personality that rivals Graham Jones could be a start, the power completely affected his head. Since Graham died inside Castlevania his spirit may be part of it now like the others monsters.
-
I'd never heard of her either. Learn something new every day.
-
@X

I remember this. But to this day I don't know whether or not, that woman was Dracula's daughter, his new wife or just Dracula wearing a disguise. But since we never got the game, Dracula's daughter could finally make her debut. Although I wonder if she was being considered in place of Elizabeth Bartly in bloodlines prior to making the game. Dracula's niece is one thing, but Dracula's own daughter is another. And I think Alucard would be shocked if he ever learned of it.
-
Or he'd try to bone her, being inexplicably attracted to some strange female vampire, and her likewise to him. An affair would blossom and then -- oh what cruel irony! -- their vile father would let slip the secret that had eluded the ill-fated lovers throughout the game!
Then Alucard would be like, "Fuck it, I'm going to hell anyway."

I love James Rolfe. I've been a fan of him since he was the Angry Nintendo Nerd, with only 3 videos under his belt.
As for my input, I would have suggested having a legitimately tough Belmont opponent (possibly mind-controlled or similar to Soma's circumstances) since Richter always felt like an incredible push-over coupled with the fact that you AREN'T supposed to fight him, making Soleiyu one of the only Belmont opponents you have to duke it out with. But then Julius popped up in AoS and fulfilled that desire.
I still don't want to leave this thread empty-handed, so let me think. If it were up to me, I'd love to see more "team" boss fights, like Stella & Loretta in PoR (which AGAIN you aren't supposed to fight!!) Dracula and Death (again in PoR), the three doppelgangers from SotN, and even as far back as the dual mummies in the original Castlevania. CotM had a dual dragon boss fight too. So they definitely exist, but I just wish they were used more. There's a distinct element of danger in having 2 (or more) different opponents to fight at the same time.
-
We could have a Galamoth and Gergoth duo lol
-
And Gurgoth would be Galamoth's pet dinosaur. This is a fight that I can definitely see messing up the player real good.
-
Hahaha sorry, now that you said dinosaur that I noticed my error, I meant Balore, the giant guy, but I messed with his name because I remembered it wrong xD
But Gergoth could be cool too with your idea.
-
Balore... Now that's even messier. I can just imagine Galamoth being swatted aside because Balore wants a piece of Belmont first ;D After all, look what he did to the poor Phantom Bat in AoS.
-

To this day I STILL get a reaction out of people when I show them that scene.
-
I know! It was one of those WTF moments. I was not expecting it.
-
Yeah it really helped elevate Balore, with it being so hungry to take a shot at you it was willing to kill its own kind.

JUMPING zombies in purple robes!
-
I'd like to see more done with Medusa's giant head form in the 2D games. In my remake of CV1 I'm planning to have here be explained as an ancient type of vampire. She'll have two forms; the classic snake lady form, and the giant head form.
-
The enemies I would like added are from a certain card game that konami produces.
Now it is yu-gi-oh, but the creatures I have in mind go hand in hand with one of the levels in the cv-verse los or not.
Now we all know about the crystal castle right?
Castlevania Belmont's Revenge Stage 01 Crystal Castle (No Damage, Subweapons, Upgrades) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1I_ad8hrl5k#)
Sweet...
Now these monster are called the crystal beast
(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimages4.wikia.nocookie.net%2F__cb20070807012541%2Fyugioh%2Fimages%2F4%2F41%2FCrystalBeasts.jpg&hash=bd4d10f11e1be1fd43625f2c8ecfa7ee)
Now how could the crystal beast fit into the cv verse? Well let's say that the crystal beast when all together can bring out a powerful beast, but in order to do that one must beat all the crystal beast in their area in the crystal castle and when a beast is defeated they turn into a gem like this
(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.wikia.com%2Fyugioh%2Fimages%2F3%2F34%2FCrystalBeastTopazTiger-JP-Anime-GX-NC-Crystal.png&hash=15f18948020199563e87fb9213d93166)
And when all the gems are together in say an altar for the seven beast.
They summon the hidden monster that's just freakishly powerful
(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimages3.wikia.nocookie.net%2F__cb20070906022625%2Fyugioh%2Fimages%2F9%2F98%2FRainbowDragon-TAEV-EN-ScR-1E.jpg&hash=0a9eb4145369f08fc26907e518f73a27)
And then you have to fight this rainbow of a dragon. It would be a great way to reintroduce the crystal castle back
and even give it a little back story to the castle.
-
Sailor Moon season 1 did that rainbow crystal thing long before Yu-Gi-Oh existed.
-
Sailor Moon season 1 did that rainbow crystal thing long before Yu-Gi-Oh existed.
But was it as awesome?
hmmm know that I think about it girls in short skirts vs a deck that is pure awesome(I use this deck ;D )..... ahh to heck with it their both awesome :D
Oh and hot chicks with blue hair never hurt ;D
-
Sailor Moon did it diferently, also they will reboot it in a new anime next year (Im happy nippah~).
Also about medusa being a vampire, if thats true she is stupid, how she will drain blood of someone turned into stone? Or becoming stone is the effect of her draining people soul?
-
Not all vampires feed on blood. Besides, I'm using more as a way to explain why she has multiple forms since having multiple forms seems to be normal for powerful vampires in the old canon.
-
Cool, one thing that I would like to see in any game is a Medusa's room with some petrified people and maybe even a duo with Cyclops
-
Cool, one thing that I would like to see in any game is a Medusa's room with some petrified people
They did this in PoR. They also had statues in Medusa's chamber in LoI though you only see them in the cut scene and not when you're battling her.
-
I dont remember seeing that in PoR, I need to check it again sometime, in Loi the only boss that I have seen is Medus but I cant remember that too, thanks for pointing that. xD

There are WW2 soldiers (I think) at the bottom of the screen. Medusa smashes them before the beginning of the battle.

Erlkonig.
That's the one character I really want to see as an enemy.

Erlkoenig, for any who don't know who that is:

Who rides by the night in the wind so wild?
It is the father, with his child.
The boy is safe in his father’s arm.
He holds him tight, he keeps him warm.
My son, what is it, why cover your face?
Father, you see him, there in that place,
The elfin king with his cloak and crown?
It is only the mist rising up, my son.
“Dear little child, will you come with me?
Beautiful games I’ll play with thee;
Bright are the flowers we’ll find on the shore,
My mother has golden robes fullscore.”
Father, O father, and did you not hear
What the elfin king breathed into my ear?
Lie quiet, my child, now never you mind:
Dry leaves it was that click in the wind.
“Come along now, you’re a fine little lad,
My daughters will serve you, see you are glad;
My daughters dance all night in a ring,
They’ll cradle and dance you and lullaby sing.”
Father, now look, in the gloom, do you see
The elfin daughters beckon to me?
My son, my son, I see it and say:
Those old willows, they look so grey.
“I love you, beguiled by your beauty I am,
If you are unwilling I’ll force you to come!”
Father, his fingers grip me, O
The elfin king has hurt me so!
Now struck with horror the father rides fast,
His gasping child in his arm to the last,
Home through the thick and thin he sped:
Locked in his arm, the child was dead.
-
This is interesting, the character and the poem.
-
I'd like to see The Creature and the Behemoth as a boss again. I'd also like to see monster match-ups like in SotN as well.
