Title: Castlevania and the genre's popularity
Post by: DraculaFan1981 on October 21, 2020, 02:43:05 PM
The Netflix series is a smash hit, Richter and Simon's inclusion is Smash was met with acclaim, the collections sold well, Bloodstained sold over a million and surpassed Lords of Shadow and Curse of the moon sold six hundred thousand. Why has Konami not capitalised on this yet? They make games again but instead of Castlevania, Metal Gear or Silent Hill, they make an Eden's Zero game literally no one asked for. Are they braindead or greedy? A new Castlevania game sounds like a no-brainer at this point, or at least an english release of Moonlight Rhapsody, hell, they can port Moonlight Rhapsody on consoles and it will be like Genshin Impact.

Did Bloodstained sell better than LoS?  I would be happy to hear it, but sounds kind of hard to believe...

Lords of Shadow's lifetime sales were about 1 million and Bloodstained reached those sales plus all the Kickstarter backers.

Konami is in their own world and I don't know if their head can be pulled out of the clouds anytime soon.  The logical way forward would be for them to license out the IPs to third party developers and still get revenue from the games.  That's the rumor about Silent Hill for PS5, at least, but who knows at this point.

With all this spotlight on castlevania konami could have done a lot of amazing stuff, seeing the succes of the first and second seasons they could have alredy started a real new game project to release with the newer season, and use the series, smash and the collection as a wave to launch a new amazing series of games.
But that's a logical thing to do, so konami is not going for it.
There's no hope for thing like this until konami leadership dosen't change.
