And the scariest part?

THIS YEAR STILL HAS 4 MORE DAYS TO FUCK WITH US.
How not to be a dark lord: the answer to that is a terribly interesting answer that involves an almost Jedi-like adherence to keeping oneself under control and finding ways to be true to yourself in a way that doesn't encourage the worst parts of you to become dangerously exaggerated and instead feeds your better nature. Also, protip: don't fuck with Alchemy or strike up any deals with ancient Japanese Shinigami gods no matter how tempting the deal or how suavely dressed the Shinigami is.

https://www.theguardian.com/books/2016/dec/27/watership-down-author-richard-adams-dies-aged-96 here, have another.

To be fair, generally when one is 96 years old, you don't have much further to go. But yeah, it does really suck.

Debbie Reynolds, mother of Carrie Fisher, dead at 84 of a stroke. Perhaps stress from heartbreak played a role.

Death seems to be contagious, like many other social phenomena. When many people you know and like kick the bucket, it doesn't have a good influence on your health.

But hey, stop thinking about people who go away, think about whoever is still here.

Bad shit happens every year, it's just selective to whom it happens to. I don't believe that dead celebrities who one doesn't know can be considered a bad year, think of what it means to the families of those involved and how much of a worse year they're having.

Yeah. Another thing that makes this year so bad, though, is the amount of bloodshed it's seen. Terror attacks, the strife in Aleppo, unease in international politics...when it's on the news all the time it's all very unnerving. While things aren't as bad as they were during WWII, I'm kinda worried we may be heading for an even worse WWIII :(

WW3? Oh you innocent and sheltered summer child.

The first war to meet the criteria of a World War (one involving all or the vast majority of the world's major powers in a given era) was King William's War, waged from 1689 to 1697. Since then, we've had...

Queen Anne's War, 1702-1713

King George's War, 1744-1748

French and Indian War/Seven Years' War, 1754-1763

American Revolution, 1775-1783

French Revolution, 1798- 1800

Napoleonic Wars (including the War of 1812), 1812-1814

The Great War ("World War I"), 1914-1918

Hitler's War/Pacific War ("World War II"), 1933-1945

The Global War on Terror, 2001-Ongoing

So we're kind of up to the tenth such conflict at this point, but yeah. I take your point. This one doesn't look like we're headed anywhere pretty at this rate. I mean, we're in too deep. If we pull out now, ISIS will claim they won, Vietnam style (and they'd be sort of right), and they'll be free to do whatever they want to innocents pretty much wherever and whenever they like with minimal consequences. But if we keep going, it simply fuels ISIS and similar groups who use it an an example of American imperialism (and they'd be sort of right) and they'll continue to use propaganda to swell their ranks as much as possible.

I mean, the only solution I see at this junction is a massive shock-and-awe campaign Hiroshima/Nagasaki style followed by long-term Imperial Romanesque occupation, but given who we're fighting, even that may not produce the desired result and may in fact only make things worse. This is a textbook Catch-22 scenario.

You know what's it's like, TBA. The world is fucked up, but it always has been, only now we make more noise about it.

It all inspires me to finally write an allegoric novella / play that plays on the complicated nature of war and conflict. I finally have an idea that would make it interesting.

THE RESIDUAL ECHOES OF 2016 STRIKE AGAIN

Miguel Ferrer, 61 - Cancer

We're off to a GREAT start of 2017.

And by the looks of it, George H.W. Bush isn't too far long for this world either.
Laura and Gabriel arrive in the deepest cave of the castle and... they find IGA.

I think this will be a great send-off for 2017.
