I'd agree with you a LOT on this, Gaawa.  The big character change I didn't understand at all, it felt cliche, and rather distasteful to me, souring the bits I did love.  I also agree that it felt off off the pacing in many ways.  I wanted more of some characters doing stuff and then bam!  Big chunk of stuff that could have been taken time over and done more with got skipped through too quickly.  I hated Godbrand as a character, he ate up screen time from characters I'd have rather have spent more time with.

I feel I should add that while I thought the final fight was poorly done, how it ended was pretty great.  I'd always wanted Dracula to stop for a sec and think about wtf he was doing to his son and they did a really good job of that.  Kudos to the voice actors of Dracula and Alucard, btw.... also it should come as no surprise to anyone that I feel that way considering my avatar/sig, lol.

Also Godbrand sucks.

I was incredibly disapounted in the last two episodes.  Everything leading up to them was exceptional, but that ending was such a terrible let down and just took the story and threw it out the window.   I don't see how it could possibly go in a similar direction to how it's supposed to.  Big changes with big implications on the world.  I am let down.

A million times this.  It seems like they got rushed through the end, like maybe they had planned to finish it off in another season but for some reason had to wrap it up early.

Dracula going to hell changes him and brings other dark beings like Death with him.

But it looks like it will likely be a very different take on Curse of Darkness

There are lots of neat references throughout this season.  Dracula's silhouette and posture in some scenes was probably the most standoutish thing alongside the portrait of Leon.  If you pause whenever the camera is showing shelves or pages in the Belmont vault, you'll see a ton of little references, with the most obvious ones being potions/sub-weapons but there are also more obscure things, like the winged boots.  Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the smoke Dracula disperses into might have been a reference to his second form from CV3? Perhaps there's a more fitting comparison to it elsewhere in the series, though.  There are quite a few ability references as well, though not nearly as many as there could have  been.  I thought the music overall was improved from Season 1, and the sound was better balanced; I didn't have nearly as hard a time making out what people were saying this time around.

The first time I watched S2, I got a weird feeling, and the second time confirmed it.  I honestly do not understand why show Isaac wasn't simply Death instead.  He plays the right-hand man; he should have been Death in disguise, not Isaac, and he should have thwarted Carmilla, but Hector would have escaped.  Isaac's ability to forge devils barely plays any role at all in the show, so just change him to Death in disguise and almost nothing needs to be tweaked, then put Isaac back in the story and give him the new backstory along with his sister.  Alternatively, he could have been Shaft.  This would have fixed a lot of narrative problems I had with the season.  Carmilla had way too much work out in her favor.

There are some scenes that are just completely worthless; most of them are Godbrand-related like the stupid dream sequence, but I also thought the flashback where Dracula was thinking about how much he used to enjoy killing people was a waste of time that could have been spent on other things.

Sypha's dialogue in the final episode was not very good, and I disliked the attempt to make it out as though Trevor had undergone massive amounts of development because he really, really didn't.

Leaving Alucard alone in Castlevania was a really crappy thing for both Sypha/Trevor and the writers to do, particularly considering that they made him younger than he looks.  I'm very confused as to why they didn't just have Castlevania disappear and have Alucard sleep in the Belmont Vault or Gresit.  Why did they insist on deviating so significantly from canon with these two points? It's a terrible decision that's going to negatively impact any future content.

As an aside, I really do think it's a shame that they didn't do anything with Grant, and that so many of the enemies were just... there.

I wish Hector had gone to Castlevania when he was a child like in the video game canon instead of knowing Dracula only recently.

I would have liked to have seen how Alucard escaped Castlevania and got to Gresit.

The scene where we see Lisa being taken away was poorly executed.

Upon a second watch, I'm even more bothered by the lack of spellcasting from Dracula, the lack of innocent devils and preferred weapons from Isaac (especially Abel), the lack of spells/familiars/bat form/mist form from Alucard, the lack of lightning spells from Sypha, and the lack of Belmont sub-weapons/holy power from Trevor.

