Title: Zara's "sherrif tee" removed for resemblance to Holocaust garbs
Post by: Mooning Freddy on August 27, 2014, 02:40:49 AM
Zara removes children's "sherrif tee" after complaints that the shirt resembles garbs which Jews were forced to wear in concentration camps much more than anything having to do with the Wild West.

And the question left to be asked: what the hell was the designer thinking?

The internet has created various memes about it:

That shirt doesn't look classic western to me. And besides the sheriff star is not a part of the shirt itself but something you wear on the shirt. When I was a kid that's what we got. Nothing like what's been shown above.

Unfortunate but I doubt this was on purpose. It's probably just a case of designers not thinking. Like when Adidas was all set to market these overpriced shoes to hip "urban" (read: black) youth in America.

Yeah are you seeing the possible problems with the historical connotations of young black American men in chains yet?

Turns out it was an incredibly misguided attempt to "pay tribute" to this 1980s toy:

(I still have one of these btw. Unfortunately most of his chain is broken.)

Like, seriously? How the hell did that EVER get all the way to production without someone questioning it?

Seriously, who would know this until someone bought it up? Talk about obscure.

I wasn't really paying attention to whatever is going on in this thread.  I wasn't even going to reply.  I was just sort of scrolling through responses to see what wacky reaction images people were using and

I think I just had a mini version of that monster while a neighhood kid or actually two brothers had that regular size big one.
