Title: Is there any Vampires left at all?
Post by: Zydalc on October 21, 2018, 12:50:32 PM
In the main Castlevania timeline which Aria and Dawn of Sorrow being the "last" few games in the timeline, is there any vampires left at all by this point or is Alucard the only one left even though he's a Dhampyr?

And yes this applies to the Netflix series too.

In a sequel novel to Dawn of Sorrow, Olrox was the antagonist.  It’s not canon, but considering the sorrow series makes references to Olrox (in clothing items), it wouldn’t be surprising if he was still around.

Just a little comment about Olrox because this comment reminded me of some thinking I've done on him.

I think that the biggest reason that Olrox is widely pegged as being a sort of unofficial heir to Dracula's throne is because out of all the vampires we've seen in the series who are not Dracula, Olrox's abilities  --both in nature and in scope-- veer closest to Dracula's. He's very much a Dracula-lite. Furthermore, once upon a time he was a close enough ally of Dracula to be given partial command over Dracula's forces and maintained his own part of the Castle.

Also he just looks cool.

Wouldn't surprise me if he was still around, but who knows, maybe Alucard killed him for good in Symphony.

Also, just because there's no more Dark Lord doesn't mean that the Darkness stopped coming -- it's just no longer centralized under a Biggest Bad. There will always be monsters as long as mankind has darkness inside them.

Vampires will continue to rise.

Rest assured, the Belmont family will forever be gainfully employed.

Besides, Dracula became a vampire by his own volition, so there's no reason that other people couldn't also become vampires as well. Dracula was just the best at it because he had spent his formative years studying the dark arts rather than just preying upon villagers in the valleys like the loser vampires did. The series never really even goes into how the other vampires came about, and they have been around long before Dracula.

It’s not canon
It is.

I second the canonity of Ricordanza.
IGA endorsed it and allowed the author to take some liberties on his own characters, but the characterization of the existing game characters are same as the games.

Did Iga endorse other things, like the audio drama and cod manga?  Are those canon too?

I believe he did. But personally it doesn't really help us as they were released in Japan only, leaving us in the west to either import or guess.

There's no indication either way that vampires are extinct.  I'm going to go out on a limb and say that they are not because we've seen some in the series that have been very well hidden.  Joachim was imprisoned by another vampire in a place where most humans wouldn't bother to go, and while he was defeated, there may be other vampires imprisoned or sealed away in places that haven't been discovered.  More importantly, Jiang Shi from Order of Ecclesia was in the middle of nowhere and Shanoa didn't actually kill it; she just stopped him with a seal tag.

Yes. Both of them has IGA somewhere on the credits.
Plus the plot of both is not the same as the games but improves on the understanding of the world and its characters (though, there are still questions, especially the manga which supposedly should have more volumes)