Hector was perfectly capable of kicking ass in the video game, so why is he so pathetic compared to Isaac when it comes to combat.  He doesn't even put up a fight against Carmilla.  I suspect this was due to time constraints but that was caused by them wasting too much time on less important scenes.  Worse still, Hector already knows that Carmilla cannot be trusted by the time they're at the water's edge; why didn't he push the b**** in?  He didn't fight back at all and it felt ridiculous because we know he's killed people before, so why would he not defend himself against something far more hostile than mere humans?  I get that we were supposed to feel bad for poor naive babby Hector but it just doesn't line up with his track record very well.  I guess it does make his video game counterpart look that much more competent, at least, lol.

I like the snarky dialogue.  I think that the character dialogue could have done a bit more to individualize the characters, though; some of it was a bit homogeneous.

What's wrong with calling the Belmont whip the "Vampire Killer"? >_>

Oh, an observation.  Trevor says he was named after someone who traveled with Leon, supposedly named "Trefor."  What if this is actually a muddled up reference to Sara Trantoul, and Trevor is actually roughly named after her, lol?

I know this probably makes it sound like I hated it but I don't; I quite enjoyed it, all things considered.  It could have been much better, but what we got was still decent and there are some sequences that are outright excellent.  I suspect that, just like with the first season, many of my issues with S2 come from time constraints, both due to run time and due to wasting screen time on superfluous stuff that no one cares about.

I have a lot of thoughts going through my head, so I won't write them all down at once. I'll start with the positives:

• I liked it whenever there was a little worldbuilding regarding magic, like Sypha knowing several esoteric languages. It's a more appropriate way to enrich a fantasy setting than having a guy giving a completely pointless rant about someone fucking his goat, for example. 
• The hidden library beneath the Belmont mansion. This is fun worldbuilding because it touches upon details about the world that the games themselves never got around to showing.   
• Funnily enough, a lot of people have a problem with this: the fact that the story deviates from canon near the end. I'm not a really big fan of the series' take on Castlevania but I'm glad that happend. Sticking to the timeline, even in a broad strokes way, would have been incredibly boring. The show already ignored canon whenever it felt like anyway, so might as well do something interesting by being different.

Overall impression is that I like how it is expanded Dracula's curse. There is A LOT of world building in the show which is great but the downside to stories like this is that it drags on and feels like a filler at times. I suppose I can talk about the things I did like, as well. I don't really have many negatives.

- Alright, I like how they didn't simply show Dracula's domain to be a one man Army at sorts. There were politics involved to start an uproar to overthrow Dracula to some degree. That felt pretty nice. But the downside is because of that, they made Dracula seem a little more lethargic and overly melancholic because of this. This is some ways was a hit or miss with me as he sulked way more in the show when he should have. I wanted to see Dracula in The Move and giving out orders to drive or exterminate humans, but instead he turned out to be more apathetic which didn't feel right for me.

- Fight scenes were great. When they approach Dracula's Castle and Bloody Tears began to play, I was like... Holy Shit. That was one of the most cake scenes in the entire season. I wish there was more or that but one thing I'm beginning to see this series is more as an Animated Drama than an Animated Action because of The Heavy Plot and world building. And when Dracula was doing his Dark Orbs, I heard a little bit of that Classic Castlevania Dracula Fight. Cake indeed!

- I have to say that I wanted to see Trevor taking up more of a lead to destroy Dracula himself and Alucard and Sypha being more of an aid but I suppose in some ways it was more Poetic to do a Father and Son doing the battle and that scene where Dracula realizes what he was doing when he entered Alucard's room. It was unexpected and it was emotional. Especially in The End when Alucard sits in the ruins of his Father's Throne and sees the phantom of his youth and his mother through his father's eyes. I KNEW it was gonna build up to Alucard to break down and feel regretful as he viewed things from his Father's perspective.

I love that they added Malphas. That was amazing but who was the blindfolded spear demon? The Monster designs were a little generic and I wish Camilla had more of her classic sex appeal to her but either ways, she looked great and seductive. I enjoyed the many different generals in Count Dracula's Army where he had travelled the world gathered Vampire Generals from around the world. That was a cool concept. Shout out to the Indian Vampire, I wish they expanded upon her but Jiang Shi was pretty cool.

- Sooooo... Dracula's Curse is over and now we're moving towards Castlevania Curse of Darkness? You know what?... I don't even mind that.

My overall gripe is that I expected more but either ways, I'm glad. They still did Castlevania some justice and I'll give them props for it.

I was really worried that it wouldn't  live up to the last season but bloody hell, it just blew me away. All of it, the Belmont family Lore they did that really well. And masterfully expanded on the belmonts, (I knew there was Celtic blood in there somewhere)  I was shocked to see how much detail whent in to that liberty part.
The parts with the generals where exciting, and I love what they did with hector anda isaac. and the The writing  was phenomenal, the
characterisation perpetually  between the main 3 was really just so full of life. And those last two eps  where soo sad and well made really thrilling. And the Use of Game Music Ohhhh that rocked.

and for someone whose not Alucard's biggest fan, this show made me feel so deep for him.
I felt like they really him to life and gave him layers, and that something I feel he has lacked in the games, I felt like you really got to know him. But then its the same for both sypha and Trevor.  As really the  belnades have very little spot light in the games its great to see her given more to do and again given layers.

And I love how they had Trevor get a new sword, it remined me of not only Leon's But also the one seen in Hunted castle. Very well done.

And that Whip Action Ohhhh hits the spot and then some.

As for there being two whips, we all know that its a ref to the fact that you can upgrade the whip in game, and how in Simons quest you could BUY different whips.

But I have this theory

I think that the morning star WAS the vampire Killer and i think that The whip Trevor had was a training whip, as we saw in  belmont's revenge theres 2 whips.
Now it could be that the count armed soleiyu with his own whip, just to Piss the belmonts off and the fact that his family's book is where the knowledge of how to make the  whip of alchemy came from, it would make sense.


But it would also make sense IF the Belmont's had another whip to give to there young to train them as they need to start at a young age. And it needed to be powerful, so they could hunt with it, as its the sort of job you HAVE to go out and do. As you can read all the books do all the drills, but it will never prepare you for the real thing.

so if both father and son go out  on the hunt  the dad has the Vampire Killer and son has the holy whip or undead killer.
 
Plus as Leon Belmont Seems to be one of the most Important members and that they focus on him so much in the Belmont's past it makes sense that
got his whip from gandolfi,

and Trevor's whip has the  has the Belmont  Family crest on it.
and that makes it looks like it was made for the belmonts. And  as the morning star  does not have any family crest on it show that it was not made for them, thus suggesting they got it off Gandolfi.

And as Trevor had to get to safety when he was young, And this could mean two things one, he was too young to use the
Morning star as  Trevor himself said that he never played with it.

Or two it could be that he was just about to Inherent it but they where forced to leave .

But seeing  as he was only 12 or 13 really is no age to give something so power to a boy, and I think one would need so much more training before he could use it.

And when they forced them to leave,  he just grabbed what he could so it would not be stolen or destroyed, thus his training whip, and 12 or 13 really does match the right age to be using such a thing and never having being given the title Vampire Hunter.


And there is a HUGE power difference between the morning star and Trevor's Whip.
Also I noticed  when the morning star  lands a hit, it  make a cross shape in the flames. very similar to the fully powered Vampire Killer As seen in PoR,  more proof  to me that the Morning star is the Vampire Killer.

however all this is just what i think, as this is its own universe there are differences in the story, soo this could be all wrong.
all and all  I Loved it. And as  Cv Fan i feel that it really lived up to its name, Looking forwerd  to season 3
